Thought it was excellent. Some incredible reveals, the celeb stuff wasn't too cringe and the awards went to the right people and games. Highlight is The Witcher 4 though as damn that trailer was good.
I voted ‘very good’! It was pretty cool, though the second half maybe tapered off a little, it ended on a high note. There were some great announcements, nice performances and not too many ads. I liked the self depricating humor.
The Witcher 4, Elden Ring multiplayer, Okami, Intergalactic and Astro Bot winning GOTY? Hell yeah!
Cannot feasibly be anything more than okay. Good stuff there but so SO much filler that made it drag for years.
Some incredible announcements. Properly hype-inducing announcements.
But the show is just far too long. The padding in the latter half was insane.
By far the best year of announcements for me, I think everyone will say that…
But I still think it’s super weird how little they did awards this year. Yeah the speakers got more time but it feels like there were less speakers this year. So many awards just flew by. Still would take this year over last year for any price. I wish they could find a better balance, but I’d rather take one half being amazing and the other being okay compared to one half being good and the other half being awful.
I said I wouldn't stay up for it all week, but man I'm glad I didn't listen to myself.
That was an epic show.
🫠
Delighted to see Astro win the big one too.
Same as always, good announcements (perhaps greater ones this year) but in a way too long show.
I almost didn’t watch it since the previous couple of years were very meh for me. I don’t play a lot of the mainstream games, so I get that it’s not always going to be for me. However, I’m glad I tuned in. Overall, that was great! Some great IPs returning and nice to see some fresh ones! So happy for Team Asobe. I think they represent a healthy developer with a lot of heart. Let’s have more of that in the future of the gaming space.
Never thought I'd say I liked the awards more than the announcements, but yeah, it was a good show.
All the kudos to Astro Bot on a well deserved win.
The only thing good from this award show is intergalactic game from naughty dog.
This was quite a special one for me. My whole family (willingly) watched it and we really enjoyed it. Helped it was a brilliant show. We were on the edge of our seats and cheered for the best game award. It really was a great evening. Didn't think I'd saying that to be honest.
This year's award show has been better than any of the previous game awards in my opinion. Usually, there aren't more than one or two games I'm interested in but I'm looking forward to many that were shown. I've never had an interest in playing The Witcher 3 but now I am gonna play it before Witcher 4 comes out. I am excited about Naughty Dog's new IP. FINALLY they are making something new and it is far off from their usual creations.
@nessisonett what filler? The most I can say are the music performances but it's to keep the audience in attendance engaged instead of just playing videos of trailers and gameplay the whole time.
Excellent. Lots of surprises. I kept waiting for the GTA VI trailer and thought they might sneak it in at the end but no. That would have made it the greatest awards show ever but even without it, it was still excellent.
I didn't watch but just seeing all the announcements here and it sounds like it was brilliant. Lots of games that have a high interest for me
There was a whole lot here that is laser pointed on my tastes. Kind of nuts, actually. Okami, Onimusha, 2D Ninja Gaiden, Outer Worlds 2. Any of those done correctly are big games for me. I thought it was a great show.
A good show overall, but that was an incredibly weak final trailer to end it on imo.
Some points where my brain tuned out, but overall it was very good. New Ueda game, new Onimusha, new Okami - that is dream tier. Several other amazing things, not least of which are TW4 and the new ND game. But then various bouts of nothing. But I'd say it felt like a great E3 in general.
0/10 of things for me, bad show.
Last year was better, I still didn't care for them but better games came out in 2023 even if they weren't for me, I saw the quality in those titles, so they deserve the praise.
In terms of what I thought was interesting:
Naughty Dog's new one is fair, so a space game like the rumours/leaks.
Mafia looked fair, not my type of game but I think they are cool from a far.
Split Fiction was cool but I think their games really shine too.
Ninja Gaiden looked fair, might not be like Ninja Gaiden Z, but who knows, not my thing of a 2D game compared to others but seems fair. Could be like the NES/past titles or other similar games hard and I can't play them.
Turok Origins looked good then the group of them. If it's a multiplayer game no. If it's singleplayer and fair good.
Otherwise a lot happened, a lot of Indies, boring MP shooters, a lot of eh action adventure games and more.
The gacha games too.....
Outer Worlds 2 keeping it's humour and fair presence.
