It's been one whole year since the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 as a PS5 exclusive. The much-hyped sequel had big shoes to fill given how beloved its predecessor was, and for the most part, it seemed to match expectations.
Reviews were incredibly positive, and the title ended up winning some Game of the Year awards a couple of months after it arrived. Generally speaking, it was regarded as a 'safe' sequel — the follow-up to an established blockbuster that didn't necessarily have to make any meaningful changes to the formula.
This was pretty much our own take of the title, with our Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5 review calling it "familiar but fantastic". We gave the game a 'great' 8/10, concluding: "We do have some minor criticisms about the story, and the combat does become repetitive eventually, but this is overall an absolute blast full of moments that'll surprise and delight."
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is also one of the highest ranked releases of our Best PS5 Games list, which is completely user-rated. It currently sits at a very impressive user rating of 8.7.
But now that we're 12 months down the line, how do rate Marvel's Spider-Man 2? Is it one of the best games on PS5? Is it the sequel that the first game deserved? Vote in our poll, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.
How would you rate Marvel's Spider-Man 2, one year later? (3,036 votes)
- It's a fantastic game
- It's very good
- It's solid
- It's just okay
- It's disappointing
- It's a bad game
- I haven't played it

Not as hot on the Spider-Man games as I am the other first party stuff, so still waiting for a decent sale price on physical. It’s held its price exceedingly well so far fair play.
Annoyingly too short. Did really enjoy it whilst I was playing it but then it's over and just feel it didn't build significantly enough from the first game
Started off really good! Then a few days in me and my brother noticed we were 85% done with the story, and we were doing all sorts of side missions and pacing ourselves well. Not to mention the later part of the game was basically a rip off of Web of Shadows…It was fun though, I’m not denying that. Just a lackluster story.
I thought it was a HHUUGGE disappointment. Terrible writing and characters - why is everybody so nice all the time ? The dialogue is pure pre teen cringe. Peters voice when he wears the dark suit is beyond cringe. Peters Parker is such a limp, wet lettuce of a character, not to mention the even more cringey "Danicasts".
The side quests are ridiculous- no I don't want to walk 5 miles following your grandads inhaler scent, thank you. The quest that has you playing the deaf girl tagging graffiti is ridiculous- just let us be Spiderman !! And I don't want to solve a random crime 2 minutes after doing the last one.
And since when was playing a Spidey character akin to almost being an ultra powerful Jedi Knight ?
Players hated the Mary Jane stealth sections in the first game so instead of taking that feedback on board they introduce more .."but hey, this time let's give her a weapon ! Awesome! "
So yeah I didn't like it much ...5/10
Fun game. Too many similarities with previous games for it's own good, however.
The IP shout be given a rest for a few years. No DLC should be done for SM2.
Bring it back later with fresh ideas for the 3rd game.
@KingPev I actually liked the side quest of finding the girl’s grandfather. Felt exactly like something Spider-Man would do. And I didn’t have any gripes about his Symbiote voice. But I do agree with some of your other points.
I thought it was good. I do agree with some of the points given above.
@LavenderShroud ...but his symbiote voice sounded like my little nephew trying to be angry 🤣 it did have some fun elements but overall I was so disappointed
I voted that it is very good. I think some of the story beats fell a little flat, and it seemed rushed in some aspects, but there was a lot to love. It also has some of the best, if not the best, traversal mechanics ever — it’s a real joy to play.
Personally I thought it was meh; didn't really do much different to spiderman 1. . Suits were pointless - mostly just skins at least in spiderman 1 each suit has specific abilities. Miles morales and Peter parker played almost identically. They messed up the bad guys with a terrible story especially venom. Would have been better eith Eddie Brock and gave kraven a decent story not as some homicidal maniac
I'd say a 8-8.5/10
It's very good game but doesn't feel as special as the first one. Thats ofc to be expected from the third game within the same city with same-ish gameplay
As far as I am concerned, Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Everyone else is just a pretender to the crown.
I'm sure a lot of people are going to take issue with me for saying that and fine. I'm not here to try and convince you. But I hated the ending and I refuse to buy the next game if Peter is some nobody side character whilst someone else gets all the glory.
