With The Game Awards 2023 now squarely in the rear view mirror, it's time to reflect on what was shown during Geoff Keighley's big end of year bash. Criticisms of the format and actual award presentations aside, the event did give us some significant game reveals.
Last week, we asked the Push Square community to vote on the best announcements or reveals from The Game Awards 2023 — and the results are in! Below, you'll find the top ten showings, based on a total of 3,388 votes.
10. Metaphor: ReFantazio (Release Window Trailer) - 131 votes (4%)
9. Exodus (Reveal Trailer) - 134 votes (4%)
8. Light No Fire (Reveal Trailer) - 172 votes (5%)
7. Jurassic Park: Survival (Reveal Trailer) - 213 votes (6%)
6. Monster Hunter Wilds (Reveal Trailer) - 223 votes (7%)
5. Final Fantasy 16 (DLC Reveal Trailer) - 247 votes (7%)
Square Enix had said that details on Final Fantasy 16's paid DLC would drop before the end of 2023, and so all eyes were on The Game Awards in anticipation. Thankfully, the team delivered, and we got a rather rousing reveal trailer. The footage looked great, but what really won people over was the immediate release of the first expansion, Echoes of the Fallen. A very effective shadow drop, and The Rising Tide will tempt players back in Spring 2024.
4. Black Myth: Wukong (Release Date Trailer) - 302 votes (9%)
Black Myth: Wukong has been hovering around for what feels like an age. Everything we've seen of the project has looked extremely promising, but developer Game Science has always refused to pencil in a release date. That is, until this latest trailer. Yep, Wukong still looks stunning, and now we know when it's coming. Whether the game actually sticks to August 2024, we'll have to wait and see, but for now, let's just pretend that it's 100% happening. Finally!
3. Rise of the Ronin (Release Date Trailer) - 326 votes (10%)
We'd argue Rise of the Ronin was one of the standout games at this year's show. PlayStation fans have been waiting to hear more about this Team Ninja title for a while, and so an action-packed gameplay trailer accompanied by a release date was a surefire win. What's more, said release date is actually a lot sooner than people were predicting; Rise of the Ronin's out in March — on the same day as Dragon's Dogma 2. Mercy!
2. SEGA Projects (Reveal Trailer) - 327 votes (10%)
This was a weird announcement, wasn't it? But there's no question that it got people hyped. In case you missed it, SEGA brought an eye-popping trailer to The Game Awards 2023, in which it showcased a bunch of in-development projects that will revive a selection of beloved but dormant properties. That includes Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Shinobi. This trailer was the definition of nostalgia overload, and we can't wait for SEGA to drop some additional details.
1. God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla (Reveal Trailer) - 503 votes (15%)
Proving once again that you can't argue with free DLC, God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla had the best showing at The Game Awards 2023 (according to the Push Square community). Whenever that PlayStation Studios logo hits the screen, you can guarantee people will lose their minds, and while this combat-focused, roguelite expansion may not be the DLC that a lot of people wanted from Ragnarok, it was still one heck of a surprise. Even better, it's out on the 12th December. An easy win, when you piece it all together.
Do you agree with the overall results? What was your personal favourite showing at The Game Awards 2023? Tell everyone just how wrong they are in the comments section below.

I don't know why, but Ronin isn't doing anything for me? I feel like I should be into it.
In other news this was a scam from the start and we all knew it.
"Mere days after The Day Before launched in early access, studio Fntastic has announced that it's closing: "The Day Before has failed financially, and we lack the funds to continue."
I'm disappointed with no Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
I guess only old people like me remember how fantastically great was Budokai Tenkaichi 3...
@Splat i think it might be a soulsborne, so I have no interest in it either. Where's Stellar blade?
Jet Set Radio alone would've been enough to launch it to the top spot for me but those other five games as well? Clear choice imo.
Jet Set Radioooooooo
BOY!!!
@Olmaz If it helps you feel any better, I definitely thought Metaphor would rank a good bit higher. Admittedly, it's a pretty stacked list to begin with.
Wow guess my tastes are quite different than most on this site. A roguelike add-on for God of War would be right at the bottom of my list
such a shame that Other didn't get more votes, I love a little bit of the Other.
I'm a little surprised that MH Wilds is so low, that was very easily my number 1. I guess there's just not that many Monster Hunter enjoyers here
@Splat I feel the same about Ronin. Watching the trailer and it made me think about how much better Ghost of Tsushima looked than it. Seriously, GoT looks like it has stronger visuals from what we’ve seen. If Ronin plays like Wo Long too, I’m definitely not interested in it. I’m just not a Souls guy unless it’s really good Souls. It releases against Dragon’s Dogma 2 (and Princess Peach Showtime), as well. I dunno. I feel like it needs a demo or something for me to get interested. I like the setting, so I want to like the game.
