Arise, Jack Garland and your weird friends — the time has come to embark on a potentially hilarious adventure named Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. The action RPG is out now on PlayStation 5 and PS4, but as always, we want to know if you've snagged a copy.
Honestly, it's hard to judge just how well Stranger of Paradise is going to perform on a commercial level. The meme factor is almost certainly there — have you seen those cutscene clips going around?! — but how soon is too soon for another Souls-like title after Elden Ring? And is Stranger of Paradise just...too 2005 for its own good? Only time will tell.
But until we can draw any meaningful conclusions, we need you to vote in our polls, and then declare your stand against chaos in the comments section below. Remember, if you're looking for more on the game, then you can check out our Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin review and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin guide.

Busy with other games, will pick it up in the future, haven't seen any of the memes.
No I can't stand the characters I'll wait for FF XVI
I do plan to play this at some point but due to the chaos of all the releases from February it's sadly going to have to wait a bit. I simply have to see the chaotic voice acting in action!
No but if I do, I'm playing it muted and focusing on gameplay. Cringy dialogue lol.
I did and it's a lot better than I thought. I'm dying to know why Jack hates Chaos and likes to scream his name.
I got it for free, but I’m enjoying it enough that I wouldn’t of been disappointed if I’d bought it myself.
LMFAO I forgot about the chaos memes. Just watched a compilation. How in the name of hell did that go through
Why did Square release this game now? I wouldn't buy this until it's bargain rack - I liked Nioh but never finished it. But this seems like an awful time releasing it against Elden Ring and its own Babylon's Fall.
Not yet, but I do plan on getting soon. This game is peak 'my trash' and I'm looking forward to playing it.
I'm kinda interested in it but there's just too much to play at the moment.
@get2sammyb same here. Also applies to Ghostwire. Intrested but im only just wrapping up on Horizon, moving onto Dying Light 2, then Cyberpunk 2077
@Bentleyma Same, but its actually not bad once you get past the 2nd boss. I'm looking forward to playing co op with some friends tonight
If it was a dry gaming season, I would definitely have picked it up. After immediately shelving Horizon 2 and Dying Light 2 for Elden Ring and then revisiting some PS3 gaming, I don’t have the time or desire for it right now.
But I’ll certainly add it to the collection at a later date. The connection to the first FF on NES and Garland really interests me.
@get2sammyb I'm in the same boat as I'm juggling HFW and loving it so much. But my friends wanted a co op game we could all play so my limited gaming time is split between The Tenakth and CHAOS
@Danloaded @3Above Yeah, the release schedule slows a lot in April and May, so this will certainly be one to look at during the "drought".
Playing it right now and it's super fun but the amount of useless loot is ridiculous - not sure what they were thinking with that.
@get2sammyb I know the Fiscal year was about to end but man, couldnt they spread these releases out more?
If I hold out for like 6 weeks it'll drop down to $40, I have learned to not buy SE games at launch because of how quick they price drop. Shadows of the tomb raider had a sale like 3 weeks after launch.
loving stranger of paradise, respite from elden ring lol
I’ll wait till it hits the sweet bargain price of 19.99.
I will buy it once the price drops down. I know I'd have a great time playing this based on the memes and the clips I've seen so far 😂
This is a bargain bit sorta game. Not one I'm willing to spend full price on.
I was going to get this on release but far too many games for my wallet right now so I'll save this for a sale in a few months.
Never been into FF games, keep trying to but they never gel. But I needed this, I was overwhelmed that I had to have it. I regret nothing 5/6 hours in and it's great (bought on Xbox as it was cheaper) it's a cracker for me so far
Just got my email that GameFly shipped it to me
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin and Kirby and the Forgotten Land are my March rental slots
Demos did not convince me to pay $60 for them, but $14 is fine.
The awful characters and dialogue from playing the first demo was a big turn off for me. Usually I can look past such things if the gameplay is good enough, but it was not for me, so get a hard pass.
I'll deff play this in about 6 months when it's cheaper. Not a game I need to play on day 1. Seems interesting and fun though!
I'll definetly get it later, my back log is pretty high
The awful characters and dialogs are the reason I love it. It’s so cringey, it makes me laugh quite a lot. And the gameplay is a lot of fun. That’s what a game should be, fun.
To this I only say....CHAOS.
@3Above I didn’t even like the demo that much, but the more I play the full game the more I’m liking it. I played co-op with my brother last night and it makes a good game even better.
