Much to the disappointment of weirdos who play Like a Dragon games with English voices (we're just joking!), Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name didn't feature an English dub option when it released last month. However, developer RGG Studio was quick to promise that English voicework would be added via a post-launch update — and that update's coming very soon. It's dropping at some point in December, and we're getting more info on it in the near future.
For a long time, English dubs were unheard of in the Yakuza Like a Dragon series. It was only with kind-of-spinoff title Judgment that the option to switch spoken language was added, and then Yakuza: Like a Dragon featured the series' biggest English dubbing project to date. Its upcoming sequel, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, will also boast English voices — but specific casting choices have proven controversial.
Indeed, voice actor and YouTuber Yong Yea was revealed as the new English voice of longtime franchise protagonist Kazuma Kiryu earlier in the year, and what little we've heard of his performance has been enough to draw plenty of ire from some Like a Dragon fans. Seeing as Kiryu is the sole star of Like a Dragon Gaiden, it'll be interesting to see what people make Yea's take on the iconic lead.
Have you been waiting for the English Gaiden dub? Shame yourself (again, just joking) in the comments section below.

Nah fam I'm good
Won't be using it anyway, these games don't sound right in English regardless of the quality of the dub and I can't imagine that ending being anywhere near as impactful with it
Yong won't get too much praise for this;)
That's a YongNo from me.
I loved the English dub in Yakuza 7 Like a Dragon, but unfortunately the casting will make me switch back to Japanese for future games. I don't get it as the English VO for Kiryu in 7 was perfectly fine. Its a shame I'm really gonna miss Kaiji Tang as Ichiban. He crushed that role.
No idea why would want this, but hey, options are good I guess. I'll just stick to the Kiryu I know and love.
As yongyea would say, yongyea out.
Cause this ain't it lmao
I’ve played all the mainline Yakuza games with subtitles, but I tried Yakuza: Like a Dragon and the Judgment games with English dubs and enjoyed them that way.
Then I tried the demo for Infinite Wealth and oh boy. Kiryu as a nasal-voiced whiner just doesn’t work. Back to subtitles, then.
Only time ive used the english dub was in the judgements. Mainly because alot of it is about law and id rather follow that in english. Having completed and platinumed Gaiden tho i really think yong will struggle with scenes particularly at the end.
@carlos82
That ending legitimately broke me. Just top tier acting and animation work. I haven't been hit in the feels like that in a long time!
What's sad is his biggest role he was the wrong va for but yong is an actual good actor which makes this even worse
Yong's got range. It's weird that the the people in charge of directing the dub wouldn't give him notes to modulate his voice to be less nasal. I switched to dub for 7, and wanted to continue, but after finishing the man who erased his name and playing the demo for 8 in English, I think I'll return to original vo.
It's a shame because I'm sure he could have pulled it off with the right direction. I'm happy to see Asians getting more vo roles both as Asian and non Asian characters.
Appreciate the gesture, but it's not the Kiryu I've been partying with since 2008, so I'll pass.
it's Amazing with English Dub, it's like watching a dubbed Japanese Anime in English (hell No!)
Ironic that the majority of those who complain about the English VAs only play in Japanese anyways.
That's a no for me dawg.
Stop wasting money sega.
