Update: In an unprecedented move, Sony has altered PS Plus' July 2019 lineup, replacing the divisive PES 2019: Pro Evolution Soccer with the warmly received Detroit: Become Human. You'll still get excellent arcade racer Horizon Chase Turbo, too.
Here's what the platform holder said on Twitter:
While we had some issues with the plot, we loved Quantic Dream's triple-pronged sci-fi drama. Here's what we said in our review:
Detroit: Become Human is vintage Quantic Dream, delivering a multifaceted choose-your-own-adventure that’s both ambitious and somewhat of an acquired taste. It’s clear that remarkable attention has been poured into the title's vision of the near-future, which makes it harder to suspend disbelief over some of its smaller narrative oversights. The game huffs-and-puffs, but never really brings anything new to its core theme of androids awakening to human emotions – and yet despite its relative familiarity, it’s an impressively replayable interactive story with a frightening number of variables of which there’s nothing else quite like.
There's even better news for disgruntled subscribers: Sony is giving away the Digital Deluxe edition of Detroit: Become Human, which means you'll also receive the PS4 port of Heavy Rain as an added bonus. Here's what we said about the innovative adventure game in our review:
The forecast was never exactly great for Heavy Rain on the PS4. This remains a ground-breaking game, and it's still possible to appreciate the areas where it innovated, but time has not been kind to the title's damp performances and dismal writing. If you're eager to go back to the release that gave life to the current spate of narrative-driven games, then this new-gen port does an admirable job of sprucing up the visuals. But while we don't want to hang this important outing out to dry, you should certainly beware of the inclement weather within.
Original Article: July 2019's PlayStation Plus games lineup has been revealed. As per usual, subscribers are getting two PlayStation 4 titles. For July, it's PES 2019: Pro Evolution Soccer and Horizon Chase Turbo. The latter's a pretty fun racer but, er... We hope you like football!
To be fair, we liked PES 2019: Pro Evolution Soccer a fair amount, awarding it a safe but sturdy 7/10 in our review:
Rather than overhauling the experience, PES 2019: Pro Evolution Soccer continues to refine its gameplay loop with intricate features that fans will come to appreciate in the long term. With no major additions in terms of modes or licences, however, this 2019 edition feels a little light in terms of real talking points. What Pro Evolution Soccer is known for returns, but it’s not stocking many new bells or whistles.
Meanwhile, we recommended Horizon Chase Turbo in our Indie Bin feature:
Horizon Chase Turbo, with its flat shading and scorching synths, will catch the eye of old-school OutRun fans. But while it shares many similarities with Yu Suzuki’s legendary racer, it’s very much its own thing; events are segregated into circuits, where you’ll need to weave in and out of traffic in order to reach the front of the pack. It plays more like PixelJunk Racers than Coast 2 Coast, but its shifting backdrops and primary colours give it a great 90s flair. Rock solid performance and an enormous campaign mean that you’ll be behind the wheel for a while, but the initial novelty may fade before you see everything that the title’s got to offer.
The two PS4 games will be available to download next week, starting from Tuesday the 2nd July.
What do you make of July's PS Plus selection? Good? Bad? Give us an honest opinion in the comments section below.

Shocking once again
Quick, everyone evacuate to the bunker!
Thumbs down this time around....
Uh-oh. (I like Horizon Chase Turbo!)
Looks good to me! Will be downloading both for sure!!
The latter didn't even qualify for a review on this site, says it all really
Pretty good month for me as I don't own either.
Fine with free pes not played the other game but will give it ago but value wise a little poor again especially as new pes is out in a couple of months
I play a lot of pes, and my team is rather good, so good luck to the new players when they go up against teams with 98 Messi and 3 Legends 😂
I'm a huge fan of classic games like Outrun so I'm very excited to play Horizon chase turbo and I don't currently have a football game so I'm more than happy to have the better of the 2 franchise's to play. Good month for me, now back to the excellent Bloodstained
Very happy with Horizon Chase Turbo, but no interest in football. So it's OK ish I guess but doesn't really scream "value for money".
Sony need to rethink the PS Plus value proposition - and fast. Paying more for a reduced offering vs the previous year, especially in the face competition like Game Pass, won't go unpunished by subscribers considering their next renewal.
The only game with "Horizon" in the title that I care to play is one I'm already 40 hours into, so I don't see myself downloading that. Car games aren't my thing.
And there's pretty much nothing that could get me to play a Soccer game.
Terrible, terrible month. And we don't even have Vita games to fall back on.
I'm pretty sure I'll get more playtime out of whatever NES games Nintendo releases next month. And I... generally don't play those very much.
Worst. Month. Ever.
I'll be checking out Horizon Chase Turbo
I dont own either games!
I like Horizon Chase Turbo but then again, I bought it a few months ago for about £8 (I think). PES? Meh. Methinks Sony are taking the pee.
