Sony appears to be offering discounted PS Plus subscriptions to users cancelling their membership in protest.
While this is likely an automated system – and appears to be distributed on a case-by-case basis – several users on Reddit have reported receiving the offers after attempting to quit the service, as spotted by PSLS.
Many feel that the best way to “attack” the platform holder after its decision to cease manufacturing physical games is to stop spending money, and so some have been cancelling their PS Plus in protest.

But as mentioned above, some have received discounts of up to 50% if they stay.
To be fair, this is a common tactic employed by subscriptions to keep users engaged – I’ve seen similar things on Patreon over the years, where attempting to cancel nets you a discounted month or two.
In this case, selected users cancelling annual subscriptions appear to be eligible for a discount of anywhere from 25% up to 33%. Meanwhile, three-month memberships are getting offers of up to 50% off.
Deals for existing PS Plus subscriptions are scarce, because Sony tends to favour new or lapsed members with promotions like its Days of Play.
Obviously if you are protesting, then you probably shouldn’t take advantage of these deals anyway, as it’s still going to result in you giving money to PlayStation.
But if your subscription is due to lapse and you’re looking for a cheaper way to renew, it might be worth attempting to cancel first, and seeing if you get offered one of these deals to stick around.
