Update: The PlayStation Network appears to be back up and running again. It was down for around three hours or so.
Original story: Over the past hour or so, we've been seeing numerous reports of PSN going down for users - with many unable to access the PlayStation Store, see Friends lists, or play games online. The Network Service Status page agrees, stating that all services are experiencing issues.
As detailed on the page via this link, every service detailed is suffering from problems across the board. We ourselves have just booted up the PS4 to find that we can't access online services either. Thankfully, PlayStation is aware of the issue, with confirmation through the tweet below:
Are you experiencing issues? Let us know in the comments below.

First time I been hit in a while. Logged out, now I can't log back in. Can't play anything because this isn't the primary ps4. Crap.
Yeah have issues here in UK but before anyone gets their panties in a bunch let's remember that Xbox Live, heck even Google can go down from time to time as well. Stuff like this happens.
Also to put somethings into perspective, Guerrilla Games's producer on Killzone Shadow Fall and Horizon Zero Dawn passed away today.
@AdamNovice Oh no! That's absolutely awful news.
And PEOPLE think streaming is the future. Ha
Been playing FFXIV for hours until now, its fine for me.
but yeah most friendlists are offline, definitely down.
*update
tried to login with another account.
damn its down now.
@TowaHerschel7 I know my thoughts are with them.
No online for me at the moment , but all of my games still work thankfully.
Brother: "can you come in and play Destiny with me?"
Me: "sure, two secs."
Also Me: "Actually no, it says I have no access to the game for 95days 21hours 4minutes and 8seconds".... :/
Yeah, digital and streaming future is going to be fun!
@GADG3Tx87 And even singeplayer games get more and more live service features. We are doomed.
I'm in but I signed in about 5 hours ago, just began Detroit about an hour ago which downloaded a huge update, hope I haven't broke it all for you.
Detroit seems fantastic so far.
@Vonuz
I'm honestly dreading it. Atleast with most discs I can play offline but atleast here in the UK so many retail and online stores have shut down making them harder and harder to obtain. The ones that are left price their games at very close to the digital price but I still stubbornly try to buy discs.
A friend said to me last night "you're the old guard and a dying breed." I bloody hope not!
Online services down in Belgium too. Really sucks for games with daily tasks or events.
Yup, just got home from work and turned on the PS4 just to have a look. It’s down.
everything is offline for me atm, no worries i am playing a single player game anyway.
Just as I boot up ESO... Sigh.
Just tried to access the PS App on my phone (currently not at home) to be greeted with an error message
Down for me too.
Just signed back into MK 11 (couldn't do so before) service might be coming back.
Working for me in the States.
The streaming future is a DECADE away.
Working for me again. Played a round of Rocket League.
still can't sync and trophies though and can't view friends list.
Just wait till November when all the big games are releasing, lol. Network will be a nightmare then. Off the top of my head releasing in November,Shenmue 3,Death Stranding, new Star Wars Game,Doom Eternal, and there are probably more im forgetting to mention.
Trophy lists, friends list, and Playstation Store are still down for me, but the messages app, and communities app on PS4 are working again.
Also for me the issues started at 8:00 AM and the service was completely down from 9:25 AM to 3:30 PM.
The usual hysterical rantings on Twitter were ridiculous. "My console is basically a brick" and the like. I can actually feel my heart sink when I read such crap.
Sure, I was inconvenienced last night. For the first time in a long time, I'd made plans to play some co-op with a mate from around 7:30pm... what we were actually going to play was undecided, but we were looking forward to it.
Then we fired up out respective PS4s and neither of us could get any network access; anything using the internet on PS4 (like Netflix) was fine, and it even downloaded the 1.11 update for Days Gone quickly and without issue, but there was no network access despite being signed in.
Well, wasn't that just sod's law? The first time we'd made arrangements for ages, and the first time PSN has been down for ages.
We kept an eye on it for a bit, but then he went off to watch a film, and I fired up Days Gone to start a run on Survival difficulty. When I closed the game at about 11:15pm and went back to the UI, the network was already back up and running. So yeah, about 3 hours in total.
Three hours of downtime, for the first time in I can't remember how long. A mild irritation, nothing more. We rescheduled for tomorrow.
I agree with other commenters that this sort of thing doesn't bode well for an always-online or streaming future, but at the same time, the knee-jerk over-reaction of many people on social media is as comical as it is tiresome.
This is why the always online future can go f**k itself. I was against MS trying to bring us in that age in 2013, six years later I'm still against it and I don't see my stance changing. The internet isn't perfect and can go down at any time. I have no problem with companies wanting to set up services and all that but consoles and games should always be able to be used when offline as well.
I was playing Persona 5 so was pretty much unaffected by this, so many potential problems with an all streaming future with downtime like this, games taken down for maintenance or issues with your own internet connection
worked fine for me on PS3, but seemed very sluggish on PS4. the store worked, but friends list, what's new etc. regularly timed out or gave errors.
good thing i was at work during that period
@RoyalGuard i know right, streaming is fine as an option along side physical and digital but it's not OK as the ONLY option
I have 95% on disc so im good but its 3 hours people get a life. 😆
The only really annoying thing is whenever PSN has an outage, it's being reported minutes after it started, along with its back up again follow up stories.
Xbox live outages lasting several hours barely get mentioned.
Perhaps it's down to nobody actually caring about Xbox live outages????
Bah, I missed it, was at the seaside in the rain.
