We've made it to the end of 2024, so now is a perfect time to reflect on the last 12 months. As always, we made some predictions way back in January, and so now we must look to see which of them came true, and which were a load of rubbish. Editor Sammy Barker and assistant editor Liam Croft came joint first for 2023, but who's in the lead this time? Let's take a look.
Sammy Barker, Editor
"Kingdom Hearts helps Disney overcome the darkness at D23."
Unfortunately for Sammy, Kingdom Hearts 4 was a no-show at the 2024 D23 expo, so no points for this prediction. It wasn't a bad one to make, though — we are due for an update on that game soon. Well, hopefully.
"Zenless Zone Zero completes the holy gacha trifecta on PS5."
As expected from our resident gacha expert, Sammy was right on the money with this. Zenless Zone Zero has indeed become another smash hit for HoYoverse, and the detail about it being a console exclusive on PS5 has also proven true — for the time being, anyway.
"Stellar Blade becomes a cult PS5 classic."
This is a difficult prediction to nail down, because it probably needs a little more time before it can really be declared a cult classic. However, Sammy probably should get the point here because Stellar Blade has accrued a following, and while it did pretty well critically, it's been somewhat forgotten during the awards season. It more or less fits the bill, then — we'll give it to him. It's Christmas after all.

"Sony redeems itself with the best PlayStation Showcase in years."
While we have had some decent shows from Sony this year, it's difficult to call any of them "the best in years". There were definitely some highlights from some 2024 shows, including the announcement of Astro Bot and Ghost of Yotei, but it's difficult to argue any one presentation has been better than in previous years.
"Silent Hill 2 releases this year, and it's better than expected."
Liam saw this one coming all the way back in January. There was definitely trepidation about the Silent Hill 2 remake from Bloober Team before it arrived, but once the reviews dropped, it was clear the team had nailed it. Receiving great reviews from critics, the PS2 classic really did get the remake it deserves.
"Naughty Dog announces one of its new single player projects."
Amazingly, Liam was proven right about this prediction right at the last possible moment. During The Game Awards 2024, Geoff's big one-more-thing announcement was the reveal of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Naughty Dog's next game. It doesn't get more clear-cut than this!

"Sony will release a new game from a classic PlayStation property."
The phrase "classic PlayStation property" is somewhat nebulous, but we don't feel as though this came to pass. Sony did bring us the excellent Astro Bot, though that doesn't really fit Rob's description, so we're gonna withhold the point here. Sorry, Rob — maybe next time.
"Tekken 8 will get a DLC guest character from Final Fantasy."
This prediction, however, was pinpoint accurate. Rob's suggestion of a Final Fantasy character coming to Tekken 8 came true, but he even went so far as to suggest it could be Clive from FF16, and that's exactly who we got. Bravo!
"Baldur's Gate 3's inevitable expansion will be the highest rated release of 2024 (on Metacritic)."
Oh dear, it's all come crashing down again. Baldur's Gate 3 didn't get that "inevitable" expansion after all. While the game has received countless updates adding to and improving the huge RPG, an actual expansion is nowhere to be seen.

"Third-party hits will carry Sony through a quiet year for PlayStation Studios."
This is a difficult one to pin down; Stephen's really talking about first-party teams here, rather than externally-made stuff like Rise of the Ronin and Helldivers 2. In that sense, he's sort-of right, and while Astro Bot is an absolute banger, there wasn't much other excitement from internal teams this year. Maybe half a point here.
"Sony will announce and release at least one PlayStation Studios PSVR2 game in 2024."
Uh oh. Stephen's put a little too much faith in Sony here, and while the company's work on PSVR2 isn't done yet and it's still getting a steady stream of games, there wasn't a single PS Studios game for the headset in 2024. Never mind!
"Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League won't be the complete disaster many have decided it will be."
The less said about this, the better, really. It was a complete disaster.

"2024 is the year of new IP [for Sony]."
While Sony did publish one or two new IPs with Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, we're unsure if they're quite what Aaron was getting at with this prediction. He seems to be talking specifically about new first-party series, such as the freshly announced Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and we obviously didn't get anything new on that level in 2024. We'll give him half a point seeing as we did get some new IPs, but maybe not the ones Aaron was after.
"PS5 Pro will be announced and launched this year."
Ding ding ding! Nice one, Aaron — PS5 Pro was indeed announced and released in 2024. It launched in November for an eye-watering $700/£700, boasting an enhanced GPU, AI-driven super sampling, and better ray tracing, making all your PS5 games that little bit sparklier.
"2024 will be a quietly decent year for PSVR2."
You know what? It has been a quietly decent year for PSVR2. Especially in the latter half of 2024, PSVR2 has had some cracking games arrive, giving you plenty of good reasons to dust it off. In particular, we can recommend Toy Trains, Spin Rhythm XD, Vendetta Forever, Arizona Sunshine Remake, Metro Awakening, and Trombone Champ: Unflattened — all very good virtual reality experiences.

