Another year, another Call of Duty — but the juggernaut franchise is in a slightly strange spot these days. Alongside its annual releases, Call of Duty now exists as a permanent and ever-growing gaming fixture thanks to Warzone and its immensely popular battle royale gameplay. We're left wondering where games like the newly released Call of Duty: Vanguard fit into the equation — and that's why we've penned this poll.
For those totally out of the loop, Vanguard is the newest Call of Duty title, developed by Sledgehammer Games. Dragging players back to a World War II setting — whether they like it or not — Vanguard's campaign focuses on four different soldiers, while traditional multiplayer mayhem and zombie modes complete the package.
We gave the game a respectable 7/10 in our Call of Duty: Vanguard PS5 review, calling it "an incredibly solid but super safe instalment".
But as always, we want to know if you lot have snagged a copy of the latest blockbuster. Vote in our polls, and then duck for cover in the comments section below.

I had 0 interest in the game. But enough of my buddies bought it and were on me to get it, that I grabbed it.
The Mulitplayer is actually decent in this version and the group has had some good times, so I have no regrets.
I only tend to play the Infinity Ward ones at this point.
Haven’t bought a COD since MW (2019) and will wait until the next MW comes out next year (I think it is).
I’d used to love COD back in the MW and MW2 days but just refuse to buy trashy money grabbing efforts year on year.
And to think when I owned the XBOX 360 I bought every game that came out..now I have hardly any interest at all..
I’m clearly in the wrong group! I bought it last night, was awesome. I even played a few games before work this morning! Haven’t felt the incline to do that in years 😌
Only play the iw ones. Hate the treyarch ones and not keen on ww2 cods anymore.
Zero interest in any of these annualized or GaaS titles
Over to battlefield for me this year. Can't see me getting invested though.
I used to be a big fan in the old days but lost interest after MW2 released.
Like Battlefield for multiplayer but sometimes enjoy CoD campaigns. Hear it’s really short (can be beat in 5 hours) so I’m going to wait until it’s dirt cheap. It’s times like this I miss Redbox as an option to rent games.
Plus WW II is getting old…
I would have bought it if Activision didn’t permaban me when my account got hacked and did nothing to help me out. Their lack of customer service lost me as a yearly regular.
Nope watched this video of it being installed https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=siHQ4DNyxVI (skipped through it) & it's just ridiculous
@Snackfood i initially only bought the game to play zombies as i did last year with cold war but you're right the multiplayer is very fun and no matter if im having a bad game im just having fun.
@LazyLombax that will no doubt balloon in size & the fact that the campaign has to be downloaded separately is rubbish in that video it actually downloads & installs version 1.04 then redownloads it & says that couldn't install the update which has been an issue since modern warfare that was never fixed Activision just doesn't give a s****
GameFly Rental, waiting for it to arrive.
Only care about the single player campaign and can kill it in a few days. Perfect for the service
I pre-ordered and haven't been disappointed! I seem to be the minority where the thought of MW controls in a WW2 setting is perfect, to me. I don't care for Treyarch's entries, but Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer make some very solid campaigns (Infinite Warfare is my favorite). Not to mention, the MW game engine (used in Vanguard) facilitates the best feeling FPS gunplay in any game, bar none.
@Would_you_kindly You have to download the campaing thwnks for saving me the money its a pity it looked cool.
I bought it wish I didn’t. Absolutely rubbish, same old same old COD game. Sold it the next day.
Getting a tad fed up with the same old source engine albeit tweaked a bit here and there running the cod games..theres only so much you can do with it..yeah its smooth as hell but nothing really gets propper f**ked up..its a pass for me as battlefield gets my money this time out..
@Snackfood Same exact situation here. The day it came out I had no plan on getting the game. Little did I know that I’d buy it and play it within the next 24 hours because all my old middle/high school buddies would finally all decide to buy another CoD after many, many years.
