When can you play the Resident Evil Village demo on PS5 and PS4? When will the Resident Evil Village demo be live to play? Capcom has confirmed it will be dropping a playable teaser for the upcoming ninth mainline instalment in its survival horror franchise, so it's understandable that you'd want to know when you can play it. However, the process is anything but simple. In this Resident Evil Village guide, we're going to reveal exactly when you can play the upcoming demo, depending on where you live in the world.
Resident Evil Village Demo: All Times You Can Play
Capcom is giving PS5 and PS4 players early access to the Resident Evil Village demo, but these windows of opportunity are very brief. Before the full demo drops just prior to the full game's launch, you will have 30 minutes to play one chunk of the demo. Then, one week later, the other piece of the demo unlocks and you will once again have 30 minutes to play. The village area is up first, and then it's the turn of the castle. These two areas will culminate in a final 60-minute demo at the very beginning of May, but they'll feature the same content as the two offerings that are half the length.
Resident Evil Village Demo: All Times You Can Play in the USA
The first piece of the Resident Evil Village demo takes place in the village area. You will have 30 minutes to play during the following time slots across the evening of 17th April 2021 through to 18th April 2021.
- 5pm PDT on 17th April 2021 until 1am PDT on 18th April 2021
- 8pm EDT on 17th April 2021 until 4am EDT on 18th April 2021
The second piece of the Resident Evil Village demo takes place in the castle area. You will have 30 minutes to play during the following time slots across the evening of 24th April 2021 through to 25th April 2021.
- 5pm PDT on 24th April 2021 until 1am PDT on 25th April 2021
- 8pm EDT on 24th April 2021 until 4am EDT on 25th April 2021
Finally, these two pieces of the Resident Evil Village demo come together to form a full 60-minute demo one week later. They will still feature the same content, but can be played back to back. You will gain access on 1st May 2021, and the demo will then be available through until the game's launch on 7th May 2021.
- 5pm PDT on 1st May 2021 until 5pm PDT on 9th May 2021
- 8pm EDT on 1st May 2021 until 8pm EDT on 9th May 2021
Resident Evil Village Demo: All Times You Can Play in the UK and Europe
The village area plays host to the first chunk of the Resident Evil Village demo. Granting exactly 30 minutes of playtime, you can play during the following time slots across the evening of 18th April 2021 through to 19th April 2021.
- 6pm BST on 18th April 2021 until 2am BST on 19th April 2021
- 7pm CEST on 18th April 2021 until 3am CEST on 19th April 2021
Next up will be the castle area as the Resident Evil Village demo continues one week later. Capcom once again places 30 minutes on the clock during these time slots across the evening of 25th April 2021 through to 26th April 2021.
- 6pm BST on 25th April 2021 until 2am BST on 26th April 2021
- 7pm CEST on 25th April 2021 until 3am CEST on 26th April 2021
Eventually, these two pieces of content come together to form a single 60-minute demo. All of the content will be the same, but now you can play it all in one longer session. You will gain access on 2nd May 2021, and the demo will then be available through until the game's launch on 7th May 2021.
- 1am BST on 2nd May 2021 until 1am BST on10th May 2021
- 2am CEST on 2nd May 2021 until 2am CEST on 10th May 2021

I've tried to make this guide as simple and easy to understand as I think I possibly can. If you have any further questions though, feel free to copy me in.
@LiamCroft You deserve an award!
Oh, just release a demo.
Don’t think I need to explain just how ridiculous this approach is. Just release the “full” demo a week early for Playstation (just have the demo account based so once you have used up the 60 minutes then that’s you) then accordingly for other platforms.
If this were a cover-mounted demo disc, it would self-destruct after playing.
Great guide @LiamCroft!
Brilliant strategy from Capcom to generate hype. Sure, it's not simple, but it worked like a charm for Nintendo, and they actually did that with a full release.
What? Well ok but annoying. I will wait until May 2nd.
This is so dumb. Just release a demo for God's sake.
This has to be the dumbest way of doing a demo of all time. It can't be that they think this method will make it a bigger deal, especially when it's already a huge game. A hard pass and I'll just wait for the full game.
Surely there could have been a less convoluted way of rolling this out?
