Indiana Jones PS5's Physical Release Will Require an Internet Connection 1

In apocalyptic news for those concerned about game preservation, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will require an Internet connection – even if you purchase the physical PS5 release, due out on 17th April.

Small print for the game’s Collector’s Bundle – which includes the Premium Edition version of the game alongside an actual globe – notes that an “Internet connection [is] required to download the game and content”.

This implies to us, as rumoured, that while the physical edition includes a Blu-ray disc, the game isn’t included on it – or at least not all of it, anyway. We’ll double-check with Bethesda to see if this is the case.

Considering this is a traditional single player experience without any live service hooks, this strikes us as unacceptable. While we appreciate patches and content updates often require a download, there’s no reason for the campaign to not be included on the disc. If the file size is too large, then we’ve seen various examples of titles shipping on two Blu-rays, like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Obviously, the world is gradually moving closer to an all-digital future, but if publishers still want to sell physical then they could at least do the bare minimum and include the full game on the disc.

This isn’t acceptable, Microsoft!
