Sony really wants to remind you that PlayStation Now is a service that exists since it’s halved the price. The company – which has allowed Google and Microsoft to dominate the cloud gaming conversation over the past few months, despite neither offering a real-world product yet – has added a new advertisement to the PlayStation 4’s dashboard, and it appears to, er, appear even if you’ve got featured content disabled.
The promotion isn’t all that egregious, though we’re sure it’ll get some social media users agitated. You can obviously just remove it from your home menu by pushing the Options button and hitting Delete – a process that will take less time than composing an angry tweet. You might want to click it and have a poke around the app, though – this service is starting to look like seriously good value right now. After all, have you seen the list of all PS Now games – it’s impressive!

The drop in price and addition of new and marquee titles are only positives for PS Now.
I still have yet to try it but I will say that when I clear out my backlog more, I will definitely use it for newer titles I haven’t played yet. If you haven’t played God of War yet, just that game alone is worth $9.99 and you can beat it in a month. And then there’s about 800 more titles to explore.
Feels like it’s in the right price range now; cheaper than Netflix.
Be real, this article was only made to show off that Last of Us theme.
I got that ad as well. It's a bit annoying that they ignored the setting to disable featured content.
I paid for 1 month to try it out. We'll see how it goes
@DerMeister
Still not available in lots of coutries in EU.
Yep, noticed that despite me having the ads switched off. Sneaky Sony.
I delete mine couple hours ago im playing destiny 2 and im enjoying it.word up son
I have, absolutely, ZERO interest in cloud gaming. Not from Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft or Google. It's a bad idea for consumers, I have serious doubts about it's real functionality for high precision games, and if it becomes successful it will be the final nail in the coffin of buying and selling used games. It also makes it harder and harder to preserve games or to collect.
@Heavyarms55 You can download the PS4 ones. You only can’t do it with the PS3 ones because its architecture was wack. It’s an option, and one that people will choose. Options are nice, the cloud won’t replace anything when Sony can sell us shiny discs and digital downloads.
Yeah, I deleted it the moment I saw it. I have no interest in supporting cloud gaming and prefer to own my games. Cloud gaming is a danger in my opinion.
But yeah, slightly annoying, not worth making a racket about.
Yeah deleted and let's face it the competitions equivalent subscription is still far superior, so for now I'll continue to ignore it but I suspect it'll become a big part of the PS5
No cloud gaming for me thanks Sony.
@Jaz007
I agree but on the other hand psNow is better than the other cloud gaming options because you can download it. I'm not interested but I d rather psnow take customers from the other services than the other way round.
It definitely promoting more digital and a nail in the coffin for retail discs though in the long term.
One thing reassuring is next gen most important feature is said to be local SSD and hardware power.
having great fun with it, don't understand the negativity if you don't want it don't buy it! as someone who never had a ps before 4 this is spot on for me. particularly loving playing all the Sly and Ratchet games i missed out on.
I just deleted it. I played the original god of war on it several years ago and it was fine but i'd rather just download them to keep without a subscription, however if it were rolled into plus that would be different!
Car Mechanic Simulator? Seriously?! There will be a PC Building Simulator next....
I did have a another nosy at the games last night. Still not great deal for me on there and they need to offer more recent games for me to be interested.
Deleted the annoying app link thing last night.
While Sony continues to ignore the best selling console of all time, this service really isn't worth it. Publish a shed load more PS2 titles and I might be interested.
PS Now is garbage. Only tried twice and with 2 games (Batman and MGS4) but the experience was awful. Input lag and and lag in-game. I gave it 2 shots and it failed. Garbage service even with my 50down/50up connection.
Speaking of ads, why am I getting XBOX Ads on this site???
PS Now ad > Options > Delete. Sorted innit.
