After some third-party clips of filming for Sony and Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda movie adaptation made their way to the Internet over the weekend, the Nintendo Today app has shared the first official shots.
Here are the first three official screens from Nintendo:

As we already know, Link is being played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Son of a Critch, and Pinocchio) while Zelda is played by Bo Bragason (King and Conqueror, The Jetty, and The Radleys). Avi Arid is producing and Wes Ball is directing, with a release date set for 7th May 2027.
Based on the three shots released, Link appears to be wearing a very traditional version of his tunic, rather than the more detailed one we've seen in recent releases like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Do you like the look? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Looks like a fan-made film I would find on Youtube
Licenced game adaption for PS5 should be announced anyday now.
The casting choice for Impa is also really good too FYI!
Link’s lines should all be grunts and yells
The problem with trying to do this in anything other than animation is that Nintendo has never made a realistic looking Zelda game and so seeing this now is super jarring. It doesn't look like any iteration of the franchise. It's weird.
Fallout and The Last of Us work - in part - because they look like the games just with real people. This looks like when you see a cosplayer doing a photoshoot in a field with plastic swords.
Is this Link & Zelda based on BotW?
Obviously no actors / actress who can perfectly match Link androgynous face or Zelda pretty face. But i think they looks pretty good in that shot.
But honestly, i'm more interested if they make a Metroid movie. Of all Nintendo IP's, Metroid is the only one that i really want to see on the big screen.
The only way this could've worked in my eyes is a Ghibli-esque animated film. As others have pointed out - it's just going to look like an expensive fan-film with everyone in cosplay.
Also, it has the writers of Rise of Skywalker, Project Adam, Jurassic World: Dominion, and Pacific Rim: Uprising.... so make of that as you will.
@PuppetMaster I think it'll definitely draw mostly from BotW. I mean this film wouldn't even be happening if it wasn't for that game's insane popularity - catapulting the series way more into mainstream the spotlight than it was before. A shame, cos it's actually one of my least favourite Zeldas.
great choice.
@JB_Whiting Majora's Mask >>> the rest of the franchise.
@Oram77 There is no other game that for me transports the feeling of sadness so well as Majora‘s Mask. Incredible what they made in less than two years.
@JB_Whiting I see. Their clothes looks similar from BotW.
I never played BotW so i can't comment if it's a good game or not. But i've played and finished Ocarina of Time and A Link Between Worlds which i like both of them. I also played a bit of Minish Cap, loves the cute 2D sprite.
Should have been animation from the start. Better yet, from Japanese studio like Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
@johncalmc what about Twilight Princess?
Won't know until I see the film, but in terms of looks they fit. Zelda and Impa especially, but Link is a better match than I thought from his headshots.
Looks like the photographer bumped into a couple of kinky cosplay types up the lakes
@charbtronic
Please provide a link to the YouTube that you mentioned.
People already writing the movie off based off 3 screen shots...... I can't man
They couldn't find a kid with bigger eyes to play Link? 👀
I just hope that the creatives at Nintendo are watching this project very closely. Knowing how careful they are with their IP gives me some faith that this might turn out alright.
Yep they look like Link and Zelda to me, no complaints at all.
Not the biggest LoZ fan but wow, I'm already impressed with how both of them look.
Not bad, honestly. They could have done a lot worse.
The rest of the crew (writers, producers etc) is more worrying though.
@Oram77 lame, I wrote it off even before that.
@Dalamar Good for you
The casting looks good to me but can’t help think animation would have been better for this. Though what do I know?!
I personally think it looks good. The actors look decent and the costumes don't look cheap.
I think they're going to need to touch up the backgrounds to make it feel more Hyrule, though.
This movie is gonna be awful but should be fun to watch and laugh with a group. Plus it's Zelda. One of my favorite ips, despite the less than stellar switch gen it had. I still look forward to it the way I do the sonic movies lol
Nope, I’m out. I just can’t with this whole thing. Zero need to see Link and Zelda as pouting Hollywood teens. Buh-bye..
