It’s old news now, but Bluepoint Games has been tasked with creating a massive title for the PlayStation 5 – and many believe it will be a Demon’s Souls remake. This game, according to president Marco Thrush, will become the studio’s greatest achievement to date – an impressive feat when you consider that the Texas team has touched acclaimed PlayStation 2 title Shadow of the Colossus twice.
“There’s no question in our minds that our current project will become the achievement we’re most proud of,” the executive teased as part of an interview with Segment Next. Unfortunately, he stopped short of sharing further details, stressing that all will be revealed when Sony’s ready to talk about it. You’ll have to sit tight until that PS5 reveal event, then – it’s going to be huge.

i just hope they dont ruin Miyazaki's masterpiece..
What if it's not just a remake? What if it's...a sequel?
What if it isnt Demon Souls and its Syphon Filter? Or Ico?
@Nyne11Tyme Syphon Filter would be incredible. I doubt it’s that, unfortunately. I just want a proper stealth game again like the original Splinter Cell trilogy.
It makes people angry but I truly hope whatever they are working on is NOT Demon Souls. I’d rather they be working on a new IP actually. I’ve played and beat Demon Souls years back and don’t understand the love for it.
@OmegaStriver - Totally agree. I'd love to see DeS get a remake on PS4 but absolutely not as a PS5 launch title. New machines should be launching with new IP.
My guess is this Demon Souls remake is wrong and Bluepoint is laughing at us. Whatever there making I guarantee is the only big game on launch day.
I hope its Legend of Dragoon or Demon Souls my personal favorite Souls game. I love the central hub and the quirks so much better then any Dark Souls game. 😋
Bloodborne was great though. 😉
I want demon soul with great graphics, few gameplay update and choice of difficulty, give me normal difficulty that respect my time and I'll be there day one
@OmegaStriver I agree. I hope their working on a new IP for Sony, or at the very least remaking something other than Demon Souls.
Yawn, let me know when we actually know what game it is, sick of the teasing, demon souls would be a disappointment.
I still believe it is a remake of Demon’s Souls, but my ultimate wish would be a full remake of Metal Gear Solid!
@Nyne11Tyme I would say there is next to no chance it is an Ico remake. Bluepoint has stated this next project will be by far the largest game they have ever done, and they have already made the Shadow of the Colossus remake, which is a much larger game than Ico.
@DeepSpace5D As Much As I Like Metal Gear Solid That Would Be The Wrong Game To Remake The Original Or Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake Are The Ones That Need a Remake
@Ken_Kaniff @OmegaStriver the have said multiple times that they feel more comfortable making remasters and remakes of existing code rather than developing from scratch, so don't expect a new IP or something like that. With that said, if they're not remaking Demon's Souls would be cool if their new game turned to be a Legend of Dragoon remake.
@pimpjuice well their track record so far has been pretty good
@Ken_Kaniff just curious, what original ips have bluepoint made? I dont know much about them apart from the remakes they have done.
'We [Bluepoint Games] originally remastered Shadow of the Colossus for the PS3 and then remade it for the PS4. It’s the only one we’ve touched twice and to date it is our greatest achievement, so it’s easy to say that is our personal favorite. However, there’s no question in our minds that our current project will become the achievement we’re most proud of.'
So it sounds like being most proud of a project may be referring to a more personal project, like a new IP? Like they are talking about their own baby?
I think if it wasn’t Demon Souls remaster or remake then they would have said so, otherwise it could blow up in their face teasing the PS nation.
@Ken_Kaniff I would think by this point if it were NOT a DeSo remake, we would have heard so directly from Bluepoint or Sony. It would be too big of a disappointment to PS fans otherwise.
@Shigurui You mean like Knack? ;- I just want good games, does it really matter whether they are sequels or new ip's? They both have their place in the industry.
Consoles often do not launch with tons of new IP, and while that would also be nice, some slam dunk winner titles like DeSo would be a very smart move by Sony.
@Areus Those two would definitely be in need of a remake more from a visual standpoint, but Metal Gear Solid put that series on the map. I personally would love to see how amazing it could look with the power of the PS5.