Id give it 8/10. Yeh it was safe but i enjoyed the story, gameplay is still great, the fast travel is super smooth. Would like to see daredevil and punisher turn up at some point lol
I loved the game but I hated how it really followed the formula of the first one especially on the first half of the story which followed the quest structure of the first game but changed the characters.
I'd say it's a 8/10 game.
I enjoyed it, had fun, have no desire to return.
Spider-Man 1 was revelatory and thrilling and Miles was a pretty exciting showcase for the PS5.
Spidey 2 ran into the same problems this gen as the Horizon and God of War sequels: it just felt like it all had been done before and was more of the same (in some ways, it was even less).
I dont regret my time, I enjoyed it a lot (a solid 8 or 8.5), and I’ll be there for the next one. But I really hope we see something really exciting again.
Story and characters were a huge disappointment, I was very let down and underwhelmed. The wing suits were great and really enjoyable, but overall it felt like a game I had already played
@LifeGirl Personally I feel the exact same way you do it's one of the reasons SM 2 was such a let down for me that and providing the most perfect casting for Venom there's ever been and then cutting 90% of his screen time 😅. And personally I reeeeeeeeeally don't like Silk so finding out she's being shoehorned into Spider-Man 3 made that ending even worse for me 😅
It's a solid 8. Worth mentioning in the Game of the Year categories, but was never going to win whilst Baldur's Gate 3 was in the equation.
I completed SM2 in about 20 hours. and I don't plan on playing it again.
I've done over 1300 hours in BG3, and still plan to do another run. That says it all at the end of the day...
The DLC was really good for the first one. Personally I need a break from spiderman but shame they didn't do the same for the sequel. The game had issues and some trimmed dlc could of been good.
I loved the gameplay but the social justice crap did my head in honestly. Leave us alone lol
I'm just waiting another year for the remaster
I give it a 7. Decent, but far from excellent. Definitely not a GOTY.
I really liked it but it’s about as good it could get, not sure where they can take it now other than more of the same.
The web wings but were too much, spent the entire game gliding and not swinging.
People love the idea of Venom, but nobody likes any representation of him in any media other than comics.
Too short for a sequel
It’s very good. I loved it! But not in my top 10 games I’ve played.
I give it a 8 out of 10. Really good game so hoping insomniac aims for more in the next game
I enjoyed it but multiple things held it back for me, for one it was playing it too safe with with activities(I skipped it when I did everythingin the first game), the stealth was a downgrade(Stealth tools are gone for some reason) and very easy to exploit the AI(Since they are too stupid to look up, the ending bossfight, MJ being overpowered against trained soldiers of Kraven, the ending bossfight being anticlimactic, and the Venom not being long enough.
I tend to just fart about in these kinda games so itll last me ages 🤣
disappointed. The biggest criticism from the first game was the missions involving being "on rails" as side characters like MJ, etc.
What did Spider-Man 2 do in light of that critique?
DOUBLED DOWN.
I think I'd have to mark it as "Solid" even though I overall thought it was disappointing.
I expected the game play loop to be similar as the prior game(s), but what really irked me was the treatment of the characters, especially Peter Parker. It's probably been said 1000x here an elsewhere, but they really neutered him in favor of pushing some other, lesser characters to the forefront. I felt like it was more like Spider-Therapy at times. Mary Jane was....pretty lame. Miles was great, but being set-up to replace Peter is overall stupid IMO. The writing was just forgettable and felt (dare I say it) woke.
Great game play, though, and traversing around the world was as fun as ever. However, I think they should have saved the wing-suit till later in the game. Getting it right off the bat made me feel like swinging was kind of pointless.
As a fan of Spider-Man comics for 20 years. I absolutely loved this game. It was very short yes, but the production value was fantastic. The story is on par with the first one, which already had a great narrative. If every AAA games and comic book adaptations could look like this I would buy all my games day one.
I didn’t like the bits with MJ or the deaf girl where you were forced to play as them. Would have been better if those characters were developed better, their missions were optional/side objectives and gameplay in a better context. Also although the wing suit was cool took away from the Spider-Man ness of it all. It was still enjoyable but could have been so much more, I’d give it a 7/8 out of 10
@Jedihillis Yea totally agree re the wing suit, or maybe if it had been an end game unlock that you had to complete x missions for or something would have made it better
Hot take: Could be the worst game to ever win GOTY (and in a year that was incredible too with a multitude of wonderful releases).
