It was only a matter of time before a Dragon Ball Z title was announced for Sony's next-gen system, and for fans of Akira Toriyama's incredibly popular creation, today is the day that you can start gathering your spirit energy for the franchise's PlayStation 4 debut.
With just a single scan from this month's V Jump magazine to go on, there's not much to get excited about just yet, but the news that Goku and the gang are making the generational jump is promising — especially when other Japanese properties seem content to stick around on the PlayStation 3.
So what does the scan tell us? Well, the title's in production for both of the aforementioned consoles, but at this point in time, it doesn't even have an official name. You can also make out the series' protagonist taking on Vegeta, Frieza, and Cell, but the inclusion of those pivotal brawls should surprise no one. According to translators, there's mention of a high tech, futuristic city that houses a time machine, as well as the Hyperbolic Time Chamber — a location where you can spend years training while only a few hours pass outside.
What kind of Dragon Ball fighter would you like to see on PS4? Were you a fan of Battle of Z's team-based clashes, or would you prefer a return to the times of the brilliant Budokai 3? Tell us your scouter readings in the comments section below.

OH HELL YEAH!, as a huge Dragon Ball fan I always get excited when a new game is announced
also time travel, and if you look at the pic of Goku fighting Vegeta you can see a brand new character watching the fight, is this game going to be a single player Dragon Ball fighting game based on the DBOnline story?????
Desperately hoping for a return to Budokai's way of doing things, but I don't think we're going to get it.
@FullbringIchigo He's wearing a scouter and a Capsule Corp. jacket, so my first guess is that he's some sort of player character. Maybe you can go back in time to specific events and fight yourself?
That's actually not a bad concept...
I tried the demo on vita and really didn't like the controls at all. Hopefully I'll find the ps4 version more comfortable as I'd like to give it a go.
I'm a sucker for any DBZ game so will be buying this no matter what. Hopefully they allow you to go from SSJ1 to SSJ2 during the fight instead of choosing that form of the character
@SimonAdebisi that is a different game by the way that was Battle of Z, this one is a brand new game
This could be very bad or very good.
@ShogunRok i wish it would go back to Budokais style aswell. Powerup mid fight and going super sayian is way more fun than just picking a different super level and staying that the whole match :/. Also miss all he epic super move animations from Budokai
I would like a DBZ RPG like attack of sayans that I played on the DS some years ago.
@FullbringIchigo all the better then, hopefully they'll start providing more demos on the ps4
@SimonAdebisi yeah more demos would be nice
I hope it plays like Budokai Tenkaichi 3 instead of Battle of Z which was terrible.
@billy991 All Dragon Ball Budokai games and Tenkaichi allowed that; has that been removed?
@Cloud7794 there wasn't any in-game transformations in Battle of Z, I think that's what he's going on about
Never played a dbz game. The games as good as the hype and should I give them a go?
@Mrskinner If you're going to give one a go, I'd recommend Budokai 3. It's a more traditional fighting game than a lot of the more recent instalments, but I think it's easily the best. It's part of an HD collection on PS3, which also comes with the first Budokai. Unfortunately, the first one is a bit rubbish.
@ShogunRok @Mrskinne also try Burst Limit and if you have a PSP Shin Budokai 2
@ShogunRok Budokai 2 is pretty great aswell
graphically looks amazing.
also, i can make out a SSJG future trunks on the bottom right corner.
The thing about DBZ games is they are a crap shoot as far as gameplay goes, could be amazing or absolute garbage.
I won't be excited till i see it in action. I loved Burst Limit, hopefully it's something like that.
Please Let it be Budakai Tenkaiechi 4.
@drumsandperc92 Do you mean that Trunks is the character with the red hair and the Capsule Corp. jacket? That could mean that it's not a one v one fighter if so.
I'm afraid I don't recognise him because I've only read the manga.
@Punished_Boss Agreed
Future Trunks hair is purple tho, or gold when he goes SSJ. Never seen him were a cape/scouter either
@drumsandperc92 I don't think that's Trunks for one he has no need for a scouter plus his hair is the wrong style
no I think that's either a OC or a custom character, I'm hoping for custom I would love a proper create a character mode in a DBZ game
@ShogunRok no one looking like that ever showed up in the Anime either not the original DBZ any of the movies or Kai
@ShogunRok oh, true. only took a quick glance, you're definitely right it's probably a custom or a new character to explain some weird storyline (i.e. the Dragonball MMO)
I hope it lets you use ultimate attacks that completely destroy the landscape and you continue to fight on it. So awesome is the older games
@SuperSilverback yeah I missed that in Battle of Z but I must admit area destruction was one of the things Ultimate Tenkaichi got down to a tee
budokai 3 is the best game of dbz please make the next game based in the budokai 3
I think it would be cool for them to make the story mode like Dragon Ball Z Sagas, but have the gameplay mechanics of Ultimate Tenkaichi. A little character creation of every race would be awesome. I'm a sucker for the character creations. Either way I'll buy it ONLY if they take out the GODDAMN PICKING A TRANSFORMATION PART INSTEAD OF JUST TRANSFORMING IN GAME!! hint hint
