It's a Christmas miracle! Sony has found the goodwill in its collective heart to bless us all with another PlayStation 4 firmware update, 7.02, just in time for the holiday. Unlike the previous patch, this update is mandatory, so you'll have to install it if you want to access network features during the Christmas break.
Firmware update 7.02 is available right now on PS4, and it weighs in at roughly 470MB, which shouldn't take long to download. So, what the heck does this required update do? As Sony itself puts it: "This system software update improves system performance."
God bless us, every one.

Nothing better than an early Christmas present.
Guess I won't need a PS5 with all these performance improving updates 😉
Every time I decide to put the ps4 on there always seems to be a firmware update. Going through a bit of a slump so haven't got round to using it much since I got it.
I’m sure I just did one of these a few days ago? Oh well time for another. I love my PS4, I’m defo keeping it when I purchase the new console next year, I was going to sell it but I simply can’t I’ve way too many things on it to just reset it and sell it cheap. 60 plus games and 💩load of movies. Yep she’s a keeper. 🙂
Yes! The PS4 now performs better than someone who took a year's worth of Viagra in a single dose!
Nice. I suspend a game in rest mode to come back to it the next day only to find that my PS4 needs to restart, & by association, so does my game undoing all of my hard work. Thanks a bunch, Sony.
Darn,I hope this performance boost doesn't come at the expense of any stability!
@Robocod that's what the next update is for..
stability!!! that is what we all need! ❤️
Nah, I will ignored it and skip it.
with these performance updates my ps4 is now worth more than a rolls royce
PS4 feels slower and slower.. and playstation store? Thats hell sometimes.
Maybe they should tell us more about that "performance"
My PS5 is so stable I could stage a nativity in it
My favourite kind of update
Uhm didn't even install 7.01 yet xD
Such a feature drop.
Mmmmm Mmmmm
Have fun kids.
@Sensechat You too, have a good one
@azoreseuropa Then you may never sign into PSN again
Don't eat the figgy pudding.
It crashed my system, like almost every other update, once again it took two attempts to install. Same error
su-30746-0 where I have to physically plug a controller in and restart and redo the update.
@MattyP your own fault for not saving, genius.
@azoreseuropa what part of "mandatory" is eluding you?
After installing, I blue screened twice in 30 mins, ended up doing a defrag to getting it running smoothly. Hopefully nobody else effected,
I wish they at least elaborated on what exactly it's improving in terms of performance. What exactly are we meant to expect from these improvements?
470mb, whilst not huge is still big enough to have done something of significance.
I installed the new update and Trump is still my president. Thank you Sony.
I wish they would just call these security updates rather than performance updates as that's what they are.
All i got after installing it was a message sayin theres been a serious error in the system software now i gotta reinstall the software same thing happend last time and completey wipes the ps4 😡
@Smokeless85 yeah, mine had to rebuild the database too. Luckily no data appears to have been lost but the home screen is super laggy now
I didnt have to rebuid database i had to download the reinstallation of the system software on to a usb then reinstall it on the ps4 coz it completely messed up my ps4 it just kept comin up sayin cannot start ps4 theres been a serious error with the system software so after doin the reinstallation it completely wipes the ps4 so lost alot of my save progress and iv had to download all my games again that were saved on the ps4 hdd lucky enough most of my games are on my external drive
@THGhost

@azoreseuropa And yet here you are, online
