Shuhei Yoshida: "NGP Is Not Going To Be $599"

With Sony well known for their expensive products, many are wondering just how much the NGP will cost. You can rule out that famous "five-hundred-and-ninety-nine-US-dollars" price point for a start.

“It’s not going to be $599,” Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Game Informer. “From the very beginning of the project — since 2008 — pricing was one of the considerations that we had. Hopefully when we announce the price, people will see the proper value."

Shuhei's pricing comments were supported this morning by SCEE boss Andrew House. He told Eurogamer that the device would be "affordable".

“I can’t put a ballpark on it in terms of figures, but what I would say is that we will shoot for an affordable price that’s appropriate for the handheld gaming space,” House said.

We probably won't get a price until E3, but we're expecting it to be in the $250-$300. If Sony really wants to rock the boat then they will go for price-parity with the Nintendo 3DS.