The industry has a lot of audiences it caters to and I have no interest in any of it, souls, cosy, MP shooters, gacha, a lot I just go nope skip, skip, skip, skip other than the few I remember like above or the few I think look cool but still won't play as they aren't my thing mechanically I still will give praise to those above as I think they are interesting games.
The Muppets mocking the gaming community, wasn't funny, Geoff and the rest weren't funny. BG3/Sven was ok at the end. It had moments like the Remedy one was ok but it dragged on to not be enjoyable afterwards. It had moments but mostly sucked. How much can these actors drag on with bad jokes. The award thanks were more fair though but the bad jokes. Get the actors off the stage seriously they aren't funny.
They say had to cram stuff in but waste hours, they can't have their cake and eat it too? XD The presentation felt off at times.
This year I can't say the same. But for decent trailers for IPs revived and very eh new stuff that wasn't generic trends and the handful of fair new or sequels. 2/10.
Onimusha, Okami 2 (when is Okami Den CAPCOM come on, let alone give us Under the Skin come on). A fair amount of cool, the style/combat and gameplay looked eh, I can't get behind them these days doing what they do to modernise them so I won't buy them. I'll buy the old ones instead.
Sick and tired of the same animation direction and same trends, I'm not interested I'm getting disappointed more with modern gaming being so repetitive and unexciting.
Won't talk about Astro Bot at all. I don't have anything to say but it needs more sales and that's it. Not playing it.
I'd rather play older platformers/racing games instead. Or consider Rescue Mission/Playroom more.
It was actually pretty good. So yeah, not a bad show.
I filled up my wishlist quite a bit so I thought it was a great show.
AWESOME, so many great reveals, New IPs from studios I LOVE (RGG Studios etc.) and returning IPs like Onimusha & Okami 👌
So happy that Astro Bot Won GOTY too... Deserved 100% 🥰
Very good show. So many games I'm interested in but too much to list. It's definitely way too long tho. But it's been the best one yet aside from the absolute FF7 Rebirth snubbing. How do you give it so many nominations only for it to win 1 of them 😭
astro bot.i am astro bot.haha.😄.now that song is in my head.im happy astro bot won game of the year like i predicted.it deserve it.i enjoy the game award.i was watching it while watching my boston Celtics 💚🖤 blowout the Detroit pistons.and i was watching threes company and the Jeffersons and my 1980s retro music.yeah onimusha.okami wow capcom went beast modes.mafia old country looks amazing.witcher 4 etc.rgg studio new game looks amazing.awsome show.word up son
Astrobot with an eminently deserved win 😊
Shockingly excellent and that's putting it mildly. Not only did Astro Bot end up winning the ultimate crown (as it deserved), it really does feel like they took all the criticism of last year's show to heart, with each winner being given adequate time to say their thanks, the awards themselves feeling a lot more pronounced and respected and the new game reveals being some of the most bonkers ones I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing live. Gotta hand it to Geoff: he did a pretty fine job this time around 👍
@SillyBoyJudas …….the adverts every 2 minutes?
It was honestly the best Game Awards ever. Always room for improvement, but tonight really must be celebrated
New Ueda, new Okami, new Witcher, Astro win, and Intergalactic was a true highlight. That said, where was Xbox and Nintendo? And, man, Kojima, when are we learning more about DS2 and OD? I did sort of finish the show wondering what will honestly release next year. I did like the show overall though, even if most of the games shown in the trailers didn’t resonate with me. Geoff made a quality show.
Witcher IV, Onimusha, and a new Okami all made the show worth it.
Capcom, though. Dudes. Where's the next Resident Evil?
All of the Metaphor awards were heartening. I'm glad Atlus is getting their recognition. I'm looking forward to playing it when my backlog calms down.
Started strong but tended to drag. I wasn't there for the awards, but if I was I would have been annoyed at the perfunctory manner in which many were treated.
Well put together but TOO LONG.
I saw Videgame Dunkey there, so I rate this as a success.
Best TGA in terms of announcements/trailers in recent memory. At least that's how I felt.
Capcom delivered with Onimusha.
