Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is out now on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. The licensed action game is Square Enix's second attempt at adapting a beloved Marvel property, but unlike the ill-fated Marvel's Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy has been very well received right off the bat.
"For as much uncertainty there has been surrounding Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, the final game has delivered," reads our 8/10 Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy PS5 review. "Fun and frantic combat provide the basis for a long, extremely enjoyable campaign featuring the characters you love and the tracks your kids usually screw their noses up at. A great title that deserves to be expanded upon in the future." Good stuff!
But as always, we want to know if you've snagged a copy of this latest blockbuster. Cast your vote in our polls, and then let us know your plans in the comments section below.

Thought the trailers and gameplay looked pretty terrible tbh, but from what i’ve read it sounds like this is a must buy.
I remember after the initial gameplay was shown that the game got a lot of flack - glad it's getting good reviews. I've only played the first 30 minutes or so but so far it's been really fun exploring the ship and hearing the conversations amongst the crew
From what I've heard/seen not worth a full price . Probably pick it up when it's in the sale.
I've never seen the movies but I'm still enjoying it.
I like the raccoon thingy.
If it's Insomniac's, probably day one but given that it's not, maybe once it reaches the bargain bin price tag.
So far really loving the game. Feels like a mix of Uncharted and Mass Effect. The dialogue is amazing.
@Anke that racoon thingy! Hahaha! Brilliant!
I’ll wait for a few patches, maybe it will be on some holiday sale by the time I get to it
Looks pretty good but also looks like it will get even better in a few weeks.
I bought both this and Avengers pre-order for my son's birthday. He still loves Avengers, despite the reviews (and, having played it myself, I can see why the bad reviews, even if I don't totally agree with them, as I enjoyed it, not the greatest, but enjoyable nonetheless). But I'm happy to see this getting good reviews. Love Guardians, but I'll let him play it first when he gets home from school!
Forgot about this game existence til now
I’ll pick it up in a year or so when it’s like 1/4 of the price
It's not my bag, man.
It's kinda like the perfect PS Plus game - I don't want to buy it but I wouldn't mind giving it a go if it just magically appeared on my console one day.
Did you buy Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy?
I am Groot.
Are you a Guardians of the Galaxy fan?
I am Groot.
I’ve spent a few hours with it so far and it’s a lot of fun with a good story, not sure what more a game needs.
I pre ordered a month ago from base.com (cheapest price around for the standard PS4 edition £44 inc free delivery).
However, the delivery was late to their warehouse, so I won’t get my copy until tomorrow.
I do really like the films but Starlord in the trailer totally put me off. Less Chris Pratt and more Absolute Prat. It was very try-hard and embarrassing, like David Brent was playing Starlord, or Colin from The Fast Show.
Had it preordered. Just want to finish Far Cry 6 before I start.
I got it for 35 so definitely worth that. Its great so far on chapter 4. Probably going to be in the top five games of the year for me
The game has a lot of heart a conversation takes place between two characters that imo rivals tlou2 in sadness.
It looks good, but it also looks like it has "Black Friday" sale written all over it.
This is every bit the kind of game I want to see more off - not trying to nickel and dime us, just providing a rip roaring excellently considered and surprisingly deep player experience.
These dev's have a great track record and I was pretty sure they would succeed in bringing a worthwhile game, which they absolutely have.
I hope this makes a decent profit so that Square Enix get the message - good games make money, but designing a game with the intent to make money is doomed to failure (Avengers sic)
Haven't been this engaged in a game since last year's tlou2 and I played a lot of games this year awesome experience so far
After how lame the Avengers game was I expected this to be a lazy gameplay loop of fighting robots in 3 different colors as well but I have heard good things so I might give it a shot down the line.
Im still surprise over all these fantastic reviews for the game. I wasn’t impressed with the first gameplay videos back then…
Gouging to buy the game next year when the price is a bit lower.
@Bingbongboyo Aww, best dad ever!
I rented it. Maybe one of the options next time.
Also a fan of both.
@Divergent95 haha! I couldn't let him come home from school and have him watching me play his birthday present, now could I? Haha!
Not yet but i definetly will.word up son
It actually looks like something I'd enjoy gameplay wise but I have no interest in the property itself. When it comes to comics my interest are pretty much Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, and Superman. Anything outside of those four rarely click with me.
I'm trying to finish a few before I pick up anything else but I definitely want to play GOTG
@Bingbongboyo Indeed xD
Gamers dads are the best, especially when you can trash talk a game with your son, without it being "weird" lol.
@Divergent95 ha, yes, very true!
The first film was fun, but that's about the extent of my appreciation for this property.
If I do get this, it'll be in a deep sale years down the road.
So Quill is a West ham fan according to the sweatband on the bedside chest
No I am renting it
After the reception for the game I just had to buy it, coming today!
Will pick it up on sale. Looks decent.
@Agramonte Do the developers get any money of rentals? Or is it like the secondhand market?
There was no option for yes I did buy it ,but because royal mail are total ***** it will come tommorrow, even after having it preordered for 2 weeks 🙄
Tbh after the underwhelming Marvel’s Avengers this wasn’t really on my radar. However, after seeing the mostly positive reviews I will now pick this up at some point.
Waiting for a price drop. Mainly because ive got plenty to play right now and waited for reviews
I have no interest in the game at all, but I did like the movies.
Another game that get 8of10 from Pushsquare, I always wonder, if there is another score game can get... in other words, what game it must be to get 9+?
8of10 always reminds me of that disgrace made to Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart...
anyway... after debacle of Marvel Avengers I'm quite skeptical about another Marvel and Square Enix games...
Top game and fun
Performance resolution is pretty bad but I just play in 4K
Massive difference
Had it pre-ordered. Love the first movie (never saw the second) and only two chapters in but like the game a lot so far. Basically what I wished Avengers had been, a single-player, story-driven game.
