Last week, we brought you word that Bill actor Nick Offerman had already pitched the prospect of a The Last of Us HBO spin-off, one following Bill and Frank, specifically. Well, showrunner Craig Mazin has doused any hope of that happening, definitively stating: "There won't be more Bill and Frank."
Mazin made the comments to Deadline (thanks, Eurogamer), explaining that Offerman had just been joking, no doubt riding high following the actor's Emmy win. It's not that the idea of a mini-series looking at their lives before meeting is a bad one per se; instead, Bill and Frank's story has already been told in the context of the show: "I'm very proud of the episode we did with Bill and Frank. We are very happy with what we achieved."
In other The Last of Us HBO news, the show has cast critical roles, announcing the actors who will play Abby, Dina, and Jesse. The Last of Us Part II Remastered is now available on PS5, in case you want to relive the story ahead of the show. You can read or watch our full thoughts on the matter in our review.
Are there other spin-offs you'd like to see HBO explore? What about a Black Mirror-style anthology of episodes looking at the stories of unseen survivors, like Ish from the first game? Tell your own tale in the comments section below.

Let’s just focus on making Season 2 good, yeah?
I hope we get more Abby and less Joel in season 2.
Good. It was a terrible idea to begin with. There was way too much that was omitted in the games that didn’t make the cut over that episode. 1 episode was more than enough
Good if we get any spinoffs , it needs to be new characters and hopefully in a different country, Japan would be cool .
Tbh I’m glad lol that one episode said enough about the characters, we didn’t need more
Who else thinks they will deviate heavily from how TLoU2 game played out?
@OmegaStriver I think so too. But it would be interesting to see how fans of the show who’ve not played the game react to the way it happens if they stay true to the source material.
@AhmadSumadi I will be absolutely shocked if big changes don’t occur.
It doesn’t need a spin off.
The episode was well filmed and told their story.
I'm calling it now: Joel won't die. Or if he does, they will change how it happens considerably. They was too much out of character idiocy that went into the original set up.
And i think that is why they have casted an Abby who clearly isn't built the same.
@CWill97 Agreed. A Joel and Ellie spin off would be nice.
Could've gave them a 2 hour special 😉
Good, would be entirely pointless and totally spoil what was a great episode. I'm all for more The Last Of Us. But just make something original in that universe if you have to, something based on maybe the rise of WLF.
Nick Offerman's comments didn't make sense to begin with. The series already covered a high-level overview of their timeline, as well as the beginning and end. The only things that could be added would be events prior to their meeting (which wouldn't make sense for a Bill and Frank spinoff, to never have them together, and in reality probably would have to be cast as younger versions) or during their stay (which also doesn't work, because we've seen the majority of the big events, and their lot being designed as a relative fortress to the zombie outbreak would lose all logic if they were under attack multiple times). Better to leave it as it was. You can tell Offerman loved filming it, but he clearly isn't aware there's nothing in that universe to expand the character
@Drago201 they did, it's called brokeback mountain
@Deljo lolz that was actually a good movie 😉
Good news. I'd hate to see TLoU go the way of The Walking Dead.
No lose, let's have a good season 2, and show more Abby, I want to see her gym routine 💪
Good news for a change ,love the girl who's playing abby, she's fit 😁
@OmegaStriver I hope so ,I cant deal with my partners tears again ,she was distraught ,I played that part before her ,and then watched with a smirk and evil in my eyes ,as Joel and Tommy entered that room.
We saw the whole story of Bill and Frank over a beautifully succinct hour-long episode — the last thing I want to see is it painfully dragged out over seven seasons of contrived misery that undercuts what was originally a perfect standalone televisual sidequest.

@Mephisto2869 it reminded me of a post apocalyptic Hallmark movie
@LifeGirl
I know most of the people on this website have probably played the game already, but please consider using the spoiler blocker tool, a warning, a veiled allusion, or something besides just saying it straight up in the first line of your comment. Thanks!

Thank god. The episode was a master class in great story telling and should be left alone.