Capcom is allowing Kamiya(Clover revived) to make a new Okami
RGG unveiled a new Virtua Fighter that looks beatiful(looking forward to the stream tonight)
RGG revealed a new game Century that looks cool
Ueda announced a new game
Helldivers 2 Omen update shown and it's out now
Hazelight's Split Fiction game looks fun
Mafia The Old Country has my interest
Happy Naughty Dog is doing something new in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet(although not all that thrilled with the character design but ehh, whatever im still excited)
Im sure I missed some but the announcements really spoke to me tonight. Maybe missing another new JRPG but im just being greedy. This is probably the best im ever going to see in terms of getting my wishes. Plus AstroBot and Helldivers 2 won big tonight and got new content for each game out now. Really happy for those devs.
I didn't watch it but i rated it 'good' with Ninja Gaiden, Onimusha, Okami, ND Intergalactic, and Astro Bot won GotY.
I should be happy about Okami 2 but it being 5+ years away kills any and all excitement for me
Voted Very Good. I really thought it was a well put together show. If not for the parts that dragged, I’d have voted excellent. I’m super happy to see Metaphor take best narrative, and of course Astro Bot win game of the year. Intergalactic!!!
Did not watch, but going by what was announced it might have been worth watching this year.
As someone who only checked the announcements and didn't bother with the show, that was the best show of the year BY FAR. Those reveals outright WILD.
Didn't watch the show itself, but just going through the list of announcements this year, definitely feels stronger than 2023.
A few too many online and weeb games in the middle but a very good show overall. Agree with a lot of the winners too. Only two I disagreed with is BMW winning Action and FF7 Rebirth for music. Both should've gone to Stellar Blade. Music maybe Metaphor since it has monk dude!
I am thrilled for the Hazelight Studios game Split Fiction. I love a quality couch co-op game that I can play with my son, and it is only three months until release. Now that is something I can get excited about, unlike The Witcher 4. As good as that trailer looked, the game itself is realistically four years away.
The announcements were really, really great. A lot of really cool announcements that make me really hyped.
Great show, every year Geoff improves it and listens to the fan feedback and did a great job this year
Pretty good announcements to be fair. Okami sequel was definitely my favorite and the new Mafia trailer got me hyped.
TGA is a fun time, maybe best watched in 'chunks' though as opposed to live.... I look forward to it each year, and glad we have something to cap off the gaming calendar.
Honestly - and this may actually be hugely unpopular opinion... - I think the Game Awards results were generally pretty fair!
Astro wasn't my personal GOTY, but I like the fact it managed to take the main award - alongside the various other awards it pulled.
Great to see Balatro sweep a few also.
Some of the announcements were genuinely exciting I thought - the new Elden Ring rougelike/co-op title seems quite ambitious, and I'm really keen to see how From handle that. Witcher4 also looks pretty awesome... and new Ninja Gaiden for Switch? Yes please.
My largest bone of contention still is the nomination of Erdtree.... even moreso that it didn't win, almost making its inclusion somewhat pointless?! Unless it was just to garner more hype for the new co-op game en route?
Would have been nice to have seen Nine Sols get nominated, but I appreciate the console release was too late (even though it came out on Steam during summer).
For the record, my personal top 3 this year: 1) Balatro 2) Nine Sols 3) lorelei and the Laser Eyes
Fun award show, and I continue to salute Geoff for putting this thing on every year... irrespective of the contentious discourse!
I chose didn't watch from the polling above.
Very good show in my opinion. Genuine surprises and tons of great trailers. Just overly long as usual, but I appreciate it wouldn't exist without all the ads.
As someone who hates cinematic trailers this was….a lot. Sure, there were some nice, day one reveals/trailers (Intergalactic, Onimusha, Witcher, Okami 2, Crimson Desert etc) but almost every single one were pre-rendered cinematics with release dates years into the future.
And then there were the big disappointments. Usually multiplayer focused which really isn’t my cup of tea (Nightreign, Turok)
But I guess this is par for the course for TGA. Personally, I’m more interested in gameplay trailers with a firm release date
This felt like waking up as a kid holiday morning and seeing all the gifties
I didn't watch it but seeing what was announced this morning was quite a surprise. The Witcher 4 with Ciri, ND making a sci-fi game and a sequel to Okami. Games to look forward to beyond GTA6.
Witcher 4 made it amazing. I’ve waited a Ciri solo game for so long 😭😭😭 so damn happy
I watched it this morning for the single reason I could skip the chuff. I've learnt this is how to make these things better. Therefore I score you very good.
