There's really not much to say in what was comfortably one of the slowest weeks for the Japanese games industry in some time. A steady supply of Switch stock has helped Nintendo's new hardware to hold strong, but all other systems – the PlayStation 4 Pro excluded – saw their sales numbers decline this week.
LEGO Worlds was the biggest new release with just over 11k copies sold, which perhaps tells you everything you need to know about this week. In other news, Horizon: Zero Dawn is closing in on 200k units sold, which Sony must see as a rip-roaring success given the game's Western leanings. All of the sales numbers are below.

Watch the Switch sales once Splatoon 2 launches.
Zelda sales are not so fantastic 354K is thought Zelda was bigger in Japan?
@Flaming_Kaiser I'm sure I'll be corrected, but my understanding is that Zelda has never been that huge in Japan. Having said that, I think those numbers are very respectable, considering you need to add another 100k on for the Wii U version, too.
@Flaming_Kaiser Despite what people think Zelda doesn't sell as well as people think. Each one sells at most 4 million units but some would give you the impression that it sells 10 million plus.
Do you think if Microsoft sell the Scorpio in Japan they might reach the lofty heights of 200 units a week?
@adf86 No.
I know the switch is a bit of an oddity, but at £299 with Lego worlds that's a perfect birthday present price for a new piece of tech for one of your kids.
@adf86 Yup, the best zelda lifetime game sales is zelda twilight princess on gamecube and wii at 8.1M sold. Compared that to uncharted 4 7 month sales at 8.7M, now we can say that uncharted series is more important than zelda series.
Not bad for Sony too, Switch+PS4 is really a win-win combo this gen
@Flaming_Kaiser @get2sammyb those numbers for Zelda surely have to be considered as great, 350k sold to only around 500k potential customers, don't forget there isn't that many Switch's out in the wild
@wiiware technically Ocarina of Time is the best selling at 12 million between the N64 and 3DS plus the unrecorded eshop purchases
@Grawlog If you say so
@carlos82 Oh right, I saw it on stand alone vgchartz zelda chart, not on its main site. Still, I think uncharted 4 lifetime sales will surpass that.
@Grawlog
And yet some still say the PS4 is selling 'well' in Japan, which just shows how far the home console market there has fallen. This is why the Switch has to be somewhat of a hit. If it isn't, I do think the Japanese developers will at some point go mobile exclusive save for a few franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Final Fantasy which at least have a strong enough presence in the West to offset sales issues in Japan and at least as long as Nintendo is around we know we'll get some quality console games from Japan. But I am concerned about what direction third parties will take in the future.
Why don't we get a figure of sale's next to the UK chart? Our sale's aint doin very well either.
@JoeBlogs
The PS4 has sold a mere 4 million units total in Japan. That is not good and if the Switch is pulling in similar numbers after the same time period, that's a pretty bad sign for the Japanese console industry.
@Flaming_Kaiser Zelda has been bigger in Japan, but it has also been on more popular platforms. You need to remember, Switch has been selling less than 3DS or even Wii U in Japan, launch-aligned. The other platform it's on, Wii U, wasn't exactly popular either.
For a fun comparison, count the number of PS4 games in the top 20.
@Gamer83 Uh, the PS4 went past 4.5 million a while ago, and is closing in on 5 million.
@Godsent PS4 + 2DS is the real win-win combo. Have you seen the upcoming games list? Switch has nothing on that!
@Mahe
Well, PS4 is my primary console, I've been saying it has the best lineup for this year. Still credit where it's due. Zelda is the game of the year to this point and if it comes out this year Super Mario Odyssey is one that could make a real run at that title. As far as first-year lineups go, the Switch has a good one.
In regards to sales, even if its at 5 mil now, that's nothing to brag about. People can argue it all they want, the console market there is simply not close to what it once was and in the long run, that's not a good thing for those of us who still do like games such as Yakuza, Resident Evil, NieR... etc. Eventually most, if not all, Japanese companies are going to go all mobile if they're not seeing big enough returns on home consoles.
@Gamer83 Sorry, can't agree about Zelda. It's good, but not great. Mario Switch looks completely boring - pass!
You also need to remember that PS4 was released in Japan just over 3 years ago, in 2014. It's well on its way to reach Wii lifetime sales in Japan. Those sales just won't happen overnight.