HCT looked alright. No particular interest in PES, but I might give it a go.
Sony obviously don't listen or care hence the rubbish they churn out every month for FREE
i'm from canada, do you think i give a s**t about soccer (football)? we are now a basketball nation! let's go raptors!
Pro Evolution Football*. I couldn't care less about any football game.
I'll probably check Horizon Chase Turbo, but it's not a good month for me.
If I didn't need Plus to play online I would cancel in a heartbeat.
Awful. Truly awful.
That isn't THAT bad, at least I don't have any of them. But yeah, if you don't like soccer then oh boy...but hey I would gladly get Madden and I don't particularly like american eggball (worst sport of the most popular ones).
But at this point I would be happier if they just merged ps plus with ps now.
I only use psplus for discount and cloudsave and bought it only when it’s discounted to $40. If next year the total of my saving from discount is less than $40 I think I’m not going to extend psplus 😕
Now psplus can’t even give me interesting indie, I think I’ve got more interesting indie games on pc free from epicgames (no subs needed) compared to psplus.
The racing game looks fun, and given I haven't played a football game since Sensible Soccer on the Amiga, I might try this (though I fear it's likely too big for me to want to free up space for..).
@QualityGeezer Last month certainly wasn't "rubbish" besides Plus subs still keep going up so why should Sony listen to the minority on game forums?
Have horizon (awesome) and FIFA 17 for my Canadian women soccer fix so nothing for me
Im quite happy with that. Never heard of the racing game but im overdue a new football game (although ive always been a fifa guy).
This month will get hate - particulalry given the US market isnt necesarily going to be delighted about a football game - but im happy.
If sony want to level it out and give us MLB the show in a future month id be quite happy
You don't save those.
Cool, I never did get last year's PES. Back of the net.
I mean...
Not sure what they're thinking any more.
Horizon Chase Turbo is a great game. If you're old enough to remember the original Outrun arcade cab or remember playing the 16-Bit gem Lotus Turbo Challenge then you’ll love this game.
Loos like a good month to me I always wanted to try a PES game instead of FIFA
Can't say I am 'happy' with these. I haven't played a football game since Fifa 09 and not exactly wanting to play one now either. I also have great Racing based games so not interested in Horizon Chase Turbo at all....
Oh well - see if MS's offerings are better for me...
This is actually the worst month ever for me. I'm not bothered about racing but I actively despise football.
Well...at least my backlog isn't gonna get any bigger this month...
I never enjoyed outrun back in the day personally.
Whereas I don't mind the FIFAs on a casual level, Football is a niche like Formula 1 or Basketball.
The appeal is to a select group as opposed to Borderlands or Deus Ex which appeals to a much wider audience.
Not too fussed, I like to see a change up in genres on Plus from time to time, but nothing for me.
As an aside, Sony must realise why they are catching heat surely?
@ShogunRok Erm, isn't it more like Big Arnie in the original Predator movie "GET TO THE CHOPPER!!"
Soccer games don't really do much for me, Horizon Chase Turbo reminds me of the old Lotus Esprit series on the Amiga!
Sony sure seems keen on testing how many bad months they can give begore people start quitting their subs.
Always wanted to try PES (always been a FIFA guy) so thats cool. And the other will get downloaded. I will say as little RL as i get to play anymore im even considering dumping my Plus sub. Which Ive never let lapse since launch
just a reminder that there will be a free-to-play PES version that will probably be sufficient for most players...
@Nyne11Tyme there are free to play versions of PES games...
@deadfred77 I agree ... Sensi was the best! (especially on the Amiga). I'm a sucker for OutRun style arcade racers, even if they're a bit naff. So I'll be giving this a go.
We got a PES game through PS+ a few years ago for the PS3, and other than a quick go at the initial trials, I never bothered with it. I'm probably not going to with this one, either ...
Good month for me, love horizon chase on my phone and was contemplating getting the console version. I don't have a current football game so I am very happy with Pes as well.
The racing game could be fun, might give it a go. Used to enjoy games like Outrun.
Damn. For a second I thought we were getting Madden and Horizon Zero Dawn!
Well, I don’t own either and would never have bought them, so there’s that. Both scored in the upper 70s on Metacritic, so I’ll add them to my library and download them. I have no idea if I’ll ever play either though.
According to some websites the F2P version of PES is actually largely the same as the paid.
Still get access to MyClub and so forth.
So this is a case of Sony literally giving us a free version of an already free game...
Good times 😂
Edit: Konamis own website confirm this
Dont sleep on Horizon chase turbo it aint bad tbh
We like football.. but soccer....eh
This may be the most disappointing month for me yet. I doubt I’ll even add either to my library. Racing games do nothing for me and I’m not a soccer (football for you countries that make more sense than mine) fan. They went from my favorite lineup to least favorite, oh well.
