While previous games in the series have allowed for players' choices, just three from Dragon Age: Inquisition will carry over to The Veilguard. If you never played that game, don't worry; the "Adventurer's Past" feature in character creation will allow you to set the scene quickly. Vague ending spoilers for Dragon Age: Inquisition to follow!
According to an article from IGN (thanks, GamesRadar+), players will be able to "select a few story decisions via Tarot cards". The critical questions The Veilguard asks are whether you chose to disband the Inquisition, decided to save Solas, and perhaps most importantly of all, who your Inquisitor was romantically involved with.
While this is a relatively small list of continuations by the standards of BioWare's previous efforts, that's apparently because the developer would rather ignore your choices than undo them. The Veilguard takes place in Northern Thedas, allowing new audiences to be tempted with a fresh jumping-on point, far away from Ferelden and all the baggage of previous games.
Not much longer to go now; Dragon Age: The Veilguard arrives on PS5 on 31st October. Are you disappointed that more wasn't done to link it to Inquisition, or are you looking forward to a fresh start? Don't say "Dragon Age: Andromeda" in the comments section below.

This whole simplification of battle system, cartoonizаtion of visual style and disregard to the lore is a no go. Also, new Qunari design!
And how is the fact who was PC's love interest is more important if Solas was saved or not?
3 choices that only my inquisition save file can remember that I made. Did i disband? 🤷🏼 solas? Who’s solas. who did I hump? someone with boobs probably?🤷🏻♂️
I should watch a refresher video before I play
Not surprising since the whole trend with these over the years has been towards simplification first and foremost, although I thought Dorian would have some role in this, and potentially the decisions made in Orlais. Let’s see how it goes, but I have so many doubts about this game, which I think should be warranted - BioWare needs to earn back trust in their quality.
A decade later and bioware basically repeats star child and left door right door middle door?
@NEStalgia
That's the state games have been in in the last 10+ years.
@Fartingale
Solas is the most important character in Inquisition.
I mean - what other choices would there be to carry over? I played through Inquisition several times and I'm fairly certain these three are the most important ones.
.... But I better see Dorian again in Veilguard, or Maker so help me..
@Maubari
What about the choices from the first two games?
My cheesy dream would be for Bioware to have a suprise showcase for Dragon Age. Starts with footage from the game we've seen so far, but after a few seconds of gameplay a deep laughter starts interrupting the video.
The footage fades away as some epic metal music amps up and a platform rises up two guys wrapped in shadow. Some pyrotechinc awesomness light up the stage and it's revealed that the two guys are the dynamic Doc-duo Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk.
They announce that they've bought back the company from EA as the crowd goes wild. On a screen behind them we see the EA logo on fire as our boys start to speak.
"Did you really think the safe, quirky, weak ass hack'n'slash casual slop of Veilguard would be our next game?" They both laugh as they in unsion say "F**ck no! Here's the real Dreadwolf."
Then we see glimses of terrifying demons before they show us tactical gameplay, deep rpg mechanics, grounded companions and a taste of the difficult chioces we would have to make on our journey.
Ah well, a man can but dream. 😋
@LuXifer
Epic metal music and pyrotechnics sounds like casual slop to me...
@Yagami
BioWare games never had a strategic gameplay, it was tactical.
@Yagami
No, they are not.
Makes sense, all other decisions in DAI were character centric or not related to the area in Thedas this game is set in
@Chupa_loyzer probably because the Inquisitor could romance Solas if they were an Elf and apart from being heartbreaking the relationship featured a lot important info about the elves past and their so-called Gods
@Yagami It is what it is. It's not what I'd want in a DA game. But as we can clearly see, DA is a lot of different things to different people. Let's just hope they can finish the story with some competence.
@Chupa_loyzer Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. 😁
@LuXifer
I am performing a civil hiring of you. Let's worry about litigation another day, start working on the title asap!
The combat system just is Inquisitions with a new UI that's it and I hated that a out Inquisition the combat system was boring. Then on top of that each character did the same moves their was no variation at all so I gave up on the game
"Hey gamers, I know you've spent the last 15 years building your world within Dragon Age, but none of that matters, play our new Fortnite skinned version!"
@Yagami
I suggest you look for the differences between these two words to properly understand their meaning.
@EfYI Hehe, sure thing. I'll just send EA an email proclaiming the congressional "you-suck-therefore-we-own-the-IP-now" enactment of 1876 and get right to work. Just need to look under the sofa cushions for some funds first. 😅
@CrashBandicoat
Hot take!
@LuXifer. Nice Lebowski reference, man.
"Every single movie is completely disconnected and doesn´t share anything but maybe the basic setting".
As a lifelong Star Wars fan you just described exactly what I want more of in that franchise. More stand alone stories, no Skywalkers, no Jedi, you have a universe with literally infinite stories to tell, use that opportunity. That's why Andor was such a breath of fresh air.
I loved the first Dragon Age game but after that my interest started to dwindle. Inquisition was ok but that's all it was. This being said I think I'm willing to give this one a chance.