People complain about Ubisoft games, but this is the closest Sony’s been to hitting the Ubisoft formula. It’s an ok game, but a very safe follow up to an already safe game, and a very concerning title with regards to the future of Insomniac, in that it’s inevitable they’ll be chasing safe Marvel games moving forward rather than innovating as they did with games such as Ratchet and Clank and Sunset Overdrive because it’s more profitable. It’s a 7/10 game at best. I hate to be so negative on a first party title, but this was the only 2023 release from Sony, and honestly I can’t think of another year that disappointed me so much from the console on the first party front.
It was great on a technical level, looked and played nice, but writing took a huge hit. It was like developers thought "the first game was too mature, let's add some dumb ***** for kiddies". And boy they did. And not to mention Peter's new face. When he was on a date with MJ it looked like sugar mommy was walking her baby.
@Dalamar I will never get over the massive face downgrade. I really loved Peter’s old face, he looked like a dorky guy that had been Spider-Man for years now.
I think we tend to over expect most of the times. First game was great, and I think no one really expected to be so blown away. I personally loved the story, they could just script and film.
So the second one we get a 2nd playable Spider man, bigger map, new mechanics, new skills etc.
We don't need a game that just flips the world upside down every single time, innovating everything. The game is super solid.
@KingPev that’s pretty much how i felt. I couldn’t ever bring myself to finish it. None of the characters are interesting and they all look and sound bad. Also having sheds played this exact game twice before with the first two games it’s just busy work at this point. I just played all the way through Mad Max from 2016. That games was way more fun and entertaining than Spider Man. But that’s just my thoughts.
Reading most of the comments here is pure entertainment. So, the game that was up for several game of the year awards, was voted best of the year by this very community, has a freaking 90 on metacritic is supposed to be mediocre? Sure, sure.
I firmly believe that people are influenced by others more than they realize or care to admit. The complaints arose when people realized that Peter Parker would be replaced by Miles Morales. Just like they hate when a white character in a tv series/movie is replaced by a black actor ("we will not be replaced" and all that jazz) .
I Just think Kraven should've been venom. Would've made much more sense & Harry / the suit could be other playable characters in other games.
The suit could have been corrupted by Kraven and become Venom.
Too short and super easy
@naruball I think the stories had more low moments than the first, but overall we got a bigger game with new mechanics, another playable character with his own set of moves and storyline.
Not a perfect game, but a very good one. Looking for a cheap disc version to have in my permanent library.
I think the concept of a Spider-Man game is actually very limited. If you think about other games you can take your character and put them on a horse, or in a car, or speedboat or jet pack or whatever, and place them in the Jungle, Desert, Space or depths of hell.
Spider-man swings on webs in New York, and that’s hard to spin into 3 games.
I thought it was fantastic. Great story, great presentation, great gameplay. Popcorn food of the highest quality. Had an amazing time playing this with my son.
@F1at8mot0 ...yeah loved that too. Fond memories of that game !
@naruball it was super polished, great graphics and the traversal was fantastic. I have no issues with MM at all, I read the comics when he was first introduced and the Spider Verse movies are stunning. But SM2 the game was so bland and dull with lame characters due to the writing. I wanted it to be so much more
I really loved it. But I enjoyed the original more
@MrGawain
I think you make an interesting point, but in my perspective it all comes down to the story. You can take the character to other cities / worlds. The sky is the limit. But it all really depends on how creative the devs allow themselves to be.
Maybe it's because I'm from the audiovisual "world", but I'm just a believe that creative stories are the prime point. A decent gameplay is mandatory in order to not work against the overall experience and break the vibe. But if the story is good, creative and you get hooked, then the environment becomes secondary (to me, obviously).
It was good, well put together but it didn't grip me as much as SM
Gameplay etc was really good again but the story was a bit underwhelming.
Technically the game is amazing (no pun intended 😂) - swinging through built-up environments is very demanding on the console, but the PS5 manages it superbly. For actual gameplay/missions I thought the game was solid but nothing special.
8/10 game . could’ve been dlc to the first game in terms of how little it improved over the first. i think both games are 8/10
I didn't expect to like Kraven so much
Felt like the best of both worlds between SM1 and Miles.
Fun gameplay and powers
Interesting villains
One of my favorite games on PS5
One of the most disappointing sequels I've ever played.
