We doubt that Evil West was on many people's must-buy lists at the start of this year, but the unashamedly 'AA' action game has actually made a bit of a splash — at least in hardcore circles.
We gave the comically gruesome title a rock solid 7/10 in our Evil West PS5 review, concluding: "Evil West is one of those really enjoyable 7/10s. It's never going to win any awards and it's probably not going to stick long in the memory, but give it a few years and someone, somewhere, will swear to you that it's actually an underappreciated classic." You know exactly the kind of game we're talking about.
For some, we like to think that Evil West will end up being a bit of a palate cleanser, following on from recent blockbusters like God of War Ragnarok. It's just dumb fun from start to finish, and that can be refreshing in an age of all-too-serious titles.

Waiting for a sale
Will wait till it comes to PS catalogue
I've not paid any attention to this but having just watched some footage it looks pretty fun and very similar to God of War gameplay wise, it's certainly one I'll pick up at some point but I've got plenty to be getting on with at the moment
I think a lot of people were waiting on more info and reviews on this one. The 1080p with 60fps really made it a tough full price sell for myself.
Others are probably baited into the callisto protocol over hype.
Both titles are too simplistic in gameplay to justify a pre order or day one purchase in my opinion unless the story and art design help make up for that simplicity.
Who knows though, if callisto turns out to be a masterpiece I may pick it up day one, however there has been so much hype around this game and clear bias from game sites, that it will require some heavy reading between the lines and contrast/comparisons to discern the true quality of the title beyond the likely confirmation Biased review SCORES incoming.
it looks great to me! cannot wait for this to appear on PS Extra lol
Evil Who? Unless Ragnorok is in the title then NO!
Sale or PS Extra seems about right, but eager to check it out. Reviews don't seem to justify the $60 price tag
I do fancy it some… but I t looks to me like the kind of ‘I’ll wait until I see until I see it for £20 vibe’ to me.
@meistergeister that restriction is going to limit you pretty significantly
It's been on my radar ever since I first saw it in action. An alternate history cowboy vampire slaying action game? I can't think of a better pitch for a game I might be interested I'm. Only reason I haven't started it yet is I'm still working on God of War (starting to feel a bit too long where I'm at).
Highly looking forward to trying Evil West soon though!
Waiting for a sale and a diminished backlog
I have 10 plus games in the backlog so not yet.
Thanks to people like this are why companies have 0 balls to drop classic-style games from the Ps3/Xbox era. If they don't see sales it's impossible. And we will keep seeing the same recycled AAA games.
It'll be 50% off in 3 months or less.
Sure did. Looks dope albeit old school. I haven’t had time to play much though.
Not yet but i do plan on buying it.word up son
Didn't expect GoW to be so big. Evil West will have to wait, but defo getting that next!
Was tempted but looks like the kind of game that will hit PS+ or Game Pass in a couple er months or so.
I will buy it on a sale or smth. Thay lazy 1080p contributed to my decission
I pre-ordered on Amazon but the site says estimated delivery is Dec 19. I didn't realize there was such demand for this that it's sold out and I have to wait a month for it to be delivered.
Not gonna lie, the 1080 graphics put me off buying it at full price. Hoping it comes to GamePass or PS+ extra. I’m also hoping the devs can better optimise it by then.
Yep, got it and managed a couple of levels before work. The combat is really fun once you get your kit and I adore the setting. If the quality is consistent throughout the campaign then this might be top 5 for me this year.
Nothing about this game tickles my fancy, unfortunately. I won't say I'll never play it, but it'd... be pretty far down the list for me.
I decided to pick it up as I got the Platinum on GoW Ragnarok and just need to do the speed run on Return To Monkey Island so nothing major to focus on. Thus far I’m really having rather fun and despite the levels being simplistically linear and the enemies rather repetitive the combat feels solid and punchy, the visuals surprisingly good and it never feels like it’s trying to be anything other than a dumb, fun Wild West/Horror hybrid that evokes Bulletstorm in that I can see time treating it well and it becoming a “niche cult” gem.
Bought it and installed it but I haven’t started it yet.
Had never even heard of it till today.
After spending $140 on MW2 and Ragnarok, I had to cut back on the spending hahaha
I signed up for GameFly
1 disc/30 days free or 2 disc/$13 a month for the first 3 months
I have Elden ring and Evil West on the way.
Afterwards I’ll probably rent NFS Unbound and Callisto Protocol without paying full price. It’s seriously a great option for playing games as soon as the release without the $60/$70 commitment.
Had it preordered and loving it so far. I miss these games but as here, resetera etc have shown if your game isn’t open world with hours upon hours of filler so people can feel like their getting their moneys worth while complaining nonstop about said filler as well as pacing, length etc your game isn’t going to sell. During the ps3 gen these types of games would have sold and got sequels but the ps4 gen came along and made almost every game open world to the detriment of most games and now people think 12 to 15 hours of fun isn’t worth it.
@theGoodChap I can feel your pain, don't know if my backlog is that long but definitely enough to hold me over winter, without a new purchase.
Evil what? No, I did not buy that.
I gotta get through Ragnarok first then yes absolutely I'll buy it! Cowboys and vampires go together pretty well! Ever seen from dusk til dawn?
No it looks like a £20 game alot of poor reviews & it just looks boring
These games are perfect for PS Catalogue.
I played and really enjoyed Shadow Warrior 3
Got it, played it and like it a lot. I guess it's the western vampire/werewolf monster vibe that peaked my interest. Gameplay has an enjoyable loop and the lore/story is quite deep and I like that stuff.
To be honest, I never even heard of this game. I have no idea what it is.
I had it pre-ordered and I'm not disappointed , it's great so far
I had planned on pre-ordering/buying day one, but after seeing the reviews and gameplay I will now wait for a $15-$20 sale next year during Black Friday 2023.
Only getting this if it goes on ps plus premium or extra
On PC and it was £28 ... Good price for a no brainer action game...fun and enjoyable...
Nothing amazing , nothing poor.