And… I’ve actually had a ton of fun. The multiplayer, mechanics, visuals, customization, and maps all feel great. It’s also just fun to play a multiplayer FPS with my buddies after all these years. I didn’t touch the campaign or Zombies yet but I’ll definitely check them out soon. I remember loving Zombies in World and War and the first Black Ops. Plus I’ve always liked the campaigns and heard this one is relatively short, so I’d love to just binge that in a couple days.
I got it for free. I like it a lot.
@Flaming_Kaiser yep 2 'campaign pack' add ons they don't even try to fit the game on the disk anymore
I used to love Cod but lost interest after they went to space and then with the jumping suits. I also think gaming has changed and while the old modern warfare lobbies were great at the time people have moved on
Never bought a CoD, but I've tried a handful and have just never liked the way the series felt. A lot of that is probably due to having played with a controller, which I've never liked for shooters. I actually thought I was terrible at FPS' for years and avoided them because I always played on consoles, but when I switched to PC as my primary platform about a decade ago I realized I was pretty decent at them and it wasn't me, it was just the control scheme. Maybe if I tried a CoD on PC I'd like it, but I'm not willing to give Activision any money at this point.
Console launch COD player here, meaning I've only played the original Modern Warfare, Advance Warfare (since it came out at the same time I bought my PS4), and Black Ops: Cold War. I enjoyed all three, but I never felt compelled to play any other games in the franchise
bought it today cause i know my family will juggle between cod an battlefield.
B.A.T.T.L.E.F.I.E.L.D. is all i need.
I thought Modern Warfare was great. Cold War was ok, but I did really enjoy the zombies mode in CW. I could never get into it previously.
Being in Australia, getting burnt with low player counts, the one thing that is great with COD is that you know you are going to get a full server if you are playing the main multiplayer modes.
COD is also a generally meaty package. Loads of maps, loads of guns, campaign, zombies, multiplayer. You can understand why some folk just buy this and FIFA and they are done for the year.
I'll probably pick it up closer to Xmas as I am waiting for Battlefield 2042. That will be my MP game of choice for now (though I do have reservations about that after the beta).
I was really into the series until the original MW. That's around when I got into Uncharted 2 online and pretty much never looked back until MW 2019. Ended up pleasantly surprised how much I liked it especially the Gun Fight mode really enjoyed that mode in particular.
Skipped Cold War after trying the beta. Ended up picking up Vanguard after playing the betas and not feeling the BF beta at all. Vanguard is pretty great from what I've played so far. Champion Hill is definitely my favorite mode as it's kind of a spin on Gun Fight.
@Snackfood @Snackfood Same, I've really enjoyed Vanguard's MP so far
They poop these games yearly lol, definetly will skip and I won't be playing no Call of Battlezone 2042 either. A sad year for console fps games.
The only multiplayer fps releasing this year worth playing is Halo Infinite.
Cod osninoy worth touching when infinity ward is making it and WW2 is just not fun anymore.
Bf2042 just looks like a big mess of bugs and changes most people don't want.
The portal mode could have been cool but hear it's much more limited than expected.
First year I have skipped out on CoD and I probably will for future instalments as well. After the Activision Blizzard fiasco I just can't bring myself to support the company anymore with a new purchase. I'll switch to BF 2042 this year on PC and see how that plays out. Though I may end up picking up Vanguard 2nd hand down the road.
I guess I would consider myself a call of duty fan, not a day one call of duty fan but a six months later on sale call to duty the fan but after purchasing a physical copy of modern warfare combat 2019 and Discovering that the campaign was a optional download I decided that I would never buy another call of duty again and activision can go eat a big plate of farts 💨
I have a passive interest in the campaign. I might pick it up when it goes on deep discount. Probably will be playing Halo this year. I also like Battlefield, but I’ll wait to see the reception before I pick it up.
No to Tencent
Started with freezing alot of the guns don't
Have much clout and the sound of the guns makes them feel like pop guns
@Would_you_kindly But why not put the campaing on the disc and the multiplayer as a download?
