Monster Hunter: World finds itself at the top of the Japanese software charts for the second week in a row, shifting a further 346,187 copies -- a number most titles can only dream of achieving, even on their debut. Launching straight into second place is Dragon Ball FighterZ, which released a little later in Japan than it did here in the West. The incredibly good brawler managed to move 68,731 copies on PlayStation 4, which isn't all that impressive. We imagine that its worldwide sales more than make up for it, however.
Meanwhile, the PS4 enjoyed another week at the top of the pile with around 100,000 consoles sold across both the standard model and PS4 Pro. Again, Sony's system has outsold every other platform combined. It'll be interesting to see how long this dominance lasts.

Wow, I didn't expect PS4 sales to hold that strong for a second week. MonHun doing very well, but isn't that disappointing for Dragon Ball?
Monster Hunter is the only game I have played since it came out... I really have no desire to play anything else right now.
@get2sammyb Contrary to popular belief fighting games rarely do really well in Japan, but yeah, it's still a bit disappointing.
That said, Dragon Ball is very much a worldwide property at this point — it's bigger now in the West than it is in Japan, and the global sales obviously reflect that.
DB feels a bit low. Funny because Xenoverse on Switch is there too.
Big numbers for PS4P.
Dang. Dissidia will be out of the charted by next week at this rate.
Another good month for ps4. After seeing monhun xx at 3180 vs monhun world at 346,187, I think it's the proof that monster hunter fan will buy the console/portable that has the best monhun games, it's not important if its on console or on portable.
@NintendoFan4Lyf The problem is nearly all of the games is nintendo own games, this will send the message that nintendo owners only buy nintendo games. I mean even console monster hunter sell way better than portable monster hunter game.
Phoo, MHWORLD nearly at 2million sold. Amazing and deserved.
Boy do I wish the MP had better connection options though. Played at peak hours and it feels so empty.
If Sony did actually pay to keep Monster Hunter World off Nintendo systems as rumors suggest (not something I'm a fan of so I hope Sony didn't do that) it seems it was money well spent.
@TheBraveFencer The online portion of the game is not seamless like destiny or journey, while playing single player I don't understand why I have too choose online option on the quest board, just let me play single player game, I'll use the sos if I need other people, and I'll go to the gathering hall if I want to meet other people.
@Gamer83 It's revenge because nintendo pay capcom to have monhun available only on 3ds and not on vita lol
I'm glad Monster Hunter is doing so well, I love the game. But I need a break from it. If I have to hunt one more Legiana and not get the plate I'm looking for I'm going to snap the disc in half and piss on it.
@Gamer83 um no? it would have sold soo much better on switch. these numbers must be disappointing for capcom (and especially its investors). Monster Hunter is a 5 million franchise in Japan, not 1.6 million.
@Enuo it's not doing well in Japan. 5 million would be doing (very) well, 1.6 million is a joke for MH in Japan.
@Gamer83 one can only pay for exclusivity on their own platform (often by heavily investing in the game itself like Nintendo did with Bayonetta 2). With MHW out on XBO and due on PC, that no longer applies. And paying to exclude a specific single company instead is a conspirological fan fantasy. No kind of profit would be worth the risks of a silly practice that is bound to bring curious anti-trust folks to your door.
This really brings into focus what a massive win it was for Sony's console to score the next MH game. Japan prefers portable systems, but they'll buy anything they need to play a Monster Hunter game (except for an Xbox).
@manu0 Can we leave out the trolling, please?
@manu0 With nearly the same number of audience (70M+), on 3ds the best selling monhun game only ship 4.9M lifetime, while on ps4 it ship 5M only on 3 days. Monhun definitely won't sell better on switch.
You guys just can't help yourselves, can you?
@wiiware um i'm talking specifically and only about japan. MHW has great numbers internationally of course
@ShogunRok there's no trolling. the JAPANESE (not international) numbers aren't good and i'm sure capcom's investors will let them know.
I'm really glad I'm not a slug.....
@manu0 But Capcom's investors won't care when the game's doing 5 million worldwide. I said this last week — slightly lower Japanese sales are irrelevant when Capcom's managed to make the series blow up everywhere else in the world. And that was ultimately Capcom's goal.
@manu0 Compared to others monhun game in japan, I believe monhun world is the 3rd or 4th best selling monhun game, with psp monhun taking the number 1 best selling monhun game. So not the best but not the worst either. Maybe like dq11 on ps4 vs 3ds, portable system version will sold better, but not by much. Japan performance is irrelevant though, worldwide is more important now.
@YummyHappyPills Yes 5M is worlwide, its about 90% ps4 and 10% xbox I believe. But 3ds monhun games sold on the west too, it's still 3 days vs 3 years. For monhun, japan is irrelevant now.
Monster Hunter World is far exceeding all expectations. It's now by far the best selling home console Monster Hunter in Japan, hugely surpassing even Monster Hunter Tri on Wii.
