The modern day portions of the Assassin's Creed series are divisive to say the least. Surely, a lot of the franchise's appeal comes from the fact that you can explore interesting periods from the past, and more often than not, we'd argue that the present day segments do little more than pull you out of the fun.
While it's true that the games have gradually stepped away from the modern day aspects of the series, it sounds as though the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie won't following suit. In an interview with IGN, producer Pat Crowley estimates that the film takes place "65 per cent in the present and 35 per cent in the past".
It comes as no huge surprise, we suppose. Judging from the film's first trailer, it's clear that the movie is going to play up the present day setting in order to flesh things out, but let's be honest - we just want to see hooded freedom fighters getting stabby on the big screen. Alas, it looks like the Animus and obviously dodgy corporations are going to hog most of the movie's runtime.
Does this sound like a good idea to you? What do you want from an Assassin's Creed movie, anyway? Provide some feedback in the comments section below.

Do they mean present day or near future?? hopefully it's not set in the age of apps.
Liked the trailer but this news has just put me off.I love the games and I don't mind the modern day parts of the game mainly because I know they won't last long. But I was expecting about twenty mins/half an hour at most in modern day for the film..
Ah well I'll wait for reviews...(just like I did for Batman V Superman and then ignored them..)
I want the movie to play like the game. The best example I can give is the Silent Hill movie when you watched the movie it felt you were the charcter playing the game.
"the present day segments do little more than pull you out of the fun"
Totally, utterly, 155% agree...
I think the present day segments are series-defining and necessary.
Makes sense to me, as this is a movie, not a game, you are watching it, not playing it. By limiting the historical work it can be used strictly as action sequences, they probably won't take much time explaining what is going on in the past, and this way thy can focus the narrative on the current day story, which is more interesting but less prone to outbursts of daring do and violence.
The real story will be the modern day story, the past is just there for excitement and breaks in the talking, basically to keep people from falling asleep.
And besides, they already made the movie in the past, PoP:SoT.
Ok....RIP
@dryrain I'm looking forward to watching silent hill on VR also stuff like REC and The Ring
@Neolit deleted scenes on the blue ray will include hundreds of hours collecting paper clips, chasing shredded documents and rooftop smoking.
It depends on if the 'modern day' portion is like the 'Desmond' portions OR if its just a modern setting for the Assassin.
If, for example, the first part of the modern section is 'Desmond' and the Animus (scene setting and discovery of heritage), the middle section, the historic AC but the rest is Desmond as an Assassin in modern times, I could cope with that but I would not be excited if ALL the modern setting was just the modern day setting parts of the games!
How many percent will be DLC?
As long as the movie is good, I like that a large portion of it is in the modern time because that help set up the world, and sequels can spend less time in setup, and more time getting stabby.
Wasn't expecting anything from this film anyway, and now... Oh dear.
Fassbender is a good actor but I think I'll wait for the reviews first since the AC series has never appealed to me.
