NieR has always been a cult classic on the PlayStation 3, but the fairly recent release of NieR Automata has raised its profile significantly. And to acknowledge that, Square Enix is actually re-printing the original and selling it on its web store in Europe.
As of now, you'll need to join a waiting list, but the title will eventually set you back £24.99 on Sony's last-gen system, which is cheaper than copies are currently selling for on auction websites like eBay. There's no word on a North American reprint just yet, but we'd be surprised if it didn't happen.

I love it when stuff like this happens.
That's great, but I won't deny I would have preferred a remaster. This franchise is just two games and I still can't archive binge it before getting down to Automata? Because the architecture change cut off the whole backwards compatibility trend and Vita isn't selling enough? Then here's all the more hoping for Nier among the Switch ports Square Enix said they were planning. Seems much less likely on Sony's current-gen at this point.
But this cheap fan rant aside, I'm glad they're regaining that much confidence in the series.
I would prefer a remaster honestly. I'm guessing that one will come later on, but Square wanted to capitalize on Automata's success as quickly as possible. Makes sense, a reprint takes far less time (and of course, money) than a remaster after all.
I still have my copy. Even bought the ost on iTunes. Best game music ever.
Didn't people hate this game?
Selling discs for PS3 games in 2017 seems kind of odd, just release it digitally.
@get2sammyb Same here. I've never played it but have seen gameplay videos. I do remember it getting mediocre reviews. I think this time I'll put it on my to get list.
Just remaster the game it will sell great and put in some skins from Nier 2.
@rjejr You'd think with Sammy calling out Squeenix for what he determines to be "dumb decisions" he'd be all over this, yet he thinks it's a good idea. I have to check my metaphysics books, it feels like I've slipped into a parallel universe!
I have a copy and I always considered it one of my most ill advised purchases ever! Funny how things work out...
Sooooooooo...
Any chance for a PS4 version?
And also make it a Steelbook Edition?
C'mon SE... Make it happen! You know you wanna.
They should remake it with platinum gameplay and nier automata engine.
I watched a story synopsis on Youtube recently and the story is utterly mental, which I liked, but I don't think I would personally like the game.
Also, tag line for next time - So NieR yet so far.
Sorry Square, but I sold my PS3 a couple years ago. Soooo remaster yeah?
@rjejr
Agreed. No waiting lists, no stock issues. PS3 store works fine.
@JoeBlogs Sure, and i'm betting there's more people out there thinking it's a good idea that they're still working on improving FFXV, and it gets roasted here at every available opportunity. I was just poking a little fun at Sammy, i'm in no place to say what's a good or bad idea for a company like SE anymore than anyone else here
@JoeBlogs That is true!
Honestly, even though I haven't played either and I still have my PS3 with extensive library of games, I would have thought that it would have gotten the re-released-treatment for the PS4 instead...kind of surprised.
@RedMageLanakyn sammy comes across as a very normal fellow, but he's very odd in his own way.
And w/ Naughty Dog giving a free copy of PS2's Jak & Daxter on PS4 w/ U:LL it just seems even weirder that a company would go back and make more discs for such an old game. Couldn't they just add it to Playstation Now, isn't that for PS3 games on the PS4? And Gamestop probably has old copies laying around.
I'm not opposed to them making discs, people like collecting things, but it seems there are easier ways for people to play the game.
@rjejr Agreed. I know I've seen copies of it at gamestop before. I think I rented it a few years ago as well, probably still at the local video store. Doing a reprint doesn't really seem like it'd be worth it, but they've also made a $200 collector's edition of FF12....
@JoeBlogs I'm pretty sure he'd have me committed if he could.
Maybe they can consider Nier-Gard collection Remaster?
Drakengard 3 was kinda kill me in the performance, i was hoping to be able to play it again smoothly (like, totally smooth) in PS4.
I love their dark humor in the game~
@JoeBlogs
Lucas got enamored with his CGI Toys and decided he could suppress cultural history.
@sinalefa
Reissuing the game is probably cheaper and more profitable then a remaster.
Omg they can't be serious !! It should come to PS4 not PS3 again - many would appreciate it on the PS4 not only because the newly released automata!
the story is awesome.. But the gameplay & control are hit or miss...
Not really fancy a remaster imo...
Thanks for the heads up. After seeing this story I listed mine and sold it for $39 (!) on ebay.
