Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is here, and it seems to have made a splash amongst the hardcore action game community. A bit like a mix between Nioh and Sekiro — complete with a Romance of the Three Kingdoms backdrop — Wo Long is the latest heavy hitter from Team Ninja, a developer that's been impressively prolific in recent times.
We gave the brutal but oh-so-satisfying action RPG an 'excellent' 9/10 in our Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty PS5 review. We wrote: "It's fast, frenetic, and hits like a truck, with one of the most mesmeric combat systems we've ever had the pleasure to master. It might scare off more casual players, but those looking for a challenge, well — you can stop looking."
But are you as taken with Wo Long as we are? As always, let us know if you're playing via our polls, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.

Always wanted to play the Nioh games, but I’m not confident that I have the skill set necessary to do so. But seeing as it’s on Game Pass, I’m definitely gonna give Wo Long a good old go on my Series X and if it really connects with me, I’ll definitely pick up a physical copy on PS5. Fingers crossed I get on with it.
Played the Demo, I surely enjoyed it but this is not my cup of tea. Sorry!
Not yet. I might get it in a few months, but after last year, Elden Ring showed I'm just not in the right place for brutally hard games at the moment.
@The_Pixel_King I will say be patient with it. I loved all the Souls and Nioh games, and I had written this one off as not for me after becoming incredibly frustrated by the beta and the boss at the end of the first demo level. However, I can safely say something clicked and it's as enjoyable as Sekiro with the parry system. Give it a shot!
One of my most anticipated games, really like their combat system.
Finished the first boss. Waiting for the kids to goto bed and jumping in more. First boss was fun and was a good introduction to some of the systems.
@ErrantRob Cheers dude, I’ll do just that. I really do want to play these Soulslikes, I just have to pick one and stick with it. The problem in this day and age is having a big backlog, so there’s always something else to play if it doesn’t click in the first few hours. But if I really stick with it and practice, I have every chance of succeeding. Well, in theory at least!
Some day. Not for full price, for the level of quality on offer.
Not right now really want to get it but I'm prioritising the Fatal Frame IV remaster
In like Flynn. I’m clamping down on soulsclones only this and P on my gadar
I want to play this but I’m determined to finish Hogwarts Legacy seeing as I paid full price for it. I’m really enjoying HL when I play but for some reason I can only play in short bursts. I think I’m so used to souls games that I’m finding the lack of action slow at times.
This is calling to me…
Excited to play this, definitely on the list, but too many games currently in my backlog.
@Sakai just curious, is it harder then the NiOh games? I really enjoyed those , they were challenging indeed but you didn't have to parry all the time to succeed. I'm just afraid this game is all about perfect parry
I am not a masochist so I am staying away from this one.
Wasn't too fussed until the reviews came in. Only problem is.... Oh no! I don't have a backlog. Just some games I haven't played yet, inanimate objects that hold no sway over fate and won't determine what I do next. Schmacklog. WO LONG NEXT (in a few weeks after some patches).
This is on my Amazon wish list. I'll be purchasing this when I find the time to play it. PSVR2 has been consuming all of my game time.
@Tatarimokke I would say it's about the same as Nioh so far. I just beat the 2nd boss, he was much easier than the first boss for anyone wondering. You can also kind of block and parry at the same time, as the parry is assigned to the dodge button. It sounds wierd but it's kind of nice and much more forgiving. The parry window is also pretty generous. If you liked Nioh you will love this I would guess
Been playing all day and its very good. Its tough but pretty fair and the parry system is actually pretty forgiving.
@Sakai Thanks, sounds convincing to me. I'll start playing it tomorrow then
gamepass xbox S version has no HDR weak version
Nope, same old, same old, recent games are all similar and it's becoming fustrating to play something different
I was waiting for this game so much, but now I’m stuck with Wild Hearts. As soon I finish my four deeply volatile kemonos I definitely switch to WLFD and disappear there for long time.
I’m sticking with Hogwarts Legacy for the immediate future!
I'm waiting for a $20 sale in a few years, I'm terrible at Souls-like games and my backlog is already massive enough as is.
ive only played a little, but its very bland and dated. gameplay is decent. 7.5/8 thus far
@jrt87 Thank you very much for the detailed review. It helped me to make the decision buying the game. I was a bit worried about the parry mechanism, I was feared it's something like it was in Sekiro. I relieved it is more forgiving. I completed all the Nioh and all the Fromsoft games several times and I really love them. But Sekiro was a different beast...it's like a rhythm game which requires perfect parry which I failed on many times. Anyway, long story short, I'm going to start it today. How you're getting on with it?
@The_Pixel_King Something I tell everyone is that there is a Soulslike out there for everyone and once one clicks for you you'll find the rest a lot easier to get into.
With Wo Long the most important thing is to get comfortable with the deflection mechanics, my no.1 tip is keep your block button pressed whilst trying to deflect that way even if you whiff you still block
I started playing a little earlier today. The combat seems quite complex but I'm enjoying it so far.
