In the huge information blowout regarding PlayStation 5 today, lead system architect Mark Cerny has affirmed Sony's stance on PSVR, and how it'll come into play when next gen arrives. Essentially, the current PlayStation VR unit will work with PS5.
Although Cerny isn't willing to give up any details about the future of the virtual reality system itself, he says that PSVR will in fact work with Sony's next gen machine. “I won't go into the details of our VR strategy today,” he says, “beyond saying that VR is very important to us and that the current PSVR headset is compatible with the new console.”
This is more or less as we expected, though some will be expecting PSVR 2 at some stage. We're sure the platform holder will be building a better headset behind the scenes, but with PS5 now on the horizon, it makes sense that the current system will be compatible in the meantime.

Fantastic news sounds like playstation have been listening to gamers. But i look forward to a ps5 vr headset more upgraded much like htc vive or beyond.
Id love to see a vr headset with side panels and above and below and straight ahead inside the unit for full immersion so your really there in that world.
Hope that they can do the next PSVR without the wires. That would be awesome.
Now all i need is a price and a date to get saving for!
Awesome news. Maybe PS5 can boost current PSVR games! On another note I hope the VR engineers get to watch ready player one. Gaming gloves, stylish VR headsets/googles!
@Shepherd_Tallon i'm ecstatic right about now but i know that psvr 2 will be on the horizon but this will help with early adaptors to take their library to ps5 and i expect the specs to be better too, this will be amazing.
Hype hype. So made up with this news.
This is great stuff so far. Love PSVR. Love Astrobot. Love Mark Cery.
Really happy to know to know that my PSVR headset will be compatible with PS5 (although curious to know if we'd still need the breakout box??).
BUT if they release a PSVR 2 at the same time as PS5 with a higher resolution screen, I can imagine I will jump on that.
@huyi If you want to upgrade you still have the option to sell your headset so it works on the PS5. So other people with less problems with the specs will still be able to use it sounds great.
@HungryWolf Same here, not buying PSVR until they release a truly wireless headset.
How about #letsnotgodigital
They are literally trying to destroy the physical market as as fast as they can so sales are focused on the digital crap and they get the money directly..
Don't show them support.
Own what you buy, don't let a server and an account which can get easily hijacked or lost own your games.