For me, I really had a lot of fun with the Game Awards, but I came away from it feeling like I might not spend much money on games next year. It also made me wonder, where are all those games that we’ve heard so little about? Where’s Pragmata? Stellar Blade? The Plucky Squire? Silksong? Silent Hill?
I’m hoping we get some showcases early next year. Really hoping we get some concrete release dates too. But even if we don’t, well… at least JRPGs take forever to play and there’s no shortage of great ones next year.
@somnambulance @Splat All I know is Ronin releases the same day as Dragon's Dogma 2. And there's only one winner there, Arisen.
@ShogunRok This man speaks the truth. Not sure what Team Ninja is thinking with that release date.
It’s going to be a strange day when we see that Princess Peach Showtime landed #1 on the charts beating both games for launch week though. I have this feeling.
@ShogunRok Keep your pawns away from water. They don't like being soaked to the bone.
Kratos the g.o.a.t 🐐 👑 wins again.i agree with god of war ragnarok was the best of the video game awards 2023.that cyclops was nostalgia on a high impact.word up son
I was kinda down on the newest look at Rise of the Ronin for some reason.
@Splat I'm in the same boat, not impressed or excited for Rise of the Ronin but I LOVED Ghost of Tsushima. 🤷🏾♂️
@BamBamBaklava89 Same here. I can't pinpoint it, but something felt off. Like the sensation that what we were shown was barely holding on together and would break down the minute the camera looked away...
I hope I'm wrong though, it's a game I'd love to see be great.
@3Above Ghost is godtier in my book. I loved it on PS4 and enjoyed the PS5 version even more.
The previous Rise of the Ronin trailers were better. There were a lot more game mechanics on display than just hack n’ slash combat.
@Splat I'm inclined to agree 😌
I'm afraid we might soon experience oversaturation of Feudal era Japan themed games tho. AC Red, Rise of the Ronin, Phantom Blade Zero and 1 I think I'm forgetting are all on the way before or around when Ghost of Tsushima 2 will probably launch ( early 2025 to avoid being buried by GTA6 Is my guess).
My favorite ‘No Rest For The Wicked’ isn’t on the list. I loved everything about that but especially the gorgeous art style and character design!
I think Rise of the Ronin will be lost on certain people due to them comparing it too much with Ghost of Tsushima just like people compare soulsborne games with the originals everytime. GoT was an amazing game and will probably never be beaten in terms of quality for that genre/setting, But that doesn't mean Rise of the Ronin should be overlooked, I think people need to go into the game without GoT in mind and enjoy it for what it is.
@Grimwood I enjoy the setting I just dont want it to get to a point where people ignore games because of this setting, they way some immediately dismiss Souls games or open world games.
Most excited for Rise of the Ronin. Absolutely loved Wo Long. Team Ninja are crushin it!
This shows how bad a show it was tbh...I love god of war but no interested in this add on ..
Looking forward to rise of the ronin but have known about that ages ...
I don't like Rogue-likes, even easier ones, but more God of War and an excuse to play more is just fine with me.
@Tchunga It was my top pick too, but I think there are several reasons it wasn't quite as popular as other games.
1. The trailer was little more than a teaser.
2. It's quite a way off at 2025, as opposed to other much sooner announcements.
3. The game itself existing isn't so surprising, considering it was leaked a few years ago (and it's natural to assume given World and Rise's huge successes).
I can't say I'm surprised to see God of War win on a Playstation site but I'm happy to see the love shown to Sega on here, that really was a great reveal from them
A lot of you guys here not liking rise of the Ronin probably suck at souls/hard games which is fine souls/hard games ain’t for everybody. I’m personally hype as f*ck for Rise of the Ronin because I love the Nioh games and other soul games.
The SEGA reveal won the show for me. A big surprise and a massive treat. I love the originals so will buy these also.
Monster Hunter Wilds was second. So glad they’re making a game in the style of Worlds again.
Third were the DLC on FF16 and GoW. These were a welcome but kind of expected surprise. GoW being free though is amazing.
@Olmaz DBZ was easily the best part of the whole show for me, closely followed by FFVII.
@somnambulance @ShogunRok One shall stand, one shall fall...
or have it's release date moved.
@themightyant @ShogunRok Sometimes I wish there was more than just a like button. Lol
A new Golden Axe? My fave moment of the show!
And here I am just quietly hyped about the new Mana game.
