How Do You Earn Stubs without Spending Real Money in MLB The Show 24?
This section will explain how to earn Stubs without spending real money. While buying Stubs is the quickest and easiest way to earn Stubs in MLB The Show 24, there are still plenty of other ways your can accrue the currency just by playing the game. For the next part of this page, we're going to explain how to earn Stubs without spending money.
Pay Close Attention to Programs
Programs are progression meters that reward you for playing baseball and completing objectives. There is a primary seasonal Program which rotates every couple of months, as well as a secondary one. Your progression in the main Program is determined by XP, which is awarded for playing matches across all of the game's modes. Many of the tiers in Programs award Stubs, which can then be spent as you please.
However, it's not the only Program in the game that awards Stubs. Moments feature bitesized objectives which can be completed in return for Stubs and rewards, and Player Programs also include Stubs. You'll also get Stubs for improving your Ballplayer.
While you'll progress most Programs purely by playing the game, pay attention to the Tasks listed at the bottom of each Program to ensure you're making effective progress and unlocking as many Stubs and The Show Packs as possible along the way.
Finish Your Moments
Moments are bitesized gameplay challenges inspired by historical and contemporary baseball events. These can be as simple as striking out a single player or as complicated as taking a match to extra innings and earning the walk-off win. Completing Moments will typically earn you Stubs and Program progress, as well as additional rewards. In order to maximise the amount of Stubs you earn when completing Moments try to finish full sets, as completing all of the tiers in a given category will award you with bonus Stubs that you can then spend as you please.
Ensure to Collect Your Cards
Arguably the best way to earn Stubs without spending money is to complete Collections. As you open The Show Packs, your Diamond Dynasty item binder will fill out. You can then mark any cards you've collected, allowing you to earn Stubs and rewards.
Collections are divided into different sets, usually with tiered objectives, and completing all of the Tasks in an individual set will reward you with a large amount of Stubs for your troubles. It's worth noting that any cards you do collect cannot be sold on the Community Market at a later date, so be careful when collecting cards you intend to sell.
Try Your Hand at Showdowns
Showdowns are single player gauntlets where you'll draft a starting lineup and complete Moments to improve your team and unlock perks along the way. Showdowns generally cost Stubs to enter, but if you're successful at completing the Showdown then you'll easily earn your Stubs back with more on top. For example, the World Baseball Classic Showdown costs 500 Stubs to enter, however completing all of the challenges means that you'll get 3,600 Stubs back.
Tackle a Mini Season or Two
Mini Seasons were added in MLB The Show 22, and return once more in MLB The Show 24. Effectively, these allow you to complete miniature leagues against other Diamond Dynasty players' rosters, although the gameplay is completely single player so you don't have to compete online to complete these. Matches are three innings, and once you've completed the regular season, you can then head into the play offs for a chance to win the Mini Season Championship. This year there are different Mini Seasons to complete, all with unique team-building challenges to add variety and force you to use more of your cards.
The rewards for this mode are really good and repeatable, so while you will need to play a lot of matches, you can at least 5,000 Stubs for winning the Mini Season Championship, and there are various other Goals you can fulfil for other in-game bonuses. Furthermore, you'll get a ton of Program progress, and you'll even be able to work on Missions and improve the parallel rating of your players, all of which will improve your team and help you to earn even more Stubs.
Begin a Conquest
Conquest mode in Diamond Dynasty is another great way of maximising the amount of Stubs you earn. Each map has a list of Goals for you to complete, which will generally reward you with XP and Stubs. You'll also find hidden rewards as you capture more territories on the Map, sometimes rewarding you with The Show Packs or Stubs. Pay attention to which Goals can be repeated: playing some Conquest maps over and over can reward you with a steady stream of The Show Packs and Stubs.
Play the Community Market
MLB The Show 24's Community Market can be the best place to earn Stubs if you know what you're doing. Pay attention to the price of MLB Player cards, and use your Stubs to purchase cards that have a decreasing value. If you purchase at the right time, you can then sell the same card at a later date for a profit. You can view the average value of a card over time by viewing the card with the Triangle button and selecting the Marketplace tab. Promotional events and real-world performance can all have an impact on a card's overall value.
Another strategy is to create Buy Orders for a card below its worth. While these may not always be fulfilled by the community, particularly in the early days of the release, they can be an effective means of getting a card for cheap, which you can then resell at a profit. To do this, find the card you want to buy and pick View in Market. From there, select Buy/Sell Options > Buy > Create Buy Order. Depending on the value of the card, you may be required to spend a certain amount of Stubs, and the game will tell you if your Buy Order is too low. Keep in mind that, depending on demand, your Buy Order may not be fulfilled — especially if you, as mentioned, set a particularly low price.
It's also worth noting that, when creating a Buy Order, the Stubs will be deducted from your account immediately. You can view your current Buy Orders from the Diamond Dynasty menu by selecting Shop > Marketplace > My Orders > Active Orders. If you cancel a Buy Order before it's been fulfilled, the Stubs that you spent will be returned to your account.
