FoxNext Games is the gaming branch of 20th Century Fox, and it's expanding the scope of its game development. The company has acquired developer Cold Iron Studios, and will be putting it to work on an all-new shooter in the Alien universe.
Details on the game itself are virtually non-existent, but it's certainly interesting that Fox is wading into video game waters. Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, the head of FoxNext Games, Aaron Loeb, says that this is a step towards making games "as important a part of Fox's business as movies and television."
He continues: "Games will be the defining entertainment medium of this century, in our view.
"Cold Iron adds a whole dimension of game development and play to our arsenal: long play-session MMOs targeted to PC and console gamers. The kinds of games Cold Iron develops will enable us to deeply explore the worlds of our franchises, starting with the Alien universe."
We're definitely interested to see how this new Alien shooter turns out. Following Alien: Isolation may be a tall order.

Bring it! Alien Isolation was immense, the reason I bought a PS4 in the 1st place, hopefully whatever they're working on will just be as good
Awesome. Of course there is nothing to say this will be anything like Isolation, but I love the Alien universe so i'm hyped for more news.
@JoeBlogs You do get some pretty cool offensive weapons in Isolation and ultimately a great defensive tool to use against the Alien as well.
I hope the new game is more action oriented like alien 2 movie compared to alien isolation that's like alien 1. Maybe like first person dead space.
yeah well there is ONE big question no one asked, "what about Disney?"
now Disney are buying 20th Century Fox (it's still being sorted out right now) they could just do what they did with Lucasarts and shut down FoxNext Games as Disney said they don't believe in needing a in house game developer when they can licence out the series, that's why EA have the Star Wars licence
so it's possible this will never see the light of day, just keep that in mind
Man I'd love an Alien game that is as good as Isolation! I just don't want it to be as slow and boring day in the beginning parts. You play the game for quite a while with nothing happening while the game attempts to scare you... I didn't think it was scary at all, and once you get the flamethrower you can play the game in a tense action centric way. I loved luring the Alien into an area full of enemies and observing the chaos.
I'd love a game that'd focus more on that aspect. Cat and mouse gameplay, with tense and immersive shootouts, and intelligent enemies that can hunt for you, and hide from threats including you.
Isolation would have been perfect if it was paced a little better in the beginning, you could ADS with your guns, and you could pick guns off of the ground. Not having that stuff breaks immersion for me. And in horror games it puts me situations where I'm frustrated instead of frightened.
@JoeBlogs There is a chunk of game before you get anything that provides any decent defence, so stick with it. I love love love the Alien universe, but I doubt I'll ever play Isolation again. A great game, but I felt like I'd visibly aged by the end of it...
Alien Isolation is good but it had the potential to be so much more too. I would hope for more.
Alien the Movie worked incredibly well but the first third or so, its a slow build up, lots of dialogue getting to know the crew, then the next third is dealing with the aftermath of the facehugger attack, getting off the planet, trying to remove it etc. Then the last third is going after what they initially think is a 'small' alien, but suddenly realise its 'big' and stalking them. The whole premise of A:I is pretty much built around the last third o that great movie.
As a game though, I still think Aliens makes a much better reference point. You could still have an 'unkillable' Alien in the form of a Queen. Still have to try and hide etc but you don't know if you are hiding from a queen or a standard that could be killed. You could still have a set number of standard Aliens based on the number of Crew that happened upon the Queen before you arrive. Maybe you also have some 'crew' that could become additional aliens if you don't protect them or make wrong decisions (maybe a bit 'Until Dawn'). Maybe you need to set traps or try to capture facehuggers as you need their Acid to get through certain areas that were welded shut by the former crew and maybe other areas you can't shoot them because the Acid could end up eating through the Hull or Life Support system. Maybe even not use certain weapons - like they couldn't in Aliens in case a stray shot ended up with a thermo-nuclear detonation...
This offers up a lot of replayability too - different action could lead to different results, different crew making it out alive - if at all. Maybe you can rescue some if you are 'quick' - before the facehugger hatches or do you leave that crew member to their fate?
Anyway, lets see if it ends up being a good game first and not another Colonial Marines....
@AhabSpampurse Yeah Isolation was exhausting. I loved it, but I can't play it again. I've tried. It's a long game too. I didn't think it was too long myself, but I can see why some people thought that. It seemed to go on for 4 hours more than I expected. But I played the final section in one go with headphones on and it was really cool.
@KingdomHeartsFan Alien Isolation has a Complete Edition, but it's digital only.
I was lucky and bought it for ~$10 during a recent PSN sale.
Well well,Ideally it would tie up the stupidness from Alien Covenant some..Provided the game gets made..Massive fan of the franchise,Covenant really hurt it though.
@KingdomHeartsFan I'm referring to the PS4 version, which is labeled as Alien Isolation: The Collection.
I know I scored it for $10 recently, in December.
@KingdomHeartsFan You'll own a PS4 eventually, just have to wait for the right sale .
I was lucky and bought my 1TB PS4 Slim for $200 during Black Friday week. I already have 142 PS4 games and still growing!