Count de Monet: I’ve come on the most urgent of business. It is said that the people are revolting.
King Louis XVI: You said it! They stink on ice!
@AdamNovice If Plus wasn't mandatory for online play, i don't think subscription numbers would continue to increase.
At this point, I wonder if they are just testing to see how far they can go with lame offerings... at some point they'll remove the 'free' game benefits and people will say "YEAH THEY WERE BAD I NEVER PLAYED THEM ANYWAYS"
Dreadful even more so because of the price increases
@AdamNovice blind support doesn't help the situation, speaking out is what illicites change or that's the idea. And subs only go up due to the neccestity for online play
Unbelievably bad month, Sony really need to merge PS Plus and PS Now or at least start giving us three games a month.
Wow. Actually looked up the news on another site just to make sure this wasn’t some sort of joke. Awful month.
Chuffed with these, get in there.
I wasn't expecting anything yet I'm disappointed.
How is this even possible!?!
The worst thing of all is how Sony try and tell me in my email that I have “unlocked £40 worth of games”.
I almost unsubscribed in protest.
What a garbage month. When you have so many great games on your console this is not how you reward your loyal customers at the end of a generation.
@Trotterwatch says loads about this site to be honest. It’s a cracking game.
makes a change got neither
PES 2019 is a great game, lots of fun. Can play manager mode as a standalone and is worth it just for that.
As I only bought FIFA 19 a few weeks ago in a pre-owned deal at my local Game store, PES 19 probably won't be played. I'll most likely add it to my library but never download it, like many, many other PS Plus games over recent years. The other game might be ok for my young kids but I'm more GT and drive club. For me, adding a PSVR title to the free games each month would make me happy. But I know that I am in the minority when it comes to that option. I'll continue to subscribe but hope the games and their "values" balance out over the 12 months
I've actually wanted Horizon Chase Turbo for a while and straight up didn't know it was even on console! I'm gonna hafta chalk this one up as a win, even if the lineup's been stronger in the past.
People that only buy Plus because of paid multiplayer will always hate the free games with PS Plus.
I've been a FIFA player for some years but have recently become disheartened with the series. Downloaded PES 2019 Lite and liked what I played. Didn't want to shell out for the full version when a new one comes out in a couple of months - so I'll gladly snaffle up this freebie. This is good news for me personally but I do get why it won't fly for others.
Horizon chase turbo is a very good game with a nice retro feeling. Fun to try out Pes 2019 too! Good month!
@manu0 oh wow. Even worse on Sony this month
Rubbish this month then. Better luck next month.
Oh.
Oh dear.
(*Typing more as pushsquare force me to)
Horizon chase turbo is one of the best 'modern retro' games I've played in years (bought it on my switch months ago) ... Pitch perfect handling, brilliant visuals and so much to do - I promise you this is well worth a Download. As for Pes... Utterly meh... #mixedbag
@C0NNERS right for less than the price of 1 new AAA game for a year what is it you expect?
sick to death with PS+ whiners every year each & every one of you gets more than your moneys worth out of the service.
Get to the chopper!
Another meh month. That racing game is good ol' arcade fun though.
They should start doing a similar idea to what amazon did with prime (they had a feature where you could build up credit by not selecting urgent delivery and eventually it would mount up to a fair amount of credit), but in this case they should add credit to your psn wallet if you don't add the plus awful games to your download list. That would appease a lot of the negative responses they receive month in month out.
On the positive side, The Handsome Collection is actually two rather large games. It will easily last me through July (plus having my big backlog)
Neither of these two games are likely to see the light of day on my PS4.
Will probably add Horizon Chase Turbo to my library and then not download it.
I already own FIFA 10 a football game on my PlayStation 3. PES it’s basically the same thing isn’t it so not a lot of point me even adding it to my library.
I admit I was slightly interested in Horizon Chase Turbo but the last football game I played was Sensible Soccer on the Megadrive..
I recognize that Sony can’t give out games that will be to all tastes every month. But I have to say, I am not sure there has ever been a month that has been less my cup of tea since I became a plus member in 2016. Zero interest in either game.
Oh well. I hope others enjoy the games a lot!
@AdamNovice mate, they want the world for less than the cost of 1 new AAA game for a year it makes no sense.
@David187 PS+ subscribers are paying more, whilst the resulting service has been reduced. Not just in terms of games, but also online services which the PS+subscription is supposed to support / protect - the termination of the DriveClub servers for example. What game(s) will be next?
The landscape is also rapidly changing.
Look at the value of a competing service like Game Pass and the PS+ offer looks increasingly out of touch.
Nice for me. I was just in a conversation on how not tried PES is years.
@C0NNERS Game Pass is a different service so comparison is hardly fair.
