I've got Dead Space in my library, so will brave it and start it soon!

Haven't played this remake, so expecting to jump even more this time round 🫣

Hopefully be playing the console version of Phasmaphobia. Hopefully it’s a decent port, I really enjoyed it on pc! I’ve also got A Quiet Place and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit to play. FNAF has some really good sprite animations and gives me OG Clock Tower vibes.

And resident evil 4 and village.

Might just get back into 7 days to die but honestly the monster hunter beta will probably rob most of my time for horror games.

I started Dead Space Remake, loved the first two games back in the day and this remake hits all the spits for me

Still getting no love but Visage and Darkwood should be on this list. Play them!!

Dead Island 2 for me as the new update dropped last week. Might also get on and finish Silent Hills 2 as well.

Unpatched LOTR: Gollum. Where is it in the list? Again Push Square with the agenda?

Silent Hill 2, since I still haven’t finished it. On the other hand, my buddy and I decided to find something short, scary and totally messed up that we can blast through in one night with a few beers.

Honestly got too scared to finish the original Dead Space. Will try to get through the remake!

I'd say Inside although it is a PS4 game. You can play it and enjoy the horrific ending in one go.

This year for the annual spooky season I ended up playing Silent Hill 2 Remake, Alone in the Dark: A New Nightmare, The Bridge Curse, The Chant, Siren, The Devil in Me, Dreadout 2, Indika (not spooky), Bloodstained Classic II DLC, and the original PS1 Medievil. Turned out to be a fun potpourri ranging from incredibly scary and amazing (SH2) to the laughably bad (Devil in Me) so it's been a damn good season. I hope to eventually get around to Darkwood, Dementium, and the RetroRealms games.

This Year i played FNAF into the pit, System Shock Remake, Dredge and currently playing Alan Wake 2.

I did attempt Quantum Error but i gave up on that one

Good list, finally picked up Dredge and it really has is hooks in me.

Little Nightmares II is my game of choice this spooky season.

@CriticalHit I've not played Dead Space before...and had heard a lot of good things about it... so bought it (not on PS+) for pre-Halloween gaming. I have to say, it looks like a very modern game - and has all the feels of a great game. I for one however, found a lot of the combat a bit spongey, and it leans too much into the survival horror for me (too much scrounging for ammo) to the point where it just started becoming more annoying than scary. However, it's definitely worth playing. I think it should have aimed to be a little shorter though, as I'm not half-way through, and starting to feel it's over-staying its welcome. I think it is aided a lot by nostalgia... but is still a very decent game.

Of course - that could be me, but I just wish it was a tighter experience. It could just be that as I get older, I get more impatient though ___(O,O)___ (.....foo iz back?). Hope you enjoy. The story is good, and there's definitely some frantic moments for a Spooktober playfest.

Beyond the obvious choices of Silent Hill and Resident Evil I'd say Still wakes the deep was an amazing surprise and my favourite for the last few years has been Signalis:
Signalis delivers the fears as well as great sci-fi and presents some of the heaviest themes I've ever seen in a horror game. The odd German/Asian setting is absolutely unique and don't get me started on the soundtrack! I feel this is one of the games that started the wave of PS1 era style releases we see so many of today like crow country, Alisa and the latest from blumhouse.

I wouldn't bother haha. I mention this in nearly every PushSquare 'Top 10 Horror Games' article. Visage, Darkwood, and Signalis get snubbed every time for more mainstream (read: less scary) stuff. I mean, I know it's all opinions at the end of the day, but at this point I suspect there are not any huge horror fans among PushSquare's staff.

You get the standard AAAs and a couple flavor of the week indies which benefit from recency bias in these lists, but don't go expecting deep dives or to see any deep cuts like Darkwood on here.

@Yagami - so, it might be that I just sucked at the game... but, I play a loot-grind gaming style (I tend to always sniff out ammo/drops), and in my opinion there's not enough nodes/credits to upgrade to what you're suggesting at a rate that I would like. At least, not that I've found in my game-play.

I'm a little surprised you think that enemies only take 2 shots)... but my experience playing it now is very different. The one thing I would say, I don't think they on-board players well to the different skills you get... or the environment. And I suspect the metroidvania aspect of go to A, then B, then C, then A, then B is likely not my jam. I just found it bloat to make the game longer without actually adding. I might change my mind by the time I finish.

But at the end of the day - I actually just find the game a little bit repetitive (likely because they have an environment with little variety in the first half of the game - and I assume the second half is more of the same). Once again - I'm happy you enjoyed it; but for me (much like RDR) I think a lot of nostalgia colours it's modern day playing; and of course, people also like different games.

@Yagami haha... are you serious... scared? It was just annoying (to try and reduce ammo usage, you needed to use the environment in very specific ways... perhaps I'm unlucky, but a lot of things were just very hit-and-miss strategies). Also - perhaps it's also because I get bored after 1-2 hours, I switch games (and so it ruins the flow).

I almost always play with headphones these days - it's the price you pay for having a family ... but only sometimes in the dark. I generally don't get that stressed by these sorts of scares... but if we were talking about Alien Isolation, that would be a different conversation...

Nothing compares to Resident Evil in VR2.

Fears to Fathom just dropped and I've finished new Alan Wake 2 dlc so away I go.

Still Wakes the Deep is excellent.

I was playing the evil within.resident evil 7 gold edition.little nightmares.days gone.dying light and doom.last couple of weeks.now im having fun with 2014 game of the year masterpiece. Dragon age inquisition.word up son

Almost finished my very first playthrough of Alan Wake, finished a co-op session of The Dark Anthology's Little Hope with my nieces, and will tackle Dead Space next (never played that either and am a bit scared 😅). And finally on to Alan Wake 2! Busy busy!!

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I'm definitely looking forward to starting it in Halloween but I am keeping me expectations in check.

@CriticalHit haha... have fun. And yes, had to go back to the roots. Our first computer was a Texas Instruments TI-994A, followed by a Commodore 128... but it was the Amiga that was the machine that I transitioned to as an adult.