Thats so dumb. I'm away for the second weekend so i guess I'll just wait for the full demo. Better still I'll prob just wait to the game comes out.
So let me get this straight - you can only play these demos when there's a full moon and/or the wind is coming from a south westerly direction ?
Sounds easy enough to me.
@hypnotoad have to wait for the cricket's third chirp and the 2nd hoot of an owl
Maybe I'm stupid but I thought this was a next gen exclusive. I didn't think I could get it on PS4 but I'm glad I can.
@Archius9 on PS4 it’ll be 900P and 45fps, sounds like they wanted to strike a good balance. There’s some gameplay footage on YouTube.
Masterclass from Capcom on how to NOT release a demo.
Round of applause!
Someone somewhere thought this was a great idea. Shew
@J2theEzzo and only then do you get the 2nd 30 min window
There's a gameplay demo on the store right now, is that just a preload?
@Throb Yes, you're pre-loading the full demo. That can then be played at the times listed in the guide.
This is so dumb. Who even thinks of these scenarios? Just release the demo as is or don’t bother releasing it at all.
I'm not even going to bother. My life is busy enough without having to be restricted in this way. Awful idea for anyone with jobs, non gaming partners or kids. Thanks for nothing Capcom.
Ha, usual moaning on here!
It's a FREE demo of a much anticipated game. They don't have to release a demo at all.
Why are modern gamers such whining gits?
🤦
I'll wait until the 2nd of May and play it full. Maybe.
If I cared about this game (and I don't) I'd say ***** it to this demo and wait for the game to come out. Why jump through these hoops if you want to play the game?
I don’t like being told when I can or should play games, I have a life, family etc, I can’t be dictated to when I should have my down time by capcom I’m afraid.
@hypnotoad exactly, but you also need the heart key and two halves of a crest
@Col_McCafferty they don't have to release a demo but they also don't have to do whatever in the world this is.
As an aside, I now know what it felt like for people who didn't care about Cyberpunk when every other news story was about Cyberpunk.
This is so convoluted and dumb.. big pass on this idiocy.
Kind of a middle finger to us Australians, especially those with actual jobs 🙄
I'll be waiting until May 2nd then, good to know!
I play games on my schedule or not at all, the same applies to demos.
Very questionable way to release a demo.
@XanderTigerclaw check the store. Times are 17:00-24:00 for Australia.
Who comes up with this garbage?
Wow that's a bit weird, think I will just wait to get the game few weeks after release, will be picking up returnal when that's released and still got a couple of things to finish so think I can wait a bit for it. Such a stupid idea doing it like this though, why not just release the whole demo and let people enjoy it when they want too.
Ok, I'm not too fond of demos in general and this nonsense only confirms that I will wait for the reviews and then decide whether I'll have it or not and which console I'll play it on.
@Col_McCafferty thank you for saying it and potentially much more politely than I would 🤣
We are not entitled to a demo and if COVID wasn’t around the “early access mode” would have just been something like try it 10 minutes at ComiCon after waiting in line for 1 hour ...
Well, after the most underwhelming "Maiden" demo, which was mind-numbingly boring and also very average visually, I cancelled my pre-order. I will wait for reviews. The file size of the full game is also very concerning.
I think this is really clever. It’s making a demo into an event. I’m literally planning my day around a half an hour gameplay session.
I can see why gamers are annoyed, but I also can see why you’re the gamers and not the marketing team.
@Col_McCafferty Because there's literally no reason to make playing a demo unnecessarily convoluted.
I'd rather play the demo after launch. Your progress doesn't carry over anyway.
@Feena Nah, Capcom had released demos for RE7, RE2 and RE3. So, there's really no "If Covid wasn't around" situation here.
This is dumb, the demo only live at about 7 am in my country, I won’t play games at that time!
@wiiware What you mean you don't plan your life around video games?
@ThroughTheIris56 It’s my breakfast time lol.
@wiiware Oof, it's a bad day if I'm even up at that time.
@XanderTigerclaw Tell me about it lol
Demo was awesome. And maybe the best looking next gen game yet.
Man, I already preordered. No way I'm playing demo for fear of spoilers but mostly fear of buyer's remorse. It's so tempting though.