@Kienda I feel you ; -;
@stupidget personally it reminds me more of Pole Position but I'm old and have rose tinted glasses
I don't have pes 19.soi will definitely download this game on my ps4 pro .vive la France 🇫🇷.mbape.pogba.griezman.la victoire Mon Ami.word up son
The last time I played PES it was called Winning Eleven 7... damn I'm old 👴
Microsoft could win the next generation by making multiplayer free.
@Cycologist yeah good call, I completely forgot about Pole Position (how dare I!!). I'm 46 so my vision is forever rose tinted for those halcyon days
Horizon I own, its OK to quite good in my opinion, its no OutRun. Its more of an update of Lotus Turbo Challege published by Gremlin Graphics on the Amiga. Ive not played a football game since SEGA World Wide Soccer on the Saturn. Ill give it a go!
@C0NNERS what has game pass got to do with anything that is a separate service from Xbox live? that comparison makes no sense & why are we talking about Driveclub? a game Sony kept alive for years when the studio was closed down your doom & gloom attitude is a bit much.
In 4 months of psplus, out of them all I own every game already bar 2 of the games. Out of those 2 - Borderlands I had last Gen.
The overall value has been cut in half, but the subscription is more expensive. They don't appreciate me, then I don't appreciate them. I think it's time to end my subscription.
i don't think i've downloaded a ps+ game for the last 4.5 years. the whole monthly games model just doesn't work for me. if there's anything i am interested in i will usually have bought it long before publishers would put it on plus, and i don't play stuff that doesn't appeal just because it's not going to cost me anything. i think they need to start offering different tiers.
it must be getting more difficult to acquire games rights for ps+. looking at an install base of 100m, even indies are probably thinking even if less people are playing their game, revenue per sale is much higher.
I like PES, always preferred it to fifa since iss days but handing it out a month before new season and version is a slap in the face. Hand it out in January and it's a good month. I'll maybe download it if I know I've got mates coming round for a beer (it's our footie game of choice since pes 3, shevshenko rules!) but realistically for most people, this is grim.
@Cycologist I had to look that up, it's only PES 3 (in Europe), the second best football game ever made after PES 5!! You've got taste 👍
Is it April the 1st? (Checks calendar.) Oh, crap. You guys are serious.
Horrible.. Just the worst!... Man football games suck!.. I'm sooooo disappointed in sonys games these last few months,, except sonic 😂
A sports title and a racing game. Not interested in either so it's back to feverishly working my way through a backlog of 8 years of plus games I would like to play before plus expires. PS Now seems like better value unless there are some good plus discounts in the sales
@David187 I accept it's a different service. Fair point.
However, it is objectively accurate to state that we are paying more for PS+ and getting less than before. I think it's fair to call that out.
Regarding DriveClub - Explain that to DriveClub players who loyally pay their PS+ subscription.
I am that rare oddity - an English man with zero interest in football. Can't say I'm overcome at the thought of what looks like an 80s racing game either, so count me disappointed.
@AdamNovice I accept it's a different service. Fair point.
However, it is objectively accurate to state that we are paying more for PS+ and getting less than before. I think it's fair to call that out.
Oh boy. Come on Sony let's start offering some decent titles. I dont really play the plus games that much but for those that do this must sting.
What a load of trash
Arrrg so stupid! Sony is duuumb. 😝
Jk for prob the 1st time in forever theres not SOMETHING for me
What a load of trash
Not that I play a whole lot of the plus games lately. But I absolutely have no interest in any soccer game. Guess I'll try the racer once or twice though.
Thank God I didn't renew my subscription to be honest I won't be for a while now I really am starting to not care about the free games, because they will eventually come cheap to buy as some point it just adds to my backlog of games so it's fine with me.
I haven't played a football game since FIFA Road to the world cup 98 back on PS1
@R1spam Nah, PES 3 is the best.
Won't be waiting my time
I hate football 🤢🤮 no idea about the other game but I hope Xbox gives me something I like for my gold subscription.
@carlos82 Horizon Chase Turbo is awesome! Easily my most played racing game of this gen.
Meh, it’s okay. I don’t have either of ‘em. I’ll give ‘em a whirl. I’m still playing the heck out of Conan Exiles. Ha.
Not ready to use my PS+ renewal code
@Constable_What
Completely agree! Paying to play online in this day and age where games cost a small fortune, is outrageous! I can live with subscription services like game pass, cause you get a big list of games you can try...some may be crap....some may suprise you!....but you get a constantly updated list of games AND online multiplayer functionality....a far cry from paying over the odds for multiplayer (especially when some games are multiplayer only...and are still full price...looking at you COD!)...and then having just a couple of sub standard ps4 games thrown your way each month as a "thankyou!" Sony, you're taking the piss! Proper!
Last time the plus games were this crap I let my sub lapse for a few months.
Another month of awful free psplus games. I don't know why I even get subscribe to psplus still.
Both are sport games, so unfair
These two games...