Deleted and moved on. Not a big deal really.
clicked it and looked around then deleted it
no big deal this time round unlike that bloody Singstar one on PS3, it's still there you know with no way to remove it
i have taken to leaving a game in my PS3 now just so it doesn't show that bloody thing anymore when i boot it up
@shuvamg009 adds are cookie based, if your getting XB1 adds then it's because you have recently been looking at a lot of XB1 stuff online
Deleted it straight away
To me it was a fair deal at 19.99. With the addition of God of War and Uncharted 4 which I haven't played yet it is a killer deal imo. And with the ability to download a good amount of games now makes it even better. I give the service an easy A-
And no the competition is not far superior. What Microsoft is doing is ruining the value of games for players and developers. Given the amount of work it takes to make a game, having a new release be available for a dollar just because Microsoft wants to burn money to get people to their format, is not helping anyone. Sony's approach is far better for the industry imho.
Deleted it in about half a second, but Sony really shouldn't be ignoring peoples settings if they have it disabled to force an ad through, Im not comfortable with that, by any company.
'this service is starting to look like seriously good value right now'
'After all, have you seen the list of all PS Now games – it’s impressive!'
This article reads like an advertisement.
I remember that Singstar one on PS3 and that poor lady defending it on social media.
Still there!
Options button. Delete. Easy peasy
Just slightly annoyed that I can't bung it in a folder with all the other 'crApps'.
to be honest i didn't even realise it was just an ad, i thought it was an actual app because it appeared on the dashboard, and i removed it just like any other app.
So some people get Mad over a Ad??? How SAD I got it, deleted it and just got on with my Life
Saw it pop up last night. I went into each of the kids' profiles and deleted it (just in case they got tempted to click on it and accidentally started the free trial).
It reminded me of the PS3 Singstar add that you couldn't delete but luckily deleted this one right away.
@eltomo @Luna-Harmony I actually emailed Sony about that. I got a reply saying it was free so I should be happy about it. I replied getting leprosy is free and I didn't particularly want that either. Didn't get a response to that one. Ah well. I vented at least.
@Carl-G People aren't mad over an ad. People are mad because they specifically chose a preference setting and Sony has decided to ignore their choice. Big difference.
I hate ads on my consoles. It annoys me how prevalent it is on XB1 and this is annoying. It isn't the worst but it is still my console.
If they did a combo deal with plus for say £80 for both for the year I'd buy it in a heart beat but my worry is the lag over the servers because even on my 400mbps connection I still got lag when paying The Wolf Among Us on ps4 and I loved that game.
Doesn't really require an article designed to get people riled up but ok 🙄
Really nice from Sony letting the community know they devalued the consoles at the end of the gen. Just timed exclusives. All will be available on PC soon. I friggin hate the direction the gaming industry is taking.
@crimsontadpoles I promptly deleted it but on one note I have the same last of us II theme. 👌
@Heavyarms55 I feel the same, putting ads on my PS4 ui is not going to change my stance, I'm not going to support cloud gaming no matter what platform it is.
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L I totally agree with your sentiments, i.e. One man's Resistant fighter is another man's Terrorist. However, as for being 'passive aggressive', I have to disagree with that. It was not my intention to be 'passive aggressive', rather it was to make my point, without resorting to using juvenile swear/curse words (as you often see in other forums), in what I hoped would be an intelligible manner.
I note that you like the article, and that's fine by me. I have no quarrel with that. Actually, I also like the article, from a news/latest developments type thing point of view. The only thing that I didn't like, was the 'starting to look like seriously good value' & the 'it's impressive' bit. That's what sounded like an advertisement. I know that those two statements are subjective, but it just doesn't sit very well with me. It either just one person's view, or it could be interpreted as stating that it's an assumption of everybody (which it's not, or else I wouldn't be disagreeing with it). I'm just concerned about peer pressure upon minors, who may be reading this on the run-up to Christmas (No I'm not, send 'em down the coal mines and tell 'em to dig for their Xmas prezzy).
@YozenFroghurt Bah Humbug
This isn't even an issue and anyone who complains about this needs to look at the Xbox One dashboard and count the number of ads that you cannot remove, then rethink their complaint with Sony. My X1 currently has 5 ads, I'll take 1 I can make disappear without a thought.
Another cheap shot and Sony trying to top look like Microsoft I don't need reminded of how sh*t ps now is. Its not worth an extra tenner when it's an old library especially when most of us have a huge catalogue of games and plenty new. Consumerism at its worst but I don't blame Sony milking the death out the ps4 now that everyone knows a ps5 is on route soon. But I don't want it on my bloody wallpaper.