I gave up on Final Fantasy after they became stupidly convoluted with ridiculously exposition heavy storylines and equally naff characters with stupid names and equally stupid haircuts. In other words a long time ago. Even the FF7 remake bored me despite me loving the original release and playing it for hours back in the day. Yes, what I’m saying may be sacrilege but hey, it’s only one opinion so I wouldn’t worry about it …
My decision whether to buy it hinged on team ninja and their anti Spotify bs. Clearly they decided to do that again, so it'd a no buy for me. I have no clue what crawled up their rear with the new gen of consoles. Nioh 2 on PS4 supported it and suddenly nothing of theirs on ps5 works with Spotify. So yeah, I'm out until they address it. They've so far been completely silent and ignore tweets or messages asking about it.
I got the plat in Horizon the day before yesterday and finally started Elden Ring properly today.
I don't have time for this right now, but I'll definitely get it over the summer for sure.
I think it's hilarious that 34% are interested in playing this and 37% never thought the chaos memes were funny. Those are pretty close numbers. Haha!!
I continue to find the lukewarm reception to this game on pushsquare interesting. Graphics were a point of contention in the review yet I don't see how it looks substantially worse than Elden Ring, which has been a huge hit. Obviously not on the same system, but it's miles better than Legends Arceus...
Anyways, it looks like a fine game. Something I'll pick up later after playing some other games or on a sale, whichever happens first.
Not yet, in large part because I'm not even halfway through Horizon: Forbidden West, I mess around doing too much exploring. Definitely interested in this game, though, will get it during a downtime for new releases and hopefully by then the price will have also dropped a little.
nah not for me, memes are stupid but kinda funny though. Long time FF fan
Elden Ring
Horizon 2
Dying Light 2
Sifu
God of war 2 is still coming along with other massive titles this year.
My backlog from this year is already massive. This is a bargain bin /PS Plus title for me
I'm gonna buy it since I love everything final Fantasy beside 12. But I need to complete sifu and elden ring first.
I'm more motivated to play this than FF VII remake. I wanted to say I like Final Fantasy, but I'm a big fan of Team Ninja, but they didn't have that option.
@CynicalGamer I find it refreshing that there is a game with cringy dialogue that is leaning into it. I don't have the same expectation from games as I do from movies and TV. Games are a different artform for writing.
I'm going to be playing the demo when I get a spare moment. Sometimes, playing a demo is satisfying enough for me as I have very limited gaming time.
@DeathlySW and what does Spotify have to do with the game exactly?
@tatsumi "And the gameplay is a lot of fun. That’s what a game should be, fun"
My thoughts exactly. Gameplay is king. Everything else is not nearly as important, unless we're talking about genres where the gameplay is limited and the focus is on the story (Beyond: Two Souls, Telltale games, etc).
Not a “big” FF fan by any means but am a fan of the older games. This looks awful.
The demo didn't sell it to me tbh, so no! Far too many other games that are taking my time up.
@Apfelschteiner this just happens to be the only game in recent memory that made me cringe. To each, his or her own I guess.
Edit: meant to say "that made me cringe too much"
I just looked at a on-line map for Elden ring, I'm not playing anything else for the next 2 months by the looks of it!
@naruball It's a game that was released on a platform that supports Spotify, and the developer pulled Spotify support for no apparent reason and failed to disclose it. Some of us like to listen to music when gaming and it's not like we aren't paying 80 dollars for a product.
I love this stupid game
I played the demo and did not like it.
March is absolutely stacked with big games. Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring, Gran Turismo 7, Moss 2, Ghostwire Tokyo, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. Meanwhile, I'm still hooked on Destiny 2: The Witch Queen from February.
@SAMTYLER1974 Final Fantasy always had really big stories so?
@DeathlySW sounds incredibly trivial to me, but you do you.
I am a big Final Fantasy fan, but still not buying this until it's on sale during Black Friday/Christmas 2022 sales.
Sadly I am just not as excited about this anymore...hoping to feel differently by the time I own it.
I like final fantasy. But this is not for me. These kind of paper thin characters with such ridiculous scripts just aren't funny any longer, they belong in a time when gaming was not the world biggest entertainment medium and there were excuses for low rent productions.
I've been advised that the combat can provide the hook, but in them environments with those characters I'm afraid its a hard pass from me, but I hope those who jump in enjoy it.
