We'd still classify this as a pretty boring instalment of the Japanese sales charts, but at least we've got a few things to write about this time around. First off, the latest Ys game, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, shot straight to the top of the software charts, selling a kind-of-okay-but-actually-pretty-low 27,741 copies on PlayStation 4. It actually sold 43,753 copies when it launched on Vita last year.
Fantastic fighter Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2 also smashed its way into the top five on Sony's console, settling for a meagre 10,609 copies - although it's worth pointing out that Rev 2 is also available as a downloadable expansion. Still, the gorgeous brawler was outsold by Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers on the Nintendo Switch, which is a bloody mockery as far as we're concerned.
Meanwhile, the PS4 itself saw the slightest of sales boosts, hopping to 13,972 units.

Another crap game flies up the charts on Switch. Well with those numbers Capcom wont be pleased, and with any luck they'll drop it by Christmas.
@BLP_Software Capcom won't be happy that a 90's game at almost full retail price got to number 3 in the charts with a small install base?
@FredBiletnikoff Let's hope so. Sooner Switch dies the better.
@BLP_Software If you don't want one, don't buy one. I don't see how it affects your enjoyment of PS4 games.
I'd imagine everyone in Japan would have a PS4 by now hah.
I am SO excited for Ys 8. Cant wait
@BLP_Software Hmm...why do you want Switch to die? It offers gamers some different options other than sitting in front of the TV and this complements PS4 very well
September 12th cant get here soon enough.
@BLP_Software It loves you, too. :^P But when do you serously expect it to "die off" when Wii U was produced for five years despite its sales and Vita has been alive for even longer despite selling even less? And Capcom in particular just saw the initial stock of Monster Hunter XX preorder bundles vanish from the digital shelves in ten seconds flat - doesn't seem like they'll be motivated to drop the Switch anytime soon.
I'm going to be looking at Vita sales every week trying to figure out why everyone who works at PS is so sure Sony will never ever make another handheld.
I'll also be wondering if MS will bother selling Scorpio in Japan. I'm not sure why they bothered w/ X1 in Japan b/c I think X360 was doing those same 100/wk numbers it's entire lifespan. Guess we'll see if Scorpio gets a worldwide release date at E3. Maybe Scorpio will just release in the US and Vita 2 in Japan.
@Rob_230 +1 Another game I'm hyped for
@BLP_Software it's not going anywhere;
Last night amongst 20 people at my wife's birthday meal, me and Diddy snuck a game of Mario Kart in at the end of the table waiting for the starters. This was in a relatively posh restaurant, It was absolutely boss. The waiter wanted a game!
@Wazeddie22 all signs are we are in for a treat I had never played an ys game before memories of celcetta, but fell in love with it. Big decision to make between ps4 and vita version - but portability of vita version will likely edge it, despite ps4 getting extra content.
Promising start for Ys 8. Will the Ys series find a new home on PS4?
@themcnoisy You do know that you've been able to play portable Mario Kart since the Gameboy Advance, right?
I've played Mario Kart 8 enough on Wii U, if I want it portable I'll play MK7 to get a different track selection.
@Rob_230 Yeah Memories Of Celcetta was my first Ys too,I never used the Vita much but luckily I had it when I had to spend some time in hospital a few years ago..started and finished the game before I came out.Didant want visitors just wanted to play the game lol
Will probably get this on PS4 though..not decided yet