Absolutely. It's awesome, it feels like a first party PlayStation game in a lot of ways.
Wasn't going to, but I ended up getting it and it's really good so far. Gameplay is ok, but the dialogue is very good. Basically like mass effect. Haha
I bought it yesterday, and played through a few chapters. But this is great, exactly the kind of game I like. A fun, funny, action adventure game with great characters, awesome graphics, and it's not open world hallelujah!! Some of the facial animation is incredible too, quite possibly the best I've seen.
Excited to get back to it today!
@Flaming_Kaiser Not sure. It is GameFly, and they serve all of the US. Assuming they are under a licensing deal like BB back in the day. If they are randomly buying thousand of games for 4 systems not sure how it makes sense.
I'm not a massive Marvel fan, but the gameplay looks alright tbh. I'll probably give it a go somewhen.
Once it gets to half price, I’ll be all in.
I plan to buy the game since it has good reviews, but at a later date since I still have some games to finish.
I was sold on it when reviewers were comparing it to Mass Effect. I'm getting it next year when it goes on sale.
Yeah, I bought it from a physical retailer yesterday. Played through a few chapters last night, game's alright! Encountered a few technical issues so far and the game does not run 100% smooth on PS5 despite having the performance option enabled. Nothing major but still.
@djlard I've seen plenty of games score lower, and the consensus seems to be that 8 is a reasonable score for this one. Plenty of games don't get a review at all, so it seems reasonable that the majority of those reviewed get at least a 6 (because why waste time on games that nobody is going to care about), and a perfect score is hard to achieve.
I guess the question is why you care so much about the score, when there's a decent number of words above it giving a much better feel for whether it's worth your time and money?
I'm a little bit surprised so many people seem surprised that the game turned out well.
I get the "Marvel's Avengers"-trauma and the general scepticism towards bad business by big publishers like Square Enix (rightfully so).
But Eidos is a great developer and while the first trailer looked admittedly somewhat seventh console generation, the second trailer appeared graphically much more advanced and highly imaginative. There was also no reason to believe the gameplay would be terrible.
I mean, it may not have looked like the next evolutionary step in gaming, but also not a pixel worse than other triple-A-games that are clearly flawed, yet people seem to buy in the millions.
Further proving my theory, that the perception of a game is in great part correlated to the hype the marketing manages to induce, not particularly to the quality of the game.
Haven't played the game, yet. So take this comment itself with scepticism.
@nathanSF Haha. Wrong Steve Harris.
I picked it up after the positive reviews but so far I'm less impressed; hopefully it gets less linear and scripted (seriously, can games stop with wrestling the controls away from me) after the first level.
loving this game so far. laughing all the way through.
combat takes some getting used to but luckily you can pause it as you select the skills for each character to use which is nice.
Loved the movies. But in all honesty I'll probably pick this up after a deep discount. My backlog is embarrassing large and I just discovered Hollow Knight and am completely obsessed with it!
@JB_Whiting If you turn the wristband you see "West Ham" printed on the back. The wristband has West Ham colours. I wouldn't know Steve Harris from Adam and guessed he was a West Ham player.
I'm enjoying the game.
Avengers hurt me deeply to much to even think about this game 🤦🏿♂️
@Migoshuro
100% dead on about Eidos. They are a solid developer. Deus Ex Human Revolution was one of my personal favorite games from them! The soundtrack to that game was just so amazing and atmospheric!
@nathanSF Oh my mistake! I just saw the name and assumed Iron Maiden bassist xD
@Bingbongboyo I just realised it says "Not A Raccoon" on his door on the spaceship
Thought the movies were average but this looks good. I like they're more like the comic books.
@OMG_Waffles Haven't finished "Human Revolution" (and therefore also not started "Mankind Devided"), which is odd, because the first "Deus Ex" is one of my all-time favorites. But I listen to the soundtrack regularly. Truly something special.
I might check it out down the line whenever I get a PS5.
@Migoshuro I can't argue with you at all. The original Deus Ex was a true masterpiece. One of my all time personal favorites right up there with System Shock and Diablo 2. Deus Ex HR was brilliant and I highly encourage you to restart it and finish it as it's just amazing experience. Deus Ex MD was in my opinion was rushed, suffered from worse writing and ended in an unfinished state. But like it's predecessor had a brilliant soundtrack. So haunting and atmospheric. Hoping they remaster the games for the PS5 at some point and one day we can get a new game and closer to Adams Jenson's story.
@Anke haha! Amazing!
I will definitely be buying once it goes on sale just for the sake of my Marvel fandom but as i watch it on YouTube i just cant get into it lol.
Was going to back to back Kena and Guardians this month but decided last minute not to buy either and I'm back to backing Final Fantasy 9 & 10 again instead. Might buy with the next pay packet
Just platinumed the game and now firing up the movie for the first time. Such a brilliantly epic game, loved it!
@Anke
How many hours it took you?
Easy platinum?
@Dr-M I did it in around 15 hours ish.
Super easy platinum if you follow a collectibles guide. Every trophy bar the collectibles should come naturally but boy those collectibles are in crazy missable places and you have one chance to get them.
@theheadofabroom Because lot of times reviewers use abstract words and my english is not at that level, so sometimes some words or idioms are unknown to me. I don't care of score so much, but just mentioned that in past few weeks I've red so many games with score 8of10, while lots of them were diametrically different (story, style, technical execution). There is nothing deeper behint it. Except that injustice on Ratchet.
@Anke Thank you for answering.
@JB_Whiting I know, I googled the name after your post and band member came up top of the list. I suspected there were two guys with the same name. Given Quill's taste in Music and him being a Missouri boy, I thing the developers are messing with us.
