Trophy syncing on the PlayStation 4 has always been pretty fast – especially compared to the PlayStation 3, where we’d honestly often go and make a cup of tea while it did its work – but Sony’s improved it overnight. We’ve just tested it out, and rather than the five to ten second delay that it used to take to sync, your gongs will now be uploaded to the Japanese giant’s servers in a second or less.
In the grand scheme of things, this isn’t a particularly meaningful update, but it’s honestly nice to see the platform holder recognise an area that could be improved – and actually, y’know, enhance it. Are there any other little niggles like this that you reckon the manufacturer could refine? Nitpick in the comments section below.

I want my PS4 to also judge my trophies - like if I play My Name is Mayo a little emoticon just shakes its head, whereas if I get any Dark Souls trophy it starts crying in appreciation.
To be honest, I'd rather the trophy's synced automatically. On Xbox, every time you earn an achievement, its already synced with all online servers. I can check online with trueachievements, my Xbox profile, the Xbox app etc without having to go to my 'achievements' and sync it - assuming my console is 'online' - which it always is, like PS4, when I start up.
As far as Trophies go, that's what I would prefer Sony to do. I find it annoying that I have to go to the 'trophy' tab just to sync my trophies - so that's one area they could improve from my perspective.
I still think the 'Notifications' area has taken a big step back too. I also don't like getting the half screen when I press the PS button to try and join a party or accept a game invite. I end up having to go back to the home page, go to the 'notifications' and try and locate the message. Maybe its just me but that half page thing is more of a pain than a help in my opinion.
@Rudy_Manchego A look of absolute disgust for that Yakuza 0 Trophy that requires you to watch softcore pornography.
Yes!! They should bloomin fix the audio synch on the media player that they broke last update. It's been months now and still broken.
This ^^
@BAMozzy Yeah I hate the notifications screen. I think there is an element of auto-syncing on the PS4, though — it does it while you're in Rest mode, for example, I believe.
Not 100% sure how it works.
It's now noticeably quicker on Vita, too...
I'd love there to be a way to unlock trophies you can no longer earn because the servers are gone etc
It's so frustrating when I go through my list of old games and see games I should have finished and didn't.
Not going to happen though and I guess it my own fault
They need to add a progress tracker for trophies, for instance a trophy that requires you to kill 500 enemies, you should be able to see how many you got/500.I think Xbox has something like it not sure though.
@ShogunRok Ha ha - yes, the exact same look of embarrased disgust if your mum walked in on you.
@Rudy_Manchego @ShogunRok How about the "What Are You Doing?" Trophy for nier automata? I think that's the first trophy I've got for that game
Fast trophy syncing is nice.
@DeathShiver Yeah, I'd love that feature.
@wiiware Ha ha, I had to google that one. For SHAME on you
@B-I-G-DEVIL Massive agree. I tried to go for Platinum on Tomb Raider: Definitive edition last year but there was just no one online so couldn't level up on the MP.
@BAMozzy I wish it auto sync too. I'm glad it will sync faster though.
Still waiting on a facetime/skype feature so I can see my buddies face when I kick his butt In every game we play....
@get2sammyb I never use 'rest' mode unless its late at night and I haven't finished downloading something so I will leave it in rest mode then. I have never noticed my trophies being automatically synced but really think they should be every time you earn a new trophy and you are connected to the internet - regardless of whether you are actually playing online or not. When I start up my console, I am automatically connected to online (unless there is a System Update) so see no reason why trophies can't automatically synch every time a new trophy is acquired.
I haven't really had an issue with the 'sync' speed. at most it takes 10-15secs - with occasional one that may 'stutter' a bit. If it automatically synced every time you earn a trophy or even every time you boot up, it wouldn't be that bad. It seems to take longer if there are quite a few trophies so auto-updating/syncing with every trophy as you earn them shouldn't take more than a second anyway. As I said, Xbox does this and did it through the last gen too so its something I think Sony should be able to do as well...
@ShogunRok yup, that one was super uncomfortable. Genuinely closed the curtains when working on that one. That telephone club side activity was bizarre aswell.
@Rudy_Manchego yes it annoying. I know I could platinum Resistance 2 and I just never got the 10,000 mp kills and the servers have been down for years.
It would be nice if they just unlocked if you had X % and a developer could unlock the trophy for all after servers went down or something
This is good as it was a little pet peeve of mine. Would prefer it to be offline tbh as my system should be able to know I've got a trophy before Sony's online servers, but whatever.