Realistically, any remake from that series is unlikely unfortunately; just a pipe dream of mine.
Shadow of the Colossus 2? That would be quite something as the ps4 remake is one of my favourites of this generation.
Personally speaking I wish it wasn’t a remake of Demon’s Souls but a remake of the brilliant Ico.
My guess it's a remake of souls 1 and 2 and it will be the ps5 launchgame
"And it is with great honor that we are proud to announce... Shadow of the Colossus"
@JohnnyShoulder - Good call, I'd take Knack 3 any day of the week. I actually like those games.
I'm starting to think this isn't Demon's Souls.
What if it's a new IP and they're not just remastering something for once?
Whatever it is, I'm 100% on board after the fantastic PS4 version of Shadow of the Colossus.
In my mind, a remake does not constitute a "massive" title, no matter how good the original may be.
@Paranoimia I agree. What does it say when a remake is "the studio’s greatest achievement to date"?
I can't get excited for this because I'm not into those Souls games.
@Salmonella Depends on the nature of the game, job listings suggested it's more of a "reimagining" then a straight up remake. So whatever it is it's probably following what the original did but gameplay loop and level design might be completely there own.
Bloodborne 2 but using the first game and showing events from a different view point. There can be no other choice.
@Nerdfather1 agreed. I dunno what the hell is wrong with Ubi. Sam Fisher needs to come back OR SONY needs to fill the void.
Would love to try demon souls but my preference would be remake of mgs 1 for konami with bluepoint let loose with the fox engine!!
@ellsworth004 - The only original game from Bluepoint was Blast Factor on PS3, it was average at best.
@FreakerZ - Souls 1 and 2 have already had PS4 remasters, doubtful they'd be done again for PS5.
My money's on Tetris.
@OmegaStriver totally agree. demons' souls remake is the LAST thing we need. the game looks fine on ps3... it only released 10 years ago for christ sakes. a syphon filter reboot would be the first thing on my personal list instead.
If FF7 remake hadn't already been announced, my money would have been on that. But I still want Syphon Filter (It definitely wont be that unfortunately). I don't think Demons Souls is big enough for the circle jerk it's getting. inFamous trilogy [festival of blood] maybe?
I think We're getting trolled hardcore. I think they struck up a deal with Bethesda. Fallout 3 Remastered.
@ellsworth004 They've only done remakes to my knowledge, but their a very talented studio. I feel could be up to the task of creating a new IP for Sony.
Bluepoint has been giving hints on many games... so could the answer be "all of them"? Bluepoint was involved with the multi-franchise Smash-clone, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, on ps3 and vita. So maybe we're getting a new version of this?
@nookie_egg From my research, the Souls series has substantially outsold the Syphon Filter AND Infamous series combined. Therefore, DeSo is certainly not a niche title.
@Shigurui I also think Knack is highly underrated and have enjoyed the series. We DO agree on that!
It's more or less confirmed as demon soul remaster.
There was a Playstation live event that took place a few months ago, and one of the live sony guys dropped a hint regarding the PS5 line up, and was something like "I can't mention what it is, but lets just say the soul still burns brightly with that one..."
I mean, that's pretty damn obvious.
@doctommaso is that the souls series as a whole? (ie including demons. Dark 1 2 and 3, remasters, compete editions, and bloodborne) if so I'm not surprised. I still don't think demons is as big (as in popularity, not scope) a game as people online want it to be but who knows at this point it could be anything. They seem to be making it out to be a massive project which is why I would have gone ff7 if hadn't been announced and developed in house. 🤷♂️.
@nookie_egg I think it’s pretty big. It’s certainly not as big as FF7, but I thought we were comparing it to infamous and syphon filter. And that’s total Souls sales, I don’t think it included BB.
@nookie_egg Okay so it's roughly 34 million copies sold for the entire series (including BB and Sekiro), about 2M of which is DeSo and over 25M of which is Dark Souls 1-3.
Am I the only one who doesn't want their game to be Demon Souls?
Like I would love if they remade GoW trilogy in the same gameplay style as GoW PS4.
