Now's probably the best time to subscribe to PlayStation Plus.

Sony's aiming to bring back the goodwill with its "12 Gift Of Christmas" initiative for European PlayStation Plus subscribers. Similarly to its "12 Deals Of Christmas" discount program, the promotion will see twelve games made freely available for PlayStation Plus subscribers during the run-up to Christmas.

The games will be available for 48 hours only, so its key that you keep checking the PlayStation Store regularly in order to ensure you don't miss out on anything. All of the content will be offered as a supplement to December's full update, so there's lots up for grabs next month.

Unfortunately, Sony's confirmed that each of the twelve Christmas gifts have been available as PlayStation Plus promotions before, so if you've been a subscriber from the start then you'll probably already have claimed everything on offer. But as the PlayStation Store's Ross McGrath explained, this is a perfect opportunity for new subscribers to grab a serious glut of content.

First up is Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which will be available until December 3rd. Sony's keeping schtum about the rest of the schedule, encouraging subscribers to check back regularly to see what's new.

It's a bit like advent calendar really, except with digital goods instead of chocolates.
