We sit firmly on the "Love the idea" side of the fence, but not everyone agrees. We'd argue that improving the performance of classic PlayStation titles, while adding in new features such as 3D, PlayStation Move and trophies makes the repackaged releases worthwhile; but we appreciate people are worthy of their opinion. And to those people, we'd plead you stop being so vocal, enjoy your PlayStation 2 games and let the rest of us enjoy these re-releases. Because we want more of them.
Hot off the press of JeuxVideo are two pack-shots for a couple of rumoured collections. The often-discussed Mortal Kombat HD Arcade Kollection (which has our pulse racing at the mere mention of it) has been given some pretty professional looking boxart treatment, and looks official to us. From what we can decipher from the boxart, the collection appears to boast the original Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. The package also appears to include a demo for the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot. Sold, sold, sold.
The other boxart is also for a rumoured Prince Of Persia collection. That includes the Sands Of Time trilogy, and like Mortal Kombat, will be playable in 3D.
Previous leaks suggest a Splinter Cell and Rayman collection is also looking likely - and this opens the door for many more in the future. Sony's already supported the idea of re-releasing classic PlayStation 2 franchises with the Team ICO, God Of War and Sly Cooper Collections. We're sure Ratchet and Jak compilations will follow.
If third-parties are on board, this opens the door to a wealth of PlayStation 2 content, and if Sony are smart could become somewhat of a trump card for the PlayStation 3 going forward.
So what other collections would you like to see? We're gunning for a complete Metal Gear Solid package.
