PlayStation 4 hardware sales increased year-over-year in 2018 in the UK – despite the console celebrating its fifth birthday in November. Sony’s system was once again the region’s best-seller, despite stronger competition from the Nintendo Switch this time. A whopping 42.2 per cent of physical game sales in Britain were made for the PS4, although this doesn’t include digital data. Retail software sales actually declined 9.7 per cent year-over-year on the Japanese giant’s console, which can likely be attributed to the rise of the PlayStation Store.
It’s yet another impressive result for the PS4, which surely has to start seeing some sort of decline in 2019. To be fair, though, there are still price adjustments that the platform holder could make and the possibility of a smaller hardware revision, so don’t rule out another impressive year just yet. We reckon globally the device should surpass 100 million units at some point over the next 12 months.

The fact that such a successful five year old console is up year-on-year is mental. Don't think even Sony could have predicted the PS4 would do this well this far into its life.
Well done to Sony, the? PS4 is an amazing machine.
To be up in year five is quite impressive. I wonder if the PS4 Pro is helping with that and doing what it was intended to.
I guess they can thank God of War, Spiderman, Red Dead, and many others for console sales increasing. Not bad for a 5 year old box though!
That's really impressive
Kudos for UK, you guys know what’s good.
well, UK also voted for brexit..sooo.....
Very impressive, Sony. The only hard part is finding time to tackle my PS4 Backlog. 😅
Exactly manu0. We Brits know what's good.
Sony has been in just complete domination since PS4 launched.
@PS_Nation reported.
@manu0 Soros’ agent detected!
One of these days I should plug my PS4 back in...
@Link41
Well done PS4. Seems you had all the games for the majority of the year haha
I think some consoles are packed up for 3-4 years and hooked people (like me) are buying new or upgraded console. Also I've bought GTA5 twice, which I didn't expect from myself. Week ago it was on huge discount on PS Store, and I've bought it just for not to bother to eject another disc from the console every time. LOL
An impressive result for a five-year-old console, no doubt. On the one hand surprising because of its age, on the other, not so surprising because I'd argue game wise the console just keeps getting better, especially the last few years. In 2018 it had its best library, and that follows up 2017 which was previously the best 12 months.
@EVIL-C
I hear that, between the PS Plus library I've built up and some unfinished games even going back as far as early 2017, I doubt I'll catch up any time soon on all the games I want to really dig into.
@Gamer83 I just had to add Dragon Quest XI to that Backlog pile, Lolol... 😋
@EVIL-C
Nice. I'll be adding Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite to my back catalog, already picked up Dreamfall Chapters in one of the earlier holiday sales. PSN had some killer deals the last month, which along with Plus just blew up my digital library.
I see a lot of nin fanboys here lol.
Playing on a switch in 2019 lmao now that's mental.
@RogerRoger I feel the same. Oh boy Sony DO NOT double back on PS4 compatibility for the ps5! Got 200+ games man! And ps3, ps2, ps1, psp, vita........ lol 😂👍✌️
@Link41 it’s ok, can’t be playing on your “favorite”system for too long. There are other things to do in life y’know! Then, you’ll beback big time...... as for your stoppage, games? Can’t be, you’re on a PS4........
@Flaming_Kaiser don’t worry, he’ll play his switch till he gets fed up and leaves it for a while. We all get in this slump....
@Hapuc now now play nice. PS4 for home, switch for the outdoors! It can work man! Lol 😂

@Gamer83 Those are good choices. I also surprised myself by getting BFV as it was a mere $30 a month after release, plus there's RE2 this month. Help... 😝