And as mentioned earlier, it's also doing better than Monster Hunter XX, which did well on 2DS and 3DS and flopped on the NS.
@manu0
Unfortunately for your argument companies don't tend to look at only one specific region. Capcom wanted to expand the Western fanbase and it did so. The game is on track to be the best selling MH game worldwide. I doubt the investors are going to be crying themselves to sleep at night about this and Nintendo is still not excluded from getting a new MH in the future. They now have more than one platform to work with for the franchise. It's a win for Capcom.
@YummyHappyPills
Yes, we know, how dare anybody on a PlayStation website be happy about good news for PlayStation. That makes them 'smug brats.' They should just be like the obnoxious trolls who show up here every time and hope for Sony to go out of business so PlayStation is no more.
@YummyHappyPills There are many Nintendo trolls here, i'm even thinking about to sell my Switch because of that.
@manu0 Good thing sales blew up everywhere else. Sales are sales regardless of the region.
@PS_Nation I wouldn't let them bother you. Keep a good system regardless of which fanboys are championing the company.
@YummyHappyPills
I don't see how that's a smug remark. People were constantly saying how this decision was idiotic, it'd send Capcom to the grave, blah blah blah (I was guilty too of questioning their decision) and it turned out the gamble paid off. I believe Sammy was one of the few who didn't go killing Capcom and so he poked a little fun at those of us who did. No big deal, this is a prime example of people getting their feelings hurt too easily and add that on top of the butthurt Nintendo fans have any time something good happens for a PS4 game, and this is what you get.
The problem is people too busy cheering for one company rather than just being happy the industry itself seems to be doing better these days. 2017 was a great year all around, 2018 has started off well. Instead of trolling websites (and the Nintendo and Sony fanboys have been doing that too much at this group of websites since 2013) we should be celebrating the good news and hoping it continues. But people aren't happy unless they're miserable.
All right let's just leave it there and get back on topic.
This game is selling great so maybe people should be happy. Nintendo fanboys are the worst bombing Horizon ratings please go to a Nintendo site.
@wiiware @Grim-Tuesday @Gamer83 @ShogunRok unfortunately your argument about domestic sales not being as relevant when the international sales are good isn't true. the reason being that international profits are very volatile due to currency fluctations. right now with the weak yen it'll be okay for them but it can turn around quickly. i remember that during the wii u era nintendo was only able to report a profit in some quarters because the yen was weak. if the yen would've been strong during these periods they would've had to report losses.
@manu0 Mate just leave you are bumming me out.
@Flaming_Kaiser if you're afraid of the truth just use the ignore button, thanks.
@manu0 They're charging $60 instead of $40 for this one. I think the extra $20 should cover the fluctuations of their currency.
@Grim-Tuesday HD/4K development is also much more expensive than 240p development..so yeah...
Can't believe some Nintendo fans, they have a bunch of great games on the switch (I've played em and they are good), yet they're still salty about this. Good grief just be happy gaming is good.
@manu0 ever heard of hedging ?! your comment history says a lot about you. Maybe need to take a chil pill instead of worrying about profits
@Sanquine i should lol
Looks at thread, looks at comments, looks at door, leaves.
The notion being suggested that Monster Hunter World's sales are weak is nothing but Square Enix talk. The property is now more known in west, if anything.
"unfortunately your argument about domestic sales not being as relevant when the international sales are good isn't true. the reason being that international profits are very volatile due to currency fluctations."

MH deserves the top spot! Amazing game! But I believe this is the last PS4 game that will dominate in Japan this year.
I love this franchise regardless of the platform.
It'll be even better on PC though.
@Constable_What Nah. Graphically yes, but prepare to be invaded by hacker. I heard dark souls, gta v, and pubg is full of hacker that its not worth it to play multiplayer on pc. Which can be problems when multiplayer is integral part of monhun games.
@wiiware I'm obviously being tongue in cheek.
Who cares what platform you play?
@manu0 It's a much better value than what the 3ds offers too. Monster Hunter can finally flex it's muscles with significantly more powerful hardware. Imagine going back to the 3ds after this.
@Grim-Tuesday People play old games all the time. Often playing the new and shiny game makes people want to play the old games too!
@Mahe They don't make new games the old way though. They improve their games.
@Grim-Tuesday Uh, alright? Just saying that people like to play the old games, and sometimes side by side with the new thing.
@Mahe Just to be clear here, I meant that developers do not scale back the scope of their games. Sony's not suddenly going to make a PS2 style game on the PS4.
@Grim-Tuesday Even that's not really true when you consider all the "retro-inspired" games coming out these days, from several different eras.
Then there are all the weaker powered platforms like 2DS/3DS, Vita, mobile, NS, which continue to get games. Even PS4 is not the most powerful system currently, but PS4 will still get huge support from developers.
That is the exception. Retro is done mostly by Indies with small budgets. You're not likely to see a big company suddenly scale back their game.
Expected!
