Update: Blizzard has confirmed that Overwatch 2 is in development for PS4, but the developer has "no idea" when it'll actually release. We think you can probably put this one down as a cross-gen PS5 title.
Original story: Yep, Overwatch 2 is real, as evidenced by the rather brilliant cinematic reveal trailer that we've embedded above. Announced at BlizzCon 2019, the sequel to one of the world's most popular team-based shooters is adding quite a lot to the overall package. For starters, it's going to have full story missions as part of a campaign, and "highly replayable" co-op missions where you'll level up your heroes and unlock new abilities and perks.
There'll be new player versus player modes as well. You can get a brief overview of everything that was talked about via the gameplay trailer below.
No release date or release window has been given for Overwatch 2, and at the time of writing, we can't find confirmation of platforms. We assume that it's coming to PlayStation 4, but we'll update this article as soon as we know for sure.

I think it would be better served as an expansion.
Oof, pretty strong from Blizz so far, despite it coming off as damage control. I have to say, the improvements are looking great and the PvE looks fun af.
@AdamNovice I know what you mean but to be fair, I paid about £16 for the hundreds of hours I put into OW and we don't know how many changes they're making behind the scenes. I'd pay a decent amount given how much I know I'll play it.
@AdamNovice
It would go against the promise of no paid DLC for Overwatch 1.
However, all of the Heroes, maps, and modes from 2 will be free in 1, and all the achievements and cosmetics earned in 1 carry over to 2, along with every one of those heroes, maps, modes, etc.
You're paying for the PVE, upgraded engine, and visual enhancements.
It essentially is an expansion, but not in name.
EDIT: Also there's cross play between 1 and 2.
surely given the kind of game it is all this could have been added to the original game as paid DLC or an expansion? did it really need to have a sequel?
Updated with PS4 confirmation.
this seems so stupid and unneccesary... why not call it a "mission pack" why call it OW2?! Confusing.
Finally a storymode. 😭
Time to get Overwatch 2.🤓
A-mei-zing! Day 1
The characters and stories in this game are so good. Still waiting for Blizzard to make full feature length Overwatch movie.
I think it's better for service games to release one for each generation, make the game ps5 only so it will have better graphics and feature because it's designed exclusively for nextgen system.
