Alan Wake Seems Set for PS4 After Remedy Acquires Rights

I really enjoyed this game and was disappointed there was never a sequel so would be more than happy to see it revisited

I remember buying this, on the 360, just out of curiosity. If I remember correctly (which I probably don't), wasn't this touted as a 360 launch title, only to make an appearance 5 years later, or so? Anyway, I bought it back then, played a bit of it and then went, "Meh".
Consequently, I couldn't care less if this old game re-appeared on Playstation.

Played it originally on the 360 but very briefly. Whether it was a demo or a rented copy, I can't remember but I remember it being very atmospheric. I'd definitely be interested in checking it out now that my taste in games has matured since then. A full blown sequel would be sweet too.

@JoeBlogs I've played the original and the shortish extra game back in the day on 360. Narratively it's a bit flaky with some definitive Stephen King-flavours, but on the whole I thought it was quite an atmospheric and unique game, so I'd definitely recommend it. Might even play it again if a PS4 version comes about.

I like max payne 2 more than alan wake but sure, I’ll take it if it release on ps4

Alan wake 2 hopefully as we were supposed to be getting that many years back. I wouldn't mind a remastered version either I literally just bought it on the steam sale for £3.80 but my laptop can only run jankily on low settings (yet has no problem with dead space 2 on everything normal which is a higher requirements game) so it's be nice if they did it with all dlc and nightmare.

Finally I have some real hope for a sequel now. I'll also buy a PS4 remaster of the original if it happens. Loved the game.

Whilst Alan Wake probably isn’t for me. It’s interesting to see both Sony and Microsoft are becoming more relaxed about allowing their second party exclusive to go multi platform (if that’s what the developer wants) a few years after launch.

Whether Alan Wake and the Alan Wake: American Nightmare come to Playstation (4 or 5) remastered for the generation it arrives in or not, What most excites me about this is the fact that Remedy probably wouldn't of bought the Licence if they didn't have plans to use it for new games.

Alan Wake was one of my favourite 360 exclusives. It has such a 'Stephen King' vibe to it and I am a big fan of his books, and to a degree, some of the films. I would love to see more Stephen King type games if not actual Stephen King franchises turned into games. Putting the player into these worlds will be much more fun than watching an actor and as we know, not every film based on a Stephen King book has worked well. The Dark Tower for example could be better as a game than the film was...

@BAMozzy the DT film was a travesty why king let them butcher the books so bad I don't know

The only 360 game that I was envious of, I bought it to play on my little sister's 360 but I never got around to it lol. Too busy with my ps4 catalogue.

Alan Awake 2 PS5 exclusive confirmed.

I loved this game and thought the atmosphere was genuinely spooky in parts. I'd defo buy it again.

I think Alan Wake was the only Xbox exclusive I've enjoyed. The soundtrack was awesome, and altogether was like playing a movie.

i don't think that alan wake 2 would be a ps5 exclusive since the first game was on xbox.

knowing sony they will get a remaster of the first game with all dlc,and alan wake 2 will release on both ps and xbox. maybe a TIMED exclusive on ps5 at best.

even if remedy becomes a PS studio,they still will be able to release alan wake 2 on the xbox for reasons mentioned above but the remedy games after that will be PS exclusives.

This works super well for me. My only reason to purchase Xbox was if Alan Wake 2 ever came to fruition!

I hope this means they will look at a rerelease to gauge interest

I think I would buy a PS4 remaster of this if they touched up the graphics a bit (especially the character models, that were a bit behind times when it originally released IMO).
It's what you could call an action horror title, but the combat engine was really good and unique.

Ok this is weird, I was literally, just yesterday, thinking they should remaster Alan Wake.

I loved this game, was so disappointed with the arcade style 'sequel' they released.

One of the most unique and atmospheric narrative single player games made, also reading the comments seems like a lot of play station fans do really want to play this game which is great to see. It being released on PS4 would be a great thing.

I loved the atmosphere of this game back in my 360 days, so I'd definitely pick this up again for PS4 if it was a good remaster and bundled with the DLC. I think it would sell pretty well too on PS4 and Switch, provided they generate enough consumer awareness and release it during a slow month; here's hoping they do that so we can eventually get an Alan Wake 2!

Remedy would fit playstation first party so well, single player story driven games. I really hope sony acquires them

It’s a great game for PS4 players to experience if it does get ported or remastered, personally I’d rather it got ported so they could focus fully on a sequel if they even have it in the pipeline.

Because this was an Xbox 360 exclusive, does that mean a PS3 or PS4 exclusive like Uncharted or Spider-Man could ever come to Xbox if Naughty Dog or Insomniac ever want to release their games multi platform?

@MaccaMUFC def not uncharted as Naughty Dog is actually owned by Sony. Spider-Man is a bit more tricky and potentially could release multi-format but I wouldn't want to bet my life on it.

@Jester-AVTR - Sony funded/published the Spider-Man game so basically own the licence outright. The only way it could go multiplat is if they sell those rights to Marvel or Insomniac, much like the new Remedy deal.

Sony should buy this studio. They're games are great.

@Shigurui that's why I say a bit more tricky to bring multi plat. I would hope they don't sell the license, ps exclusives are a fun running joke between me and the area Xbox rep.

Looking at other reports of this, there's a crucial difference that very much changes the tone of the story. The rights have not been "bought" by Remedy, they have reverted to Remedy, accompanied by a one-off royalty payment. So this actually doesn't imply anything about a new game at all.
