Ben Starr, a rising star in the world of video game voice-acting who we've long warned has his sights on taking Troy Baker's place, is back at the behest of his overlords at Square Enix. In a hilarious video, Starr makes light of himself, recommends excellent RPGs, and proves his video game bona fides by having the same unflinching answer as this scribe to the age-old question: Which Final Fantasy is best?
Starr, who voices protagonist Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy XVI, recommends a bunch of wonderful RPGs from publisher Square Enix that, coincidentally, just so happen to be on sale until 26th March on the PS Store.
Declaring that Lulu from Final Fantasy X is "hot" and confirming that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is, indeed, "peak", we can't help but nod along with the words Starr says, and yes, perusing the list of games Square Enix has on sale, despite owning the vast majority of them. Along with Luke Dale inhabiting the role of Hans Capon, are we entering a bold new era for video game marketing?
What do you think of this bold piece of marketing from Square Enix, harnessing the raw power of Starr to do so? What is it about the British accent that makes one sound so knowledgeable and authoritative? Do yourself a favour and fire up Final Fantasy VIII before venturing into the comments section below.

I'd take any RPG with good ideas in it for mechanics over story, what level design is like, then just whatever is a popular easy to pick RPG. What suits not what to market to players.
But whatever works I guess. A fair thing to see here though regardless.
It's interesting marketing to say, we offer these games we make, here is what each offers so you know what you may be into, of mechanics, storyline, worlds, etc. but in a more well easy to understand way as who advertises mechanics no one does. So I seek them out.
But besides that fair marketing I think to really showcase their games but in a more refreshing way. It's fairly balanced of game showcasing (not completely gameplay) but even still that and the actor saying their parts/on screen. It's a good mix and it's very good personality in the ad/video. I like it.
But people knowing what they want is a challenge to appeal to sometimes. People that analyse know what they want. People that don't just buy into anything by hearsay.
I see Benjamin M. Starr and I click, watch then buy every game he mentions. It’s that simple
This is genius marketing 👌🏻 Suprised to see something like this from Square Enix. Let's hope the sale meets their sales expectations...
And yea, the Clive Rosfield dude is hilarious 🤣
Turned on my TV to watch it on YT w/ my wife.
Funnily enough, my wife and I were discussing at lunch what to play next, and Vision of Mana is top on the list. Guess this explains why it's on sale. Need to pick it up quick. $34.99 disc on Amazon, need another penny for free shipping.🤑
But funnier than that, currently watching my kid play FF8 Remastered or whatever. Not as great as I recall, and my kid refuses to play triple triad, but it's still good. And my crush on Rinoa has not diminished.😊
Edit: It was a fun 5 minutes, my wife said he's attractive, but I don't think he's quite up there with Baker yet as far as being in everything. Could happen, but not yet. As long as it takes games to release these days it could take him another 10 years to do as many iconic characters.
Now waiting for the inevitable Square Enix release: this marketing campaign did not exceed our sales expectations. We are now putting games in Tesla's as part of our "aggressively Multi platform strategy"
I’m not the target audience for this type of marketing as this would make me not want to buy these games. But I haven’t meshed with Squaresoft’s marketing since they made commercials for FF7 and this isn’t marketing to make me a fan of Squeenix now. But more power to them.
Real ones remember Ben from that fairly rubbish Sky show where he was bonking the blonde one off Waterloo Road and Abubakar Salim was a slave.
Waiting for Square to advertise FFXIV by getting Johnathan “that bloke from Bridgerton” Bailey to do full G’raha Tia cosplay to camera. That would increase a couple of demographics.
Humour is always subjective but I thought this was great. Brilliant advertising.
@nessisonett Almost forgot about Jamestown, it really wasn't very good, but I still watched most of the first season.
Ben Starr is becoming a national treasure and needs to be protected at all cost.
I adore Ben Starr and his unabashed love for Final Fantasy VIII.
This is really, really, really cool!! And he was on point, as my next big game is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth!!
@CWill97 Hahaha yes, he's my favorite VO now.
So mostly ports and remakes from the glorious Squaresoft days 😏. He seems like a great passionate guy and a real fan of games. This video just reminded me on how many games I still need to add to my collection.
This was a very cute video. I didn't buy anything because of it so I don't know if it succeeded, but it was an enjoyable five minutes of a silly man doing a silly thing.
I love this dude. So glad he's getting the shine he deserves. Seems like a genuinely cool guy that'd be a blast to be around. Great VA too.
We could use a young Matt Berry.
