As you'll know doubt have seen, the PS5 Pro is official after months of rumours and speculation. Not only do we have information about the souped-up console's enhanced hardware and its price, but Sony has done us the good grace of showing us what the thing looks like. It teased the PS5 Pro's design a few days ago, and now we have a better look at the new machine.
As you can see, the PS5 Pro's design resembles that of the base PS5 very closely. The main body of the console is black and surrounded by white covers, but the Pro bears a few diagonal black lines down either side. It looks pretty sleek, with the lines quite clearly differentiating it from the regular console. It also appears to be slightly larger in size, which we guess makes sense.
The pictures from Sony show the PS5 Pro standing horizontally and vertically. To us, it looks like its design is intended to be displayed vertically, though you'll have to fork out for a vertical stand if you want it in that orientation. Oh, and it's also worth noting the console is compatible with the detachable disc drive; the PS5 Pro won't come with one, so you'll have to buy one separately.

The design is redundant to me after seeing the price sadly.
Instead of one stripe, it’s three stripes. Revolutionary.
Did everyone at PS Towers have a race to see who can write at least one article about the Pro and get it published first?
I'm buying one, the price is what I expected for a niche product that has a cheaper version still being sold.
so same size as the original
Looks like a PS5. Not much else to say.
Can it stand horizontal without an extra stand? I have the original fat and that bad boy is very unstable without it.
Looks oddly enough like a shredder which makes sense considering how much money you throw down the drain when you buy it!
Meh I’ll pass.. save my money for the Switch 2.. thanks tho lol my PS5 works perfectly fine 👍🏻
I mean, it looks nice, but I’ll never know if it goes well with my curtains because I’d have to sell my house to afford it.
Can you expand the memory if you want more than the forced 2tb that comes with it?
so to use it horizontally you don't need a stand? I have my ps5 phat sitting horizontally but it required the included stand for that
@Yousef- to be fair the PS4 Pro was just a thicker PS4 Slim lol
Also is it the same size as the ps5 phat or bigger?
@OldGamer999 externally I'd say yes, like with PS5
@danzoEX you’re right
I think ps5 digital consoles in vertical position looks like a fat and skinny person trying to go on a seesaw together 🤔 😂
@DualWielding @trev666 PS Blog says it's the same height as the OG PS5.
Any idea if it's using the same shoddy plastic kickstand for horizontal mode?
Can't stand the sight of that thing
But... The most advanced games are still on PS4... RDR2 and TLOU2 for instance.
There's nothing on PS5 that tops those... Why in gods name would I ever consider this machine? To play Concord!?
this console will be perfect to play gta6. compared to other consoles.. which will have technical issues...
@johnedwin
We struggle to get games nowadays that can match GTA IV and V technically ON PLAYSTATION 3, but everything besides PS5 pro is gonna have technical issues...?
The problem we have is not powerful enough consoles. The problem we have is unoptimized garbage games that are inferior to even PS3 games. GTA 6 is going to be just fine on PS5
The design is good.
The machine, in itself, seems good.
BUT THAT PRICE IS INSANE !
@DualWielding You can prop it up with a stack of dollar bills.
Each line represents something that Sony's executives were snorting when they priced it.
@OldGamer999
I missed it comes with 2TB. Folks are not really mentioning that, but surely that contributes to the price. With 2TB, I won't need to buy an expansion SSD, which saves me money.
Looks bad and Europeans get f*** twice over. Last time I checked 699$ are 634€. Sorry for the UK gets they get f**** thrice. Screw Sony, I'm investing that money in a handheld PC or the switch 2 instead.
What I want to know is are the covers identical to the slim model's covers? That's the only way there would be a chance that I buy one down the line because I have a slim with the disc drive, and I would want to move the drive over to the Pro and swap the covers so that I could sell my slim as a digital only model.
Never liked the white ps5 (hence the reason I purchased black plates) also didn’t really like the shape or size.
I think it looks crap, just like the slim and standard one. Probably the ugliest PS generation. Though that PS3 Super Slim was damn ugly too.
I've always liked the PS5's design. The black interior and white shell was always unique looking for a console. I even have the Splatoon Switch OLED and the white dock looks really nice.
I think the next time I build a new PC, I may go for a white case, cause it's nice and really brightens the space up a bit more.
Looks as nasty as the original design
Is it though? Looking sleek I mean …
I’m not a fan of the original design tbh. This improves the look of it slightly but it is still obnoxiously big and impractical. Personally id be happy with an unassuming box which takes up minimum space in my tv unit, is easy to move and doesn’t require a stand….especially if that stand is sold separately. Xbox consoles have PS beat on design this gen for my personal tastes.
Sleek? It's ugly as sin, and at that price, not for me.
I dislike the PS5 and its design - that includes the 'original' as well as its redesign. I knew that this console would not be $600 or less - with a Disc Drive as they can't reduce the PS5 to $300 - the price point of Consoles before the advent of 'Pro' Premium consoles around $500
There is no way I'd pay more than $500 for a Console that doesn't exactly have any games I can't play on my PS5 and it seems that I could play at 60fps if I choose with some graphical cutbacks. Although, if it ends up in the bedroom, it will be on a 1080p TV anyway.
The point of a console wasn't to compete with the high-end PC's on graphics and performance - they were meant to be affordable products for mass market access to gaming. This gen, they jumped straight to 'premium' pricing and this is 'PC' pricing to me - and these games will likely release and/or run better on some PC's, especially those with DLSS to rival PSSR.
Each to their own of course, but for me, I can't justify that price, and its not helped by its form factor or lack of Disc Drive to play the PS5 games I have bought for my PS5 just to take the choice between Performance and Quality mode away essentially on games that don't look 'terrible' from normal TV viewing distances and I've never played a '30fps' game from Sony - whether it was Spider-man or Horizon: Zero Dawn on PS4 - or other PS4 era games.
I can wait for the PS6 when it has BC for all the PS4 and PS5 games, many of which will have been 'updated' for first PS5 and now for 'Pro' to - maybe then some of those will be able to run at 'native' 4k and 60fps or even 4k/120fps with AI upscaling....
As ugly as other PS5s.
But for £50 per plate (all 4 pieces sold separately) you can buy black ones that a bit hides PS5 inside shelf.
@Yousef- Playstatiums; they have four stripes instead of three. so for less money, I was able to get extra stripe. isverygooddeal.
Worth mentioning to all those picking up on the GBP to USD parity, the USD price does not include any purchase tax. The GBP price includes VAT.
I'm not fussed about the vertical stand. The horizontal one that comes with it is probably as bad as the original but I don't move my PS5 around, so doesn't really matter.
Still too expensive for me to justify buying now, unfortunately.
Ribbed for her (gaming) pleasure. 👀😅
should have made it in the image of the original fat ps3; hands down the best looking console i ever seen . especially the silver one
