It Really Doesn't Feel Like Capcom Want To Expand Dead Rising Beyond Its Original Fanbase.

The first thing we thought when Capcom announced a second piece of XBOX 360 exclusive Dead Rising 2 content during TGS last week was, "Why?" Not why are they releasing the exclusive content, but why are they bothering to put the full game on the PlayStation 3 in the first place? They may aswell have kept the franchise an exclusive, as they don't seem fully committed to the PS3 at all.

Sony fans are understandably felling pretty alienated now.

But Capcom denies any wrong-doing. Co-producer Shinsaku Ohara told Eurogamer:

“I think [Keiji] Inafune said that we’re sorry that it seems like you’re getting a little bit less of the Dead Rising 2 universe, but you’ll still be able to enjoy the full game,” he said.

“You’ll just miss a little bit of extra. We haven’t completely alienated PS3 gamers because Dead Rising 2 is a standalone boxed product.

“At the beginning we didn’t know that this new IP would be a success, but the fans on the console really assisted in making it into one.

“So it’s like a present, something that we gave back to the original Dead Rising fans.”

The original Dead Rising fans don't exactly need a welcome into the franchise though do they? It's PlayStation 3 owners who need selling on the franchise, not the current fanbase. We understand why Capcom would want to give back to the fans; but at this point we're not sure why they're bothering trying to carry it across to PS3. We're fine with them trying to reward their fans. Just don't try and extract money from a new market if you don't care about making them feel welcome.
