PushSquare's Most Anticipated Overlooked PlayStation Games Of Holiday 2011: #2 - GoldenEye 007: Reloaded.

While we keep up to date with the release schedule and details of competitive platforms, we never really get the time to play them any more. When your work includes knowing everything there is to know about a specific platform/brand, you have to commit yourself to that one platform entirely.

We don't resent playing only PlayStation. Sony's system offers more than enough content to fulfill our eclectic tastes — and honestly, we'd probably be playing most of the stuff we do given the choice. But sometimes — and whisper it — we do wish we had the time to dive into a game on another platform.

When Actision's GoldenEye 007 remake launched on Nintendo Wii last year, we were faced with that very wish. Having grown up on James Bond movies — and of course RareWare's famous Nintendo 64 game — we were overwhelmed with temptation. "We're slap-bang in the holiday season," we told ourselves, "We just don't have time to play a Wii game." But the temptation didn't go away.

Regular readers will know that we adore James Bond games — even the bad ones. We got a Platinum trophy in Treyarch's Quantum Of Solace and really enjoyed Bizarre Creations' Blood Stone. So seeing a big budget GoldenEye game on store shelves really got our pulses racing. It got even worse when we started reading the reviews for the game, as it fared surprisingly well.

While we did eventually stave away the temptation, all that excitement returned earlier in the year when Activision announced GoldenEye 007: Reloaded. And this time the game's on the "right platform". (Sorry Nintendo fans, you know what we mean.)

The HD rebuild of the Nintendo Wii remake is promising a beefed-up multiplayer component, PlayStation Move support and improved AI. We are big fans of developer Eurocom — they did stellar work on Dead Space: Extraction — so we can't wait to (finally) see what the team did with GoldenEye 007. That we can play it on PS3 and pass it off as "work" makes us even more excited.

In a holiday season dominated by Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3, we're not sure how well GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is going to fare. Especially when you consider that most Bond fans probably caved last year and bought the Nintendo Wii version. The updated visuals are certain to be lovely, but we're not sure what kind of market this re-release is going to have.

Either way, we don't care, because we finally get to play a game that we longed for twelve months ago. And that's why GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is number two on our list of most anticipated overlooked PlayStation titles of Holiday 2011.