@BAMozzy The PS3 was not designed with trophies in mind, it wasn't until a couple years after the PS3 launched that trophies were introduced. Since the PS3 was never designed with "wiggle room" for internal system use, it made a bunch of features difficult to implement, and some, impossible.
With the PS4, I think they went with the same "sync" concept as the PS3, because thats what 80 million PS3 users are used to (and it still wasn't super fast at syncing).
Now that its been sped up, maybe Sony will implement such an option, but please, please, PLEASE make it an option, not default behavior, because there are many times that I have had to delete an account from the PS3/PS4 to prevent trophies from syncing when someone accidentally loads up a game on the wrong profile. Since we cannot delete trophy entries with more than 0%, and many games either give you a trophy just for starting the game (some at the title screen!) or have such low hanging fruit that its impossible not to get a trophy in a couple minutes of playing, if you are sharing a PS4 with others, especially kids, its very useful to not have it sync automatically.
Notice this morning, nice little update.
@thedevilsjester I know PS3 trophies was an 'after-thought' I have owned Playstations ever since the first and had a 'day 1' 60GB Phat PS3 too so I am well aware of when Trophies arrived.
However that doesn't excuse the PS4. Trophies were well established by then and this could have been built into the Operating System. I see no issue with 'Trophies' that a 'family member' accidentally acquired on your profile. What difference does it make? The way Syncing should work is every time a trophy is earned, its updated automatically to the Sony Servers too. At the very least this should be the standard but IF its too much for you to have a 'trophy' earned by a family member on your account, then maybe Sony should have the option to automatically or manually sync in the System Menu.
If others use your PS4, just make sure that you sign out and/or require a password to sign in - that way no-one can access 'your' personal account. Its a bit drastic having to delete game entries or accounts just because some one earns a trophy in a game you aren't playing....
@BAMozzy It makes a big difference to me. At one point I had nearly 200 games on my trophy list, with about 100 of them being 0% games that I have never played. Sifting through the list of trophies when you have about 100 entries is tedious enough without hundreds of entries from games you have no intention of ever playing. Sony allowing deletion of 0% games was a godsend and cleaned up my list quite a bit. If they allowed deletion of any entries, I would be able to cut probably another 50 games from my list.
Require password login for the account? I am not sure that you understand how tedious that is in comparison. Deleting an account from the PS4, that has all of its saves already synced to the cloud, takes about 5 seconds, and then another 20 seconds to enter my credentials to add the account back. Lets say I do this once a month (more some months, less others), and lose absolutely nothing in the process. Contrast that to entering my credentials every time I log in, which can be up to a dozen times some days. Its a no brainer!
This must have been why I couldn't sync last night. I couldn't notice any speed difference when I synched them this morning though. I'll take another look playing Crash today.
I just wish Sony would fix the error issues that constantly occur when viewing your trophies on PS3 and Vita...
Yesterday I just got errors on my PS3. I am used to it since 9 out of 10 times you get an error but last night it was 11 out of 10 times!
Then I switch to PS4 and it tells me PSN is under maintenance. I hate those error codes that tell you nothing.
The change to the videos list still bugs me. It used to show the final frame of the clip along with the title, now it's just a bunch of last-frames. Since a lot of my videos share the same final frame (for example, a lot of my Dark Souls clips end with 'You Died', funnily enough) I now have to press the Options button and select 'information' to see which is which. First world problems and all that.
@get2sammyb hopefully it is added in the near future
I actually wish they would implement the same system for ps4 along with xbox 1 that was used on x360. (Didnt have to be online to recieve notification that it unlocked, etc.)
@get2sammyb The Notification Tab has become a real Joke it's horrible to be honest , Auto Sync is so needed along with being able to do more things from the Quick menu like checking Trophy requirements without leaving the Tab ( and it Opening a new page to check ) or adding a Trophy Tracker that so needed
@B-I-G-DEVIL You can always hide those games , Trophies earned ,Activity by going to the Privacy setting when pressing the Options button on that said trophies you are on
Keyboard Support for DS4 and Keyboard control.
I know the whole mouse/keyboard vs Controller is unfair thing but I don't want That at all!!! What I want to see is a keyboard alone for games with complex control schemes! I want to be able to bind keyboard keys to controls in games. There are games we will never see because of limited buttons on the controller. Some games we have that are a mess of extra steps because of lack of buttons on the controller.
I am sure Devs would love this also making in game commands much easier on PS4