@Col_McCafferty - Same reason why fewer people are watching TV instead of streaming I guess; they prefer doing it in their own time rather than someone else's (especially if it means having to re-structure your day plan). That said though, I think it's more a case of 'it sounds worse than it is' because if you look at the times for the US and UK/EU, they're actually pretty good, and on top of that, the later combined demo is being made available for almost a week, so it's not like you're gonna miss out entirely (though for some, having to wait 2 weeks is probably not far off).
Personally, I just wish they'd used the US time period for Australia instead of the UK/EU, because then I'd be able to play the two separate demos at a reasonable time (10am-6pm), as opposed to a completely ridiculous time (3-11am).
I found the first demo intriguing. 45 FPS with RT on is surprisingly smooth. The environments looks crazy good in HDR but some character models are deeply lacking in detail, while others are stunning.
@LiamCroft Thanks for the time you put in it but im damned im going to put effort in playing a demo plus i have to work shifts. 🤪
Hey @LiamCroft, won't you folks post a hands-on article with the demos?
@RenanKJ It's possible, but I obviously won't have played the second half of the demo until next weekend due to the weird timing of it all! And by the that time comes around, I may already have the full game for review.
Thanks, but this is too complicated. I'm not changing or making my schedule for a demo like this.
So...why does the countdown show 1 day 1 hour? Shouldn't it be available today too?
I've already seen enough of the game to know that I will be getting it eventually, so demo or any other media regarding the game for me.
You forgot that you need to pat your head 3 times, while doing a spin on your right hand and saying bloody marry in the mirror or the demo wont work.
I played the demo and the vampire enemies are not quite as good compared to the lycans. They feel more like your regular zombies compared to the lycans where they're more agile and it's harder to hit their head. Playing RE8 kinda makes me wish for the toughness of the RE2RE zombies.
@awp69 what? I was playing this on my PS5 and the foliage and terrain literally looked like they where 15 years old! Even the enemies looked and behaved clunky. I didn’t manage to complete the 30 minutes. I probably missed the best part then...
Demo was solid. This is definitely the spiritual sequel to RE4, complete with coin drops when you defeat enemies and a campy shopkeep. Only criticism so far is that I wish there was a dodge mechanic like in RE3make, given the increase in combat. 🤷🏻♂️
I find this idea as tiring as when Capcom releases Street Fighter X5 Super Duper Q Mode.
Just release a ***** demo, then the game. Stop ***** around.
Demo was absolutely fantastic. Loved every minute of what I’ve played so far. Visually, it’s very appealing and the gameplay is fun. Love how the game feels with the dualsense. The atmosphere is indulgent too, in the best possible way. Cannot wait til the 7th!
Just done the castle demo really excited for the game now it was so good plays really well on my PS4 pro
@Nepp67 I didn't really like the werewolf enemies much preferred the enemies in the castle demo
@Would_you_kindly If they were more tougher I'd enjoy them more, but they just weren't. They were your average zombies with weapons.
What a waist of 8 gigs..I'll wait on the full game I guess. I down loaded the demo last night and was greeted with a message stating I had to wait a full week to play it, pre-order or watch the trailer. This seems very counter productive but whatever I guess.
@Nepp67 those werewolves are complete bullet sponges think it took like 3 shotgun blasts to take one down when I played the village demo where as the vampire types I could kill with one shotgun blast or like 3 or 4 headshots with the handgun
@Would_you_kindly Yeah that's not really bullet spongey and that's how it should be, they're lycans not weaklings.
An 8 hour window 6pm - 2am on a Sunday really is complete BS.
Capcom: Anyone with a life can kindly F**k off and wait!
Damn it, I missed the time slot...
So I guess I downloaded nearly 10GB for no bloody reason 🙄
Delete.
No point waiting 5+ days to try again, I might as well just wait for the full game...
Very silly decision to limit the times we can play.
Just download demo can’t play until tomorrow
Got up this morning will give this demo a try.
What a confusing way to post a demo, in two parts and times etc.
So now instead of being excited I’m deflated.
Sometimes I think developers PR teams must have literally no common sense or pro active PR
The thought process of these individuals or team must just by pass PR and quality of live engagement.
The game will have to be super exceptional and draw me in like resident evil 4 for me to purchase at all now.