Because i believe we need to patch and update the multiplayer anyway and thats the thing thats useless when people stop playing.
Plus why is it so big when its only a few hours of campaing. Ill tell you because of the resell value.
Not this time. I didn't like the beta and I'm tired of the WW2 setting for multiplayer. It felt like a MW clone with CoDWW2 skin only MW is better for me as it has some of my favourite maps from CoD4.
I only want it for the campaign but I don't feel it's worth the price for that. It's way too high now compared to what I used to pay. Will get it someday when it's dirt cheap unless we get it on PS+ before then but I've still to play the Black Ops Cold War campaign first.
It's Activision Blizzard... so no.
@LazyLombax shoot I forgot about Sandstorm since I have it on pc too. Yeah Insurgency is good a game.
I've never bought a CoD game and have only played splitscreen Modern Warfare once. I just have no interest in the militaty aesthetic. When I was younger I was into Day of Defeat and enjoyed the early Medal of Honor games on PSX, but now, if it's military it has to have something else, either fantastical like Wolfenstein, or subversive, like Spec-Ops: The Line.
@Would_you_kindly LOL that is hilarious.. "Let's Install" is a hilarious idea. Jeeeezzzz... an hour and 14 minutes. This is precisely why I switched over to....Switch.... for a while. I got so sick of those massive installs. Sometimes I only have an hour to play games and when this happens it's like.. why even bother.
Vangaurd is better than some of the previous cod games like mw19 and advanced warfare but worse than the classic cods like cod4 and mw2
This is the first one I bought since COD 2 on PC back in the day. Opposed to a lot of people here, I quite like the WW2 theme. As a teenager I was quite obsessed with everything WW2, thanks to my dad who was into model building. Seeing the trailers reminded me of the pictures in the many books he had about the war.
No. I love the direction they went in with MW2019, but Cold War was too big of a step backwards, and Vanguard doesn’t feel like a big enough step forwards. Oh well 🤷♂️ The best part about CoD is it’s the definition of “there’s always next year”
@Flaming_Kaiser yeah that or zombies I'm convinced that when the new war zone map releases in December they'll add warzone as a mandatory install like they did with mw the fact that on release date it already had an update to 1.04 meaning they'd already needed to patch it 4 times since it went 'gold' just shows that development is rushed in order to get the cash cow released in time for Christmas
@Would_you_kindly So its a 100 GB plus again... ☹️
@Flaming_Kaiser yep 103 gb no doubt it will get a lot bigger in the near future
@Would_you_kindly I believe they dont even try to make it smaller. 🤪
I have zero interest in Vanguard, will be passing.
Wow, I can’t believe the amount of nonsense being posted on here. All of these comments have just been spurted out for likes without any having actual clue of the subject matter
Firstly, If you haven’t played ANY call of duty whatsoever since MW2 (12 years ago if your memory won’t jog) you literally haven’t got a place in this discussion there’s absolutely nothing you can add of any value here there’s been 12 instalments of the series before you were last active so just go and comment on something related to whatever you are playing.
Secondly, if you haven’t played it how on earth can you say it’s a bad game? I can’t comprehend the level of stupidity here. Play it and decide for yourself and then keep that decision to yourself because you’re not a reviewer, you’re not even a disgruntled customer…
And for all the grown adults out there proclaiming that “battlefield has my money this year” like this is the last $60 they’re ever likely to see, not everyone’s wife only lets them get one game per year. Jeez
I have felt quite undecided thus far about this one.... which is a first for me. MW 19? Loved it right away. Advanced Warfare? Hated it the moment I played it, and so on. Vanguard mp is enjoyable, but only to a certain extent. The campaign is enjoyable as well, but far from the best one I've played through. I know I'm not stating anything revolutionary about this title, but perhaps a few more days and I'll reach a final conclusion about this latest C.O.D. iteration.
BONUS They brought back my beloved Riot Shield, which was honestly the biggest reason behind my purchase! 🛡