@Boucho11 Watch the language please
@Rob_sin Watch your language as well.
I never played a PES game, so I'm interested in trying it out.
I don't think I've heard much of Horizon Chase Turbo, but I'll give it a shot.
@elviscrid
It's just not worth it for me. I have more than enough games, and these freebies just don't do it for me. I usually just buy games I'm interested in... I've only ever played a couple plus games anyway! Haha
If online wasn't tacked on to the service I doubt the subs would be growing. I highly doubt it.
Sony is indeed taking the piss by inflating the value of this service by keeping online play tied to it, raising the price, and offering another subscription service on top of Plus...
That's crap. Too expensive. Too little value, and I have no choice but to keep the service if I want to play online. Which I do as a lot of my friends and GF play online on PS4.
So I'm stuck. GG Sony. Well played.
@Tasuki sorry capt
WOW! This is the exact reason I decided to cancel my subscription and get a refund right after I got the mail my year sub was automatically renewed this weekend. Holy cow, this is bad. And it is not going to be better.
Horizon Chase Turbo is great fun, especially jn split screen multiplayer.
Thankfully, I got a year's extension to PS+ for £35 in the recent Days of Play deals but still this feels like Sony are just churning out whatever bargain basement games that have been on sale recently. With things like Dragon Age and Fallout 4 available for about £5 at least include something of that calibre or, dare I say it, give some limited access to PS Now as part of the sub?
Really seem to have lost out since the Vita and PS3 days and the recent price hikes are unwarranted.
So glad I don't pay for PS Plus anymore! It's months like this where I feel I made the right choice and why my Wii U & PC get more use....
I think one thing that has gotten overlooked in recent times about the "free game" debates, is the competing services. EG:At one point there'd been a few Ubisoft ones,(mostly their older single player games like Beyond G&E HD (ps3),Rayman Legends etc.),but with their move to service games this has greatly reduced. EA seemed to team with Xbone for their old 360 catalog on GWG & their own ea access.
And then there's Microsoft buying up indie titles for gamepass which I assume probably have some clause to not appear on rival services like ps plus-at least for a certain period.
If I recall early this gen, we had stuff like Resogun, rocket league. Don't starve etc. which launched alongside being a plus title so they felt "newer".
Its also a shame Sony never pursued the ps2 classics line-if they had converted more back catalog ps2 games, they'd probably make a great source today to tap into for some freebies.
In Asia we get Pes and Aegis defender. Not interested in either of those.
@Ryall They are nothing alike. Might as well say the original pitfall is the same as sonic mania.
Laughing at all the Americans and sweaty basement dwelling video game nerds who are distraught about being given a sports/soccer game! Brilliant
Guys, its the best football game on the market, why are you so disappointed? And why would this be any worse a month than getting Borderlands? I mean, I hate FPS but I didn't whine about it. I even downloaded it and, I know this is crazy, gave it a go!! PS Plus should offer something for everyone, and they have.
I agree it's a bit of a cop-out to offer it 2 months before the next one, but still, it's a smart move by Konami and if you don't own it and don't usually buy football games, the fact another one comes out soon doesn't really matter, does it?
Good month.
@get2sammyb You're a football fan, right? And a gamer? And you're going to tell me you prefer FIFA over PES? Really? I question everything on this website from now on!
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya Football is 'niche'??? It's the biggest sport on the planet, what are you talking about?
@tomassi football may be, but football video games aren't.
The same way Formula 1 is watched and supported by millions, but the video game market percentage is markedly lower than that of the more accessible and general genres.
Though, it is interesting that almost all the actual Football fans I know prefer PES.
A bit like NBA 2K over NBA Live.
Is it an accessibility thing or does it just represent the sport better?
@ApostateMage Jurassic Park.
Sorry, I have Partridgequoteresponsesyndrome. The doctors tell me there's nothing they can do.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya I'd disagree with you to an extent, FIFA is one of the biggest selling games on the planet year after year after all.
As for PES, the gameplay is a million times what FIFA offers, IMO. There is a weight to the players and the ball which makes it feel more satisfying. FIFA feels floaty like the players are ice skating and kicking a beach ball around. The graphics are arguably better as well. People get hung up about the licences but these can be sorted in half hour with an option file downloaded on the internet (I still can't believe the amount of people who don't realise that. Konami should actively provide links within the game if legally able to - Big Ant do this for Don Bradman cricket so I can't see why Konami can't). The one thing that FIFA has over PES is online, presentation and modes. I'm not an online guy anyway so that doesn't bother me. Also Konami have released like 5-6 DLC packs this season with PES, which is really good support I think (includes new stadiums, kits, faces, boots, balls etc). It's not perfect by any means, but it's the best football game.
Personally I'm always happy to have sports games in my collection, even sports I'm not that into (Basketball, Baseball, American Football) because sometimes you just want something you can de-stress to.
