It feels like Rainbow Skies has been in the works for an eternity, but it's been a long while since we had any real news regarding the title's development. Fortunately, publisher eastasiasoft has confirmed that the project is progressing well, and it's set to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in 2018.
We first wrote about Rainbow Skies all the way back in 2013. Back then, the game was due to launch in 2014, but it never did. Then, in 2015, we wrote about the title again, this time with it set to release in 2016... But it never did. Now we're in 2017, and the company's promising that 2018 is the year. Let's hope the release window actually sticks this time, eh?
For those out of the loop entirely, Rainbow Skies is a sequel to Rainbow Moon -- a loot heavy turn based RPG that was well received by both critics and fans of the genre.

PS3!?
@get2sammyb I never thought I'd hear that name again...
Nice to see you go over the history. Feels like I've been harassing them forever on Facebook and they keep telling me "this year", since 2015. So I see no reason to think 2018 is actually going to hapoen. Had this been a kickstarter game it would be infamous by now.
I never will understand how a sequel to a game they made can take 4 years longer to release than they initially said it would. I was so looking forward to thus game for years but I really doubt I'll ever bother to play it now. And I can't imagine they'll ever come close to making any money on this after a 5 year development cycle, even if it is just a few guys apparently working on it only every other weekend or something like that.
I know games get delayed, but there's a difference between delaying a game a few months thats taken years to make and delaying a game for an additional 4 years they originally said would only take 2 years to make.

I'm really looking forward to this I know it's taken them a bit longer than expected but it looks like it's almost ready now. Fingers crossed that it comes out next year!
Rainbow Moon is already on PS4 digitally at least.
@Splat Oh yeah, I forgot that it had even released.
Rainbow Moon was brilliant so looking forward to this!

The art style's not very good, is it?
I really enjoy rainbow moon and have been waiting skies for along time. Hope it comes early 2018 for the vita. moon was perfect for on the go gaming. Save anytime outside battles.
@rjejr It's taken longer than expected, but we haven't actually been working on Rainbow Skies for the entire 5 years. Development was halted while we brought Rainbow Moon and Soldner-X 2 to PS Vita. We've done a lot of content preparation during the early time of development, while we've been working on coding & balancing tasks for about 2 years now. Also please bear in mind that this game is made by a team of just 4 core people!
It was a mistake to announce the game so early and we've learned our lesson from it. We are still confident that Rainbow Skies will be worth the wait and can't wait to finally release it.
@get2sammyb its a no from me
A 4 year delay, wow. I did play Moon on the Vita, certainly lots of potential there, so fingers crossed the sequel does something interesting. Would definitely get some more points if it gets a decent plot.
@eastasiasoft Thank you for supporting the Vita!
I loved Rainbow Moon so much. Played 110 hours to get the platinum and enjoyed every minute. I just recently realized that the developer is based only about 3 kilometers away from where I lived for a few years. For me Rainbow Skies will be a day one purchase.
@eastasiasoft Very much looking forward to this. Thank you for the Vita support!
Happy to finally play this on my Vita https://www.play-asia.com/rainbow-skies-limited-edition/13/70bnvn?tagid=1415491