Looks more 'Zelda' than I thought it would. The recent Galaxy trailer actually got me more excited for Nintendo's cinematic future. Hopefully this is good and Sony Pictures establishes itself as a strong partner, and we can fast track to live-action Metroid and Sony Pictures Animation Splatoon.
@Dalamar Trigger would not be a good fit for Zelda.
Love their work, but it's a completely different vibe.
I don’t see the issue tbh, they look perfectly fine.
The usual crying babies I guess 🤷🏻♂️
@RoomWithaMoose definitely not Trigger, I don't even like their original works, but someone like P. A. Works could do magic with Zelda.
I’ll watch it 🤷🏾♂️
I don’t need my mind to be blown in order for me to be entertained.
I think the costuming looks fantastic!
first comment summed my thoughts up rather nicely xD
@Judal27 Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are the two best selling Zelda games of all time and critically acclaimed. Saying the Switch gen for Zelda was less than stellar is crazy talk lol.
Personally I would have preferred it in the cgi style of Mario movie, but, hope it turns out good either way
@Oram77 I mean you only have to look at the writers and the studio (Sony; not known for quality filmmaking for the most part), and Avi Arad as producer (one of the stinkiest resumes around).
So you'll have to forgive some of us if we don't have a whole lot of faith. Only upside is Wes Ball as director; Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was pretty good.
@TruestoryYep not a fan of how they did open world for Zelda, and much less a fan of how they did both the remake of LA and Zeldas 1st-ish outing and the ugly toy graphics they used for both. So that really only left me the Skyward Sword remaster which was amazing. So I'd definitely say it was less than stellar
I hope they go radical on us and Link doesn't have any actual line but only grunts his way through the whole thing.
Hard pass, thanks.
I’ll go and see since Sony dropped that man hunter as Zelda
@Oram77
Just the usual miserable middle aged edge lords
@Judal27 lmao tears of kingdom and bow sold like hot cakes
Willing to give Nintendo and Sony the benefit of the doubt here. Nintendo is so risk-averse to non-gaming utilization of their properties that I’m sure they’ve extended a lot of trust to Sony for this one. Which… all of this is still weird to say 🤣
Honestly looks pretty good. I see the vision. Obviously can't say how the final product will turn out but for a first look I think it's promising.
@Slayer25c ok? What of it 😭
as a guy that play since the first one on the release days: Its better be GOOD!!!! Otherwise...... ^$#@$^$@@
It’s…fine, I guess? Honestly the whole thing baffles me a little bit. Might be a spicy take but honestly I’ve always thought the plot of basically all the Zelda games has been pretty rubbish, so I don’t really see how a film is going to work. Like, would you make it super arty and minimal, or are they going to add a load of stuff that just doesn’t generally happen in the games to pad it out? Is it going to be a bit Indiana Jonesish with a focus on exploring trap-laden locations with big set pieces? I say this as a fan of the games, no shade intended, but to me it’s always been a series about mechanics, gameplay and puzzles - not plot. But hey, interested to see what happens either way.
It's so weird how they didn't go with animation despite the Mario movie doing extremely well for them.
Link looks like a younger Heath Ledger from A Knight's Tale.
I have a bad feeling about this...
@Nepp67 Exactly this is where these properties always fail. Games are animated games not reality. I would argue The Last Of Us and possibly Fallout for casting are the only exceptions. It's going to be crap I'd like to be wrong but would bet wonga on it.
I'm kind of excited for this to be honest! Live action is a huge risk and I think a TV show would've been better suited, but I can't see Nintendo letting this be *****.
Very very different scenarios but Detective Pikachu and the Mario movie (newer one obviously) were extremely fun to watch. Detective Pikachu was actually a pretty dark film but they absolutely nailed everything. Mario was a fun goofy film that actually was well paced, had a lot of cool scenes, and the animation was awesome. And those movies are total opposites of each other so it shows whatever hand Nintendo is using to drive the creative stuff works well!
@ButterySmooth30FPS throughout the games it’s clear that Link actually talks, at least occasionally, just that we as gamers never get to hear it.
So the right adaption for the movie would be the same, various of clever/silly ways for us to not hear what Link said, and everyone else responding to him.
@Jeaz "What's that, Link? You found a new temple?" nod