In short, I think people are moaning for no good reason. If you like PES, you will already have it, if you like FIFA this is a good chance to try the opposition and if you don't like football games, you can add it to your library and, hey, you never know!
Looks like Sony had very little to do with the previous month's 2K freebie as suspected...
If I didn't need the bloody thing for online multiplayer I'd be so done with PS plus by now, prices go up, quality goes down. Good going Sony!
pes 2019 ill be downloading that. Lets make Manchester United great again.
Can't wait for my subscription to end. I hope everyone unsatisfied with where this service is going will turn off the automatic renewal and take a nice long break from psplus until Sony gets itself back to shape again.
At least I got Judgement for July 😀
Colour me unimpressed. I'm not a fan of football any more than I am call of duty, but fair enough I won't like everything on ps plus. I do wish they would up it to 3 games again. One bargain basement indie added would make a difference.
I understood the decision to remove PS3 & Vita games from PSPlus, but I don't understand why they keep offering these lame games as of late. I always get into each console generation late; that way I don't get any early adoption woes & when I do jump in there's more games to choose from...plus I always have a backlog.
When I got my first PS3 in 2012 the PSPlus program was incredible. Every month there were games by big companies I'd never played and cool indie games to discover. I just made the jump to the PS4 finally in March and have been really disappointed. I've thought for a long time that Sony should run a poll every month with 5 of 6 titles and let the gamers choose what they'd prefer. It wouldn't be difficult. As it sits now, we pay $50-60 dollars for online play & a small amount of cloud storage for saves. It's felt like a rip for a long time now...
@get2sammyb How about a review of Horizon Chase Turbo?
That's gonna be a big yikes from me.
I don't really care much for the monthly games, but I would like to be able to play online with my friends and stream... The extra discounts are also nice but not good enough for me to pay 75 SEK per month, soon to be 95 SEK. 10 USD when you just want to be able to play online is just too much as a monthly payment.
I am waiting for it to become cheaper, until then I will only play offline games or on my PC when I want to play online.
@lacerz You havent bought Horizon Zero Dawn yet?
I could not care less if i buy the games i like. 😆
Before people didnt want indie games with the great months people cry they already have the games i personally think i get my money out of it.
People really cry about this every time. I rather have a football game then a American Football so boring or a 2K basketball game with unskippable adds. 😂
@Flaming_Kaiser
No, I have HZD (although I've only played to the point where she finds the headpiece). I haven't played the Horizon racer. My backlog is large.
Not the best games this month to be honest. Please Sony, provide a cheaper option to just have the online gaming aspect of PS+. If I want games I will buy them.
I used to love PES deluxe on the SNES so I’ll give it a go 😂
@lacerz Ok then i have said nothing my apologies.
@Kunfoostu I would love a HD Edition from the Snes with no password system though always funny when you down a wrong letter or sign. 😆
I'll never re-new my subscription. That's it Sony, you blew it.
Sony just swapped Detroit: Become Human for the soccer game.
Bad move by Sony, at least offer Detroit as well as PES. Don't recall being offered a sub when we had NBA 2K16 on PS Plus. Already own Detroit too, so there's that.
They could of added Detroit instead of swapping was going to play PES for a little bit to get a football fix before the new English season starts in a couple of months. Detroit isn't to bad for me played it on disk and sold it so now I can download it and get some more trophies if I want
Well July has just become an amazing month, I was going to buy Detroit this week as a birthday present to myself but Sony has given me it instead 😁
Bad precedent by Sony imo. Not every month is going to cater to everyone, giving into the whiners is only going to make it worse moving forward. Was looking forward to checking out PES haven't played a soccer game in years, Detroit looks like a game I wouldn't enjoy at all but at least still get Horizon!
This feels like an odd decision...I had no interest in PES but I imagine that some people were excited about getting it. I think it would have made more sense to add a game instead of swapping it.
Already got Detroit, but it's not like I was ever going to play PES anyway so it doesn't really matter to me that they swapped them
I was admittedly underwhelmed by PES 2019, but I'd just bought Detroit in the sale last month assuming it would be a long time until it was on Plus. So we now have a situation where neither of the games promoting the platform's online gaming service are online titles? Anyone have a clue what Sony are trying to do, besides pushing users away and making Now look more attractive?
It'd be better if they had added Detroit rather than swap it out with PES. That said, if they're only going to stick with two games, Detroit is a big step up and makes this a really strong month.
Bugger, I was looking forward to a bit of PES and I've already platinumed Detroit. I blame all the yanks who think their armoured rugby is real football.
Detroit is amazing!!!
yikes. People hate PES even as a free game. Major ouch at Konami.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi The free version is online only isn't it apart from offline exhibition matches. I want to play league and cup games offline against AI so the free version wouldn't be suitable for me
😂
I was happy to ask to my FIFA friends to try PES in order to grasp what gameplay and real physics mean - seriously am I only one who sees FIFA players run oddly like marionettes or the ball moves like a hockey puck?
