What are the best PSVR games? PlayStation VR has been around for a good while now, and it’s amassed an incredibly impressive selection of software in that time. Of course, with new fans entering the virtual reality realm for the first time every single day, we figured that we’d compile a list of the best PSVR games to date.
While PSVR is technically quite outdated, it remains an affordable option for PS4 owners, and it has a great library of titles to choose from. The range of experiences is huge, so there's almost certainly something for everyone. There are family-friendly games such as Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Job Simulator, but it goes all the way over to mature titles like Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and The Persistence. Additionally, the scope of experiences varies a lot, too. Full length games can be found on PSVR, like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, or you can explore some shorter games like Paper Beast or Batman: Arkham VR.
There's lots of variety, then, but which games are the best? That's where you come in. This list is directly influenced by your user ratings. For every game, you can leave your own user score, and doing so will have an impact on which games are featured and in what order. You can get started using the search bar below — look for some PSVR games and rate them as you see fit. Doing so will mean you get your say on the shape of this feature.
A game requires at least 20 ratings before it'll show up at all. If your favourite PSVR game isn't here, it probably needs more user votes.
Alright, let's get to it then. Here's our list of the best PSVR games, as told by you lot.
20. Star Wars: Squadrons (PS4)
Star Wars: Squadrons is a valiant attempt to recapture the magic of the movie's many dogfights, and the results are somewhat mixed. While there's a surprising amount of depth to the flight and combat, the campaign's mission design is uninspired, and tells a pretty dull story. However, it features fantastic PSVR support, so well-implemented we'd argue it's the best way to play. On top of that is a decent multiplayer suite. There's definitely plenty to like about this title, even if it doesn't quite stick the landing.
19. The Playroom VR (PS4)
The Playroom VR cemented Team ASOBI as one of Sony’s fledgling creative forces. Designed to demonstrate the power and capabilities of the Japanese giant’s PSVR headset, this included a selection of excellent asymmetrical and single player tech demos, including one platforming level which would go on to inspire the awesome Astro Bot Rescue Mission and its PS5 successor, Astro’s Playroom.
18. Rez Infinite (PS4)
Rez Infinite revives the cult hit shooter for the modern age, and it's no less brilliant now than it was on PS2. In fact, with its crisp visuals and sound, optional PSVR support, and a brand new zone called Area X, this is the definitive version of the experience. Shoot enemies to the beat of the music and just vibe with the electronic soundtrack, enjoying the audiovisuals as you go. A timeless arcade classic.
17. PlayStation VR Worlds (PS4)
PlayStation VR Worlds is the perfect game to show off PSVR to your pals. Comprising five very different short experiences, it's intended to demonstrate the potential of virtual reality, and it does that pretty well. Ocean Descent is arguably the most effective of the bunch, lowering you into the depths protected by a shark cage. It's scary, perfectly showcasing how immersive PSVR can be. London Heist is also a solid effort, but the rest of the compilation isn't as strong. While the package is inconsistent, it remains a great first VR title.
16. Farpoint (PS4)
A game built around an entire peripheral, Farpoint shipped with the PSVR Aim Controller at launch, with the intention of transforming the immersion factor of first-person shooters forever. The end-result was a relatively rote sci-fi campaign, elevated terrifically by some truly tactile gunplay. Divorced from virtual reality and its pack-in pistol, this wouldn’t have been a particularly remarkable release – but put it all together and you end up with one of the most satisfying outer-space experiences on PS4.
15. Concrete Genie (PS4)
Concrete Genie probably isn't the first PS4 exclusive you'd think of, but it's certainly one of the most creative. Playing as a young boy harassed by bullies, you discover a magical paintbrush which can paint living, breathing worlds on the walls of your dismal town. You're free to create your very own murals, populating your scenes with friendly creatures you can interact with, and who will help you on your journey. It's a heartfelt and very enjoyable adventure, and an optional PSVR mode certainly sweetens the deal.
14. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown (PS4)
Ace Combat flies under the radar, but it's a fantastic series that deserves recognition. The latest of these arcadey fighter jet games, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, is right up there with the best entries, offering up an earnest wartime tale that has you smoking bogeys like Tom Cruise. The smooth controls and great visuals make it a pleasure to engage in dogfights amid the clouds. The campaign is great, but on top of that is a decent online multiplayer mode and optional PSVR missions, which are staggeringly good — if you have the stomach for them.
13. Moss (PS4)
One of PSVR's first great games is Moss. Utilising virtual reality to great effect, you control the titular mouse in the traditional way, but it's all framed from your perspective, looking down at the tiny kingdom she's traversing. It's a beautifully animated game that combines light combat with solid puzzles, the result being a really charming, if short, platformer.
12. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood (PS4)
This PSVR rail shooter really will get your blood pumping. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood takes you on a horrifying rollercoaster ride as you shoot targets and deal with all manner of jump scares and other terrors. Multiple routes through the stages are there to discover, and online leaderboards will keep you coming back to chase up those high scores.
11. Gran Turismo Sport (PS4)
Sony's flagship racing series has had its ups and downs, but Gran Turismo Sport was an especially unusual step in the history of the franchise. Primarily focusing on online multiplayer and esports, the game featured the same gorgeous visuals and impressive handling you'd expect, but without most of the content that fans love. Again, the game itself looks and plays great, and its online racing is rather innovative, encouraging good sportsmanship above all. There's still a lot to like about Sport, but the meatier Gran Turismo 7 is arguably the stronger entry overall.