There's actually a secret fourth question before these three being "Am I going to play this?" to which most people have already checked off "NO".
From the first gameplay video my interest in this game died down instantly. The more recent clips didn't rectify that, a shame really.
This whole game is nothing but watered down, dumbed down, simplified lazy slop designed for the imaginary "modern audience" and the Fortnite crowd.
I do hope we get to see Sara in the game. Probably the best character for me(and always my romance option in Inquisition).
Kind of a shame it's only 3 decisions that carry over but hopefully the story for this is good. Cautiously Optimistic.
I am hoping that we see Cassandra, Leliana, Commander Cullen, Iron Bull and Dorian at least. Maybe one of them is a DLC character because knowing Bioware, this game will have a few expansions and maybe a character like 2 of the 3 games have had.
But will my Champion of Kirkwall be alive?
@ApostateMage Does that really affect you? It’s a bit much sure but like all other OPTIONAL things in life you can just look the other way, it’s one toggle in a menu with hundreds of customisation choices.
Can we stop this brainless drivel where everything has to be “pandering DEI nonsense” or “based anti woke”
I assure you people who constantly cry about things being woke are just as embarrassing and cringe worthy as those “woke” people to begin with.
Bro how am I supposed to remember this?
@DonJorginho
So in the end you agree that woke is cringe.
I played and Platinumed all three Dragon Age games. I can't remember what I did in Inquisition ... But as always this kind of stuff is fluff anyway it's not really going to have a massive impact on the story, it never does.
I am still on the fence about the game, I can't get the first trailer with the elf jumping out of the vale like a fortnite character out of my mind. I'll wait and see how it is received, and maybe pick it up later. Larian is a new Bioware for me, I do hope this game turns out well, but something about it feels off.
@Chupa_loyzer The fate of kirkwall, etc? I thought that wouldn't be relevant so far into the future of the franchise; That they rebuild.
Never got far enough into Origins, so I can't judge that one
@Chupa_loyzer both sides are cringe, but if we’re going to cry about one single customisation option in a menu, then we can’t critique in good faith.
So many butthurt comments on here, good lord.
Makes me wonder whether I not I should just stop reading comments all together, considering all that people do is whine, whine, whine. In every. single. article.

@ApostateMage I think it’s a bit much but at the end of the day it doesn’t utilise resources it’s probably the easiest thing in the world to implement and it’s exclusion wouldn’t make any difference to the game and wouldn’t change the perception for most critics online.
It’s just the modern world we live in where companies want to be inclusive and appeal to the widest range of customers possible, and that includes trans people.
I don’t think this game is doing a dustborne or whatever that terrible game was called where it forced itself upon you with its views, this game seems to just be offering a singular option on a customisation menu and isn’t the end of the world for me anyway.
I've played through Inquisition several times and have chosen differently. So I'll just pick whatever I feel like then Veilguard drops. Really looking forward to it.

I didn’t disband, didn’t save Solas, and Cassandra and I fell in love but I remained Inquisitor and she left to join The Chantry. It was a sad goodbye 😢
@Yagami late to the conversation, sorry. Strategy is more so the “planning” side of things. While tactics are more the action that comes from the planning/strategy. They shouldn’t be interchangeable. They’re similar. But not the same.
I don't remember any of those answers. Been so long. Id have to watch some recap videos.
Everything about this game still feels off. I've seen nothing that makes me think it's Dragon Age outside name. I've seen nothing to make me think it looks like a particularly interesting or unique game at all, and the art style looks like some weird mesh of generic fantasy, Fortnite, and Lost in Random, and while the latter is awesome, looks really out of place in a "human world." I really don't know what they did to this game, but none of it seems to gel with itself, the genre, or the series, and on top of that it's another "fight a giant enemy boss with a health bar over it's head game" like 70% of "hyped" games from the past 6 years. Maybe it can surprise, but instead of being disinterested, I nearly look away when they show it.
DA1 (DA:O) was supposed to be the spiritual successor of Baludr's Gate II. We now have BG3, while DA has become....what even is this? A generic boss slasher? Another Soulslite but easier, game? Still can't really tell what it is.
Meanwhile if you go to dragon age keep to customise your inquisition world you are met with a plethora of choices to pick showing what you did in the other games, Failguard is such a sad joke you can tell it wasn't made by the same people, at this point cancel mass effect 4 because it's gonna be trash.
I'll play when it's on ea play and I'll play it like i played until dawn going out of my way to ruin everything because i sure won't be immersed in this Fortnite looking game, 2024 and they can't even make the city the game is set in an open world despite being AAA company.
I don't like it.
I care about my "baggage" and i dislike that it gets ignored. I truly liked my Gray warden from origins and even though he survived and had a child with Morrigan, he was reduced to one letter in inquisition.
I would love to know what he is doing and for him to make an appearance.
I don't enjoy just being handed a new cast at every entry and ignore everything that happened before.
I believe that is why mass effect was successful and why dragon age is disjointed.
I will get in in 5 years when it is super cheap. I just realized I didn’t finish 2 or inquisition.
Well, that really sucks. Feels like all the years of story were essentially tossed out the window. Skepticism increasing again…
@Loamy
How would you properly represent physically or mentally handicapped people without causing outrage? Would they have penalties to their attributes and/or will certain classes be unavailable to them?
@Loamy
But if it's just visual doesn't it mean it's fake?
@CrashBandicoat I don't know how but I also quit in the Hinterlands it just gets so boring and the maps are all stupid and you have to go around this big thing to get there if their isn't a camp near
@Fartingale Your username made me chuckle. 🤣