On the other hand, now, as I own PES 2019, am happy to get Detroit.
wow.its basically .4 games we getting.soits cool.i don't mind it.word is listening.imagine money releasing a all streaming service.the backlash they will get..we don't want a all streaming console.sony knows that word up son
Well, that's a turn up for the books! I was looking forward to Horizon Chase Turbo and not PES, so the two replacements are a pleasant surprise. Note I've not played either, but much more inclined to give them a go over PES.
Wait, what?! Sony listening to the fan backlash?! Quick ma, get the camera!
Nice of Sony to respond to the backlash, but as an owner of Detroit and Heavy Rain, I was kinda looking forward to PES. My sports collection is quite limited.
Oh well.
It speaks volumes for the nameless social (but not socially interactive),media blog team there-silently update the article, ignore all the negative feedback, instead of having a senior playstation manager make a post there instead. Own the mistakes, acknowledge the feedback & make a commitment to the feedback made about your plan to rectify the situation & try ensure you don’t make the same mistakes going forward!
What would be nice is the indie content manager(s),responsible for managing the EU store interacted on the blog & or twitter etc., instead of nameless social media people who fail to interact with their customer community, hence fiascos like the ps plus/weekly blog updates. Reposting articles on twitter to silently ghost & ignore your customers feedback doesn't count btw SIEE!
I'm... shocked. That's a great change. Good on Sony.
Wait, what?
Now I know the choices of PES 2019 and Horizon Chase Turbo weren't exactly going down well with a lot of PS Plus subscribers, but swapping out one game completely with one of Sony's own, very recent exclusives... I don't know how to feel. While I will DEFINITELY download Detroit, this is going to spark some controversy. Possible scenarios:
(1) Sony just essentially scuttled whatever deal they had with Konami to have PES 2019 on PS Plus for this month, which could have a negative effect on boosting multiplayer numbers that Konami could have been banking on.
(2) By folding to the pressure this early on and swapping the game, this will put more pressure on Sony to offer at least one AAA on Plus per month. Not every month is going to be stellar and more people are likely to already own the AAA releases, which devalues the service more. Next month would be a good time to announce PS Now being rolled into Plus to counter that.
(3) Barring any announcement of PS Now being integrated with PS Plus, and since Sony didn't just add Detroit to the lineup instead of swapping with PES, we're getting 2 games per month for PS Plus until further notice, folks. That's it.
Damn you Sony. Damn you all that only know how to complain.
Alright gesture, but I have no interest in Detroit so it’s still stupid. I’m not satisfied. It also should have been added, not swapped.
Great, they swapped a game I’ve actually wanted to try for a game I just recently purchased in a sale. Thanks Sony, you rock.
I AM SO OUTRAGE I WANTED TO PLAY THE BALL KICK GAME
Edit: On a more serious note, great change in my opinion. Perrssonnalllyyy I think they should have just ADDED Detroit. Some people might have legitimately been excited for soccer shoe endorsement simulator or w/e
already have Detroit and heavy rain so it has no benefit to me, i wanted to download that football game for my partner too, ah well.
Well if that's the way to do it.
Sony - PS Plus August
Tetris effect and Fist of the North Star. Plus a £4 meal deal voucher for Tesco please.
Detroit: Become Human is definitely a big improvement.
@Naoto-chi That's exactly what I've been doing since I cancelled my renewal. I haven't missed PS+ one tiny bit.
Well, for me is a much better month, since I wanted to buy Detroit.. But at the same time I feel that if they announced PES and wanted to make things better, they should had added a game instead of replacing it. Maybe add a game not as good as Detroit, but a good one anyway.. Still, it's nice that they heard us..
I see nothing to suggest this is due to feedback and not say a rights issue
@huyi there's a free-to-play version
@manu0 it's a online only version i wanted a offline mode to play he leagues but it's a shame anyway.
Already got and completed Detroit, but great for those that haven't played it. Do think it was odd to replace rather than add, though. For me the big argument is that two games does not present enough value, so I'm still not massively impressed either way to be honest.
Awh I was ready to be sportsing the ball into a net thing to get a couple runs and a wicket or two. I am now outraged.
On a serious note, I am curious now at the precedence set for all future months. I don't think this is going to go well...
detroit was the last game i bought. really liked it, though i enjoyed the kara/alice story arc more than marcus' to be honest. on the second playthrough, i found it really hard to make decisions that i knew had to be made in order to achieve the platinum trophy.
I've got PES 2019 and the DD version of Become Human. Oh well at least I've got Horizon Chase Turbo to look forward to.
I dislike Quantic Dreams games and would of been happier with PES - not that I have played a Football game since the last Gen Fifa 09. I would have been happy is they dropped that 'racing game' with the QD games as I am more likely to play these but more likely to have played PES over all of these.
