"Great," we thought to ourselves, "This 'lie-in' lark we've got going on has caused us to miss the biggest announcement of the year." After imploring some followers to get us up to speed, it turns out we didn't really miss much at all.
Here's the gist of things: Engadget's uploaded a picture of what they claim to be the PlayStation Phone. It looks like a PSPgo, just with Sony Ericsson written on it. It has a touch-pad in the centre of the device (presumably to replace analogue nubs) and a multi-touch enabled screen. Apparently it's pretty tech heavy too, boasting a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655, 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and a screen that looks to be between 3.7 to 4.1 inches. That's much more powerful than the current PSP by the way.
The problem is, it's not real. Well not according to Sony anyway. A SCEE representative has told NowGamer that "these images are definitely fake." [Update @ 11:55 - apparently NowGamer are playing silly beggars and have decided to change that quote. They are now reporting that Sony's official response was, "We do not comment on rumour and speculation."]
The most important thing is that the images looks fake. Plus, we swear we've seen the picture before in a NeoGAF thread or something. Make of it what you will, it doesn't look real to us though.