"Baldur's Gate 3 gets a proper expansion, announced and released in 2024."
Sorry, Khayl, no dice. Baldur's Gate 3 never did get an expansion in 2024, so it's a big thumbs down for this prediction. Both you and Rob were convinced about this, and it's let you both down. Lesson learned: never put faith in Larian Studios. (This is a joke.)
"PlayStation Portal turns out to be a surprising success story for Sony."
Can't argue with this one! The PS Portal really has turned out to be a success, and this year its value was increased further still with the introduction of cloud gaming. Now you can not only hook up to your PS5 via Remote Play, you can also just beam a selection of software straight to the Portal. We imagine this device will only continue to do well for Sony over the next few years.
"Focus shifts back to single-player, and live service games start to go away."
An interesting prediction, this one. Khayl is talking specifically about Sony here, and if we zoom in on the platform holder, it's had some serious highs and lows with GaaS games in 2024. Helldivers 2 continues to be a huge success, but Concord was such a catastrophe it was removed from existence just days after release. Astro Bot was a beacon of hope later in the year, and two of Sony's big 2024 announcements — Ghost of Yotei and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet — are single player titles, so there may be some truth to Khayl's prediction.

So, our winner this time is Aaron Bayne! Congratulations on your great predicting prowess. Treat yourself to a mince pie or something.
In the new year, we'll be making some predictions about 2025, so watch out for those. For now, celebrate our varying degrees of success in the comments section below.

"2024 will be a quietly decent year for PSVR2." Obviously we had two different versions of 2024. PSVR2 game output remained a tragedy.
"there wasn't a single PS Studios game for the headset in 2024"
As someone who doesn't like VR, so I don't follow that stuff at all, this is still absolutely wild to me. I'm curious how much in general released for the thing then, because I would've figured Sony would have AT THE VERY LEAST a handful of (smaller) projects for their own darn hardware ready each year this early in its life.
Right?
Well done Aaron!
"Third-party hits will carry Sony through a quiet year for PlayStation Studios."
I feel like Stephen was correct here unless I'm misunderstanding some part of it.
Definitely a "clear cut". Yikes
For PSVR2 there's definitely not going to be a first party title made for that again, Sony would have looked at the initial sales and put a stop to any dedicated game plans and told their studios to focus on the PS5 only. They really need to do what Meta are doing and buying studios that solely focus on making VR games.
@3Above 100% should of got a full point here, FFVII Rebirth, Silent Hill 2, Black Myth Wukong etc...
Maybe for 2025 require more specific language in the predictions because some of these skated through on generosity alone! But sure it's all a bit of fun at the end of the day too I suppose 😘
These were my predictions from 2024.
Helldivers 2 is a moderate success and leads to Sony acquiring Arrowhead Games.
A new Twisted Metal is announced for a 2025 release to coincide with series 2 of the TV show.
New Astro game releases this year that can be played on PS5 and PSVR2.
Concord releases late 2024 but struggles to find a decent player base.
This year Sony will not have a game in the running for GOTY at The Game Awards for the first time in 10 years.
Moon Studio's No Rest for the Wicked will be the highest rated PS5 game this year.
Horizon Zero Dawn remake releases in September this year...much old man shouts at cloud energy ensures.
And finally Insomniac will announce a Venom game.
@AdamNovice pretty much every one of these predictions could be considered wrong in some way. Even the concord one as the game struggled to find ANY playerbase
@PloverNutter The only ones in my favour were the Astro announcement but only half right. Concord I wasn't expecting everyone to reject it the way they did.
And while Horizon didn't release in September, I was spot on about the discourse.
Rob was on point with the FF guess for tekken 8. Makes me think they're gonna do this for every Tekken game that has a new FF game release.
Granted I don't usually follow PushSquare's "predictions for the year" articles but this is the first time I see Rob's FF guest prediction for TK8.
Kinda scary how spot on he got to be with that one.😅
@Coolmusic I suspect insider trading for that point.