Not sure if its a 'better' swap for me or actually made things worse - regardless of how well 'rated' they were by critics. Its more about the style and genre of games that I would play and I would be more inclined to play PES over QD's games which appeal a bit more than that racing game that has so little appeal I can't remember exactly called...
Very odd. I was going to take PES for a spin but I have to say I'm much more interested in Detroit: Become Human. Was actually going to pick the game up earlier this year but didn't due to my backlog and hopes that the game would become a PS Plus title eventually. Super stoked!
'Im the android sent by Cyberlife'
I can't see this being a licensing issue - surely they'd have that sorted BEFORE the reveal last week?... I've also seen conspiracy theories about PES having a negative impact on the launch of EA Access which will include FIFA 19. Personally I would have preferred PES over Detroit but it was always a strange inclusion given the Lite version is already free.
Happy very much, I am. Lost of best but will never be forgotten- yoda 2019
Thanks for getting rid of the only game I was thinking of trying
Excellent, fair play to them
Was actually quite excited about PES tbh but I've also nearly bought Detroit and Heavy Rain a few times so it all worked out in the end.
If I was being a total spoilt brat I'd say they should have added these and left PES. But I'm not so I won't!
I'm not that keen on Detroit, but it's a vast improvement on that utter detritus. There's football EVERYWHERE, people. Go see or play it. Pick up an old football game for 50p from CeX or something. Quit your whining because people who hate this garbage have to put up with literally hundreds of hours per year of people talking, playing, shouting, or generally being idiots about it.
Got Detroit, haven't got PES2019...
Harumph!
@Johnnycide Meanwhile those who actually like football have to now put up with a 'game' where you get to press a button every so often. See, people have different tastes. I don't like DBH or Borderlands the month before but I don't spit my dummy out the pram like some entitled whingers.
@tomassi when was the last time you went for a quiet pint and had idiots screaming at the TV while someone played Borderlands? Ever been stuck in traffic for an hour because the police have stopped traffic for a parade honouring fictional androids?
Nope. There's enough emphasis placed on football already. A lot of people don't like it, a huge proportion of whom are big on video games, and Sony listened to them
@Johnnycide that's the most ridiculous reason I've ever heard. There's too much football in real life, so why have it on Plus? I think you're attitude to it (everyone who likes it seems to be an idiot apparently) says more about you. Maybe you got bullied at school or something and still have hang ups about it?
If there are a huge percentage of gamers who don't like football, why is FIFA generally one of the biggest selling games every year? And also, there is way too much violence and bloodshed in the real world, so maybe we shouldn't put FPS games on Plus either?
@tomassi it's not really that ridiculous an argument. There was a huge backlash, Sony listened. There's obviously a lot of people who feel like I do.
As for the bullied at school part, it's a bit of a generalisation to say that. I was actually quite into boxing and basketball at school, but I don't play boxing or sports games in general.
FIFA sells to people who play mainly FIFA. It's a hobby for them, same as CoD or Battlefield. The only difference is that it's deemed acceptable to kick a ball about in your spare time. The comment about banning FPS games doesn't stand up, as the equivalent would be that it encourages players to join the army as opposed to indiscriminately murder people.
Not everyone who likes football is an idiot, obviously. Most of my friends do.
Thing is, all of the morons I've met are super into it as well, while everyone I've known who hates it tends to have done quite well for themselves.
@Johnnycide Well, I can't disagree more. Anyone who doesn't like football I'm naturally a bit suspicious of! Anyone who likes boxing I tend to think of as a bit pikey who have also done quite well for themselves but generally wear chunky gold jewellery and look edgy in pubs.
The fact you know non-idiots and morons who like football shows that its extremely popular across the board.
@tomassi there are a lot of people who don't like football. They're not usually "nerds" or "basement dwellers" either. There's quite a few on this site, come to think of it.
As for boxing, my grandad used to box years ago in Liverpool so he taught me from a young age. Wouldn't say that most boxers are travellers either. Totally different thing, that. From your description I think that if you ever did meet me in person you'd probably be quite shocked. If you were going to make assumptions it would probably be more "that guy definitely drinks craft beer and collects vinyl".
Yeah, I'll give you that it's popular across the board, but most people who want PES own it already. Those who don't usually just play FIFA instead. They're sort of their own industry as opposed to games now.
Still, glad it got changed. PES is probably going to be about a quid in a month anyway.
Gutted, I was looking forward to pes, a proper video game, not a game trying to be a film, guess I will give it a miss this month, again.
@Johnnycide So, the point remains that there are plenty of good people who like football, and some morons too. And there are plenty of good people who don't like football, and some morons too. And there are plenty of decent people who like boxing, and some morons too. And there are plenty of gamers who are decent, and some who are morons too!
Glad we could clear that up!
