Monster Hunter: World is top of the Japanese software charts for the fourth week in a row, shifting a further 85,000 copies on PlayStation 4. To date, Capcom's role-playing title has sold around 1.9 million physical copies in Japan. Combine that with the recently revealed digital sales -- totalling around 652,000 -- and Monster Hunter: World is actually closing in on 3 million copies in Japan alone. For a home console release in this day and age, that's crazy.
As for new entries, the Secret of Mana PS4 remake debuted in second place, but only moved a meagre 36,000 copies. Dynasty Warriors 9, meanwhile, dropped like a rock, going from 139,000 sales the week prior to just 21,000.
Over on the hardware side of things, the PS4 continues its reign at the top. Moving another 49,000 units across the standard model and PS4 Pro, Sony's console has been king for six weeks running.

Impresive for a "hone" consolé, nothing can stop the PS4 train. I Guess Sony ain't announcing the ps5 anytime soon.
That's darn really impressive for a four and half years old console. Is it the third week in a row where PS beat the Switch or are we already at the fourth week?
EDIT: Yeah we at the sixth week 😏
Should not have scrolled down to the charts before reading the article itself 😁😛
Am I the only one here who's surprised that 1-2 Switch is still selling Japan?
Also, I'm glad that Dynasty Warriors 9's sales are dropping inmensely. This is what they get for the ruining the Warriors formula the second time.
Sony’s Console is pretty much confirmed to be #1 til Mid March (Kirby)
But the Japanese aren't buying the game... LOL.
Poor Bayonetta, though...I hope it will sell better in the west.
@Feena or don’t worry maybe one day it’ll come to the superior platform
RIP Switch
@Derpie1
Considering Nintendo helps fund these games now I wouldn't be so sure Bayonetta will be on PlayStation and Xbox again any time soon. Maybe 5 or so years down the line, but I wouldn't count on it.
@Derpie1 Your ignorance is both hilarious and sad.
A touch liberal with the rounding up of the MHW numbers aren't we Mr Ramsey . Still, those MHW digital sales make a mockery of any potential analysis we readers try to make from the physical numbers. It was surmised by myself, and others, that sales were quite a % down on 3DS numbers yet they were about par, or maybe better, when both figures were combined.
These charts are getting less relevant by the month, and without digital sales they almost fall victim to being labelled 'fake news'.
@Feena It's just a port so no surprises there.
@EVIL-C I’m trolling
Another good week for PS4. Secret of Mana also has a good opening for a remake.
wow, great numbers all round...Monster Hunter World is the best fun i've had since Horizon Zero Dawn - which is why i'm looking forward to the Aloy costume.
On a side note, I've always wondered whether there is an obscure, random console somewhere in Japan made by a small manufacturer that will/could overtake the xbox in sales? Are there only 9 types of hardware options in Japan?
A-maz-ing.
The land of the Rising Sun loves its PlayStation.
Glad to see a successful release. I LOVE monster hunter. Can't get enough of it. Also, would you guys please include digital sales. Otherwise these sales numbers are nothing less than inaccurate.
@SoulsBourne128 Cant understand how much they messed it up. The game was good they had to upgrade the graphics. Just dail down the popup soldiers make it with a little less soldiers of a higher quality.
@Gamer83 No we wont be getting Bayonetta anymore. I hope we get a oldskool Devil may Cry with the real Dante.
But the question is gonna be if Sony can convert those MH sales into broader sales for the platform. It probably too early to say now; but surprised at how badly Dragon Ball is doing given the huge advertising push here. Nintendo seem to have a totally different strategy - not doing so well month to month but they selling consistently for a longer time.
How many PS4s are even in Japan? 6 million? 7 million? Nearly 3 million is very impressive, and it's probably the game with the highest attach rate per region.
Bayonetta bombed pretty hard in Japan! But I have no idea if the game is popular over there.
Japanese love for monster hunter is scary lol, it's insane how this series sells way better than its portables counterpart.
@SoulsBourne128 Maybe portable audiences in japan is super casual or mostly kids? That's why cartony/platform games sold more than bayonetta. Even monhun sold better on console (ps4) compared to portables (3ds).
@Feena I think it's a mix of more casual audience with japan not caring for full priced port, unless that port is a mario games.
What’s driving the sales of the Vita?
@Flaming_Kaiser
I hope so too.
