There's an argument that PREY is flying a little too fancifully under-the-radar – especially seeing as it looks like the new-gen BioShock we've all been twiddling our thumbs waiting for. The best way to rectify that problem is by letting people play the game, however, and thus you can look forward to testing out the opening hour for free on the PlayStation 4 from 27th April.
There are no catches here as far as we can tell: you don't need to pre-order or register for a code on an official website – just download the sampler from the PlayStation Store and have at it. It's really nice to see Bethesda do this, and shows a certain confidence in the final product. Then again, it's the kind of marketing the game desperately needs, because too many are sleeping on it right now.

Good to hear! Prey is one of my most anticipated releases this year. And they have also just released a rather lenghty (3 levels) demo of Dishonored 2.
This would be a much better policy to adopt to all of their games than the one they did last year with review copies.....
@RedMageLanakyn Yep.
Because stopping review copies didn't work for Bethesda or Dishonored 2 lol idiots. That game could have sold a lot better.
Well i am sold on Prey, looks fantastic imo.Arkane are amazing devs,Got Dishonored 1 and 2 but only about halfway through the first one..For people not sure,a Prey taster will win over a lot of customers for the final product.
It's a nice gesture. But worth bearing in mind that as an example the first hour of MGS5 is the best part. So hopefully that's not the case here.
Cool. This game isn't on my radar, but if I like the demo, that might change.
This is great! It was on my one day purchase list but this could bump it up sooner. Hopefully the beginning isn't too slow.
It's sad to say but there are demos and free trials I haven't been downloading b/c I just don't want to deal w/ the size on my mostly full HDD. There was something, I think it might have been a free weekend Xbox One game, that was 52GB. I'm not downloading that much for an hour or weekend of gameplay. I'll do 10 or 12GB, takes about an hour, but anything over a couple of hours, 25GB or larger, I'm just nto going to bother. Game I'll download, but not a demo.
Interesting but I will still wait for reviews. The first hour of the game has already been demoed and it looks good but I want to know more. Would prefer early review copies get released.
@LieutenantFatman I've heard that the first hour of the game also has loads of spoilers which is odd, your theory might be right
@rjejr Well now that external drives are an option (and cheap) the only thing really holding people back from downloading 50GB free weekend demos is a data limit. It's a bit inconvenient, yes, but it's also much cheaper than buying a game you might not like and trading it in for 50% of what you paid for it!
Niceeee hyped for this
I'm glad bethesda finally realize gamer aren't stupid, the only reason doom selling good although there's no day 1 review is because of the name legacy, not every game can receive that much confidence from gamer.
I always though trapping gamer to buy/preorder with only hype is a short term gain, that gamer is becoming more carefull and will less preorder game in the future if the game they bought is bad.
@RedMageLanakyn Well I could download it, I don't have an external HDD or a data limit, but it just seems like a bad use of bandwidth. It's more of a mental block than a physical.
@rjejr Well, i guess just try to keep in mind that you can always delete any games you might not be playing as much and get them later if you're short on space. It's a weird thing to get used to if you haven't been using digital for awhile. I find myself going on downloading sprees, thinking that I'm going to play a game and then rarely touch it!
Keep in mind that you can always start a download before bed, put it in rest mode, and it'll keep going, that way you're not cutting into your bandwidth while everyone's at home on their devices and such.
@RedMageLanakyn "that way you're not cutting into your bandwidth while everyone's at home on their devices and such."
That actually has been a factor in my thinking. If both my kids are streaming Youtube to their PCs and my wife is streaming vids on Facebook, which are probably also YT vids, then that large game download seems to go slower. Like I said, for a game I'll do it, but when it will take hours to download something I can only play for an hour or just over a weekend, well it doesn't make sense to me.
I suppose if it was for something I really wanted to try out I would, but for something I'm not interested in it just doesn't seem worth it. On PS3 I'd download every demo available to try it b/c they all seemed to run about 2-3GB each. When all of those 1 hour trials started coming to PS+, and they were 15-18GB for 1 hour, well after a few of those I stopped.
I have very limited tastes, mostly just 3D platformers and JRPG, but I'll try anything, that I can download in about 15 minutes. Any longer than that seems not worth it.
Every games needs a demo~
nice
@RedMageLanakyn You have datalimits in Amerika that is so sad even in the Netherlands we dont have that. So a big market doen not equal quality. Only have limits on my phone and for €35 not.
@Flaming_Kaiser Yeah it is sad, and thankfully i don't have an ISP that does it. I think most that have a data cap are satellite based, or are based in large metropolitan areas.
I can't help but remember the human head version of prey 2 and get mad, have to be real good to get me over that rectal pain.