Do folk actually pay attention to the stories in these games 😀
Decent 7/10, great traversal and combat bogged down by an awful short story and a lack of the main villain the games entire hype cycle was based around.
Also handled dual protagonists worse than games 2 generations older (GTAV) and failed to level up the open world or its structure in any meaningful way.
Big changes needed for 3.

Finally got around to beating the Remaster of the first game, and I'm working on Miles. Hoping to get to 2 maybe some time next year when I find a copy on discount.
@naruball I would have felt the exact same way if Peter was being replaced by the very white Scarlet Spider.
Racism is just a lazy cop out excuse.
@naruball I mean I loved Miles in Spiderverse but in Spiderman 2 and Miles Morales I was just not that much of a fan of him. Would definitely prefer it if Peter was still the main Spiderman in future games.
It’s a really good game for sure. The boss fight with The Lizard is one of the best, most well designed and well balanced boss fights I can think of. It has a little bit of everything in it and is an absolute blast. And Venom……!!!! How fun was that to not only fight him and see those cinematics with him, but play him as well!!! OFF. THE. CHARTS!!!!
@naruball My only real complaint is the story being too short and pacing getting bad. I could not care less about reviews.
@DETfaninATL Agreed! The Lizard was tough, but so much fun! And just swatting everyone away as Venom was great!
I really enjoyed Spider-Man 2018, but I couldn't bring myself to pick this game up. It all just looked the same to me. I find myself playing more indie games that try something new and experimental rather than AAA games that all start to feel the same.
I gave up at the 2nd MJ mission. Started badly with all the bugs and glitches and then the side content kicked in that seemed to be written by a 4 year old.
I was absolutely flabbergasted that a first party triple A title could be so bad from Sony.
Except for Rebirth all of my game purchases have been on Steam since, and that is a first since PS1 launched. Between this and Ragnarok I lost a lot of faith in Sony and their plans for the future.
Fingers crossed that it's a cool $20 somewhere on black friday. Otherwise i will keep waiting them out.
@naruball Amazes me that people still think review sites give honest reviews and aren't just giant advertisements for publishers that invest in ad space on those review sites.
7/10 enjoyed swinging around the city and loved the way fast travel worked, zooming into the map already on the move was great. Graphically it looked near on identical, to me at least to the PS4 game, combat was ok but still not enough impact for a dude who can lift more than 2 tons. I don't care much for Miles and they did very little with Venom, very little with Kraven and very little with the goblin. I can barely remember the story and why oh why did we need evil white man invading on black culture? Was it really necessary to include our current politics and social situations in a Spiderman game that has no relation to our world outside the city it's based in?
Just like someone else mentioned. This, Forbidden West and Ragnarok are great looking and fun games to play but so by the numbers and derivative of the previous game they barely need to exist.
Its a very good 8/10 game but pretty underwhelming at times with a short rushed story, poor stealth and a feeling of the game being incomplete. It does a lot right mind you as visually its incredible, the bigger city is fantastic, tons of suits and great set pieces but despite all that it lacks what made the first game so special.
@Fishnpeas Amazes me people still say this without any way of backing it up. I guess WB didn't learn of this trick with Suicide Squad 🙄
@Fishnpeas Agreed!! I don’t understand why everyone just has to take those stupid review sites to know if they’ll buy a game or not. Just play the damn game and make your own opinion!
@naruball Bioshock Infinite got the same type of acclaim but most agree now the game was never as good as people tried to make it out to be. Spidey 2 got GOTY nods but even at the time most laughed at the idea that it could be considered.
I'd give the game a pretty solid 8. Story wasn't as good as the first game and some of the side content varied.
I think it's fine, but this game and Horizon: Forbidden West have come to symbolize modern PlayStation's worst tendencies when it comes to their massively budgeted single-player games: a bland, focus-tested, and very safe vision to appeal to the largest possible audience with no thought for risk, niche appeal, or edginess.
With this game specifically, my biggest issues were the ho-hum story and boring writing. The symbiote storyline did not mix very well with the Kraven stuff, the pacing constantly got in its own way with pointless padding like the stupidly long science institution sequence and those awful MJ missions, and Insomniac continues to write the blandest dialogue in human existence. At this point, I think Insomniac's writers lack any talent for witty and fun dialogue with a slight edge. All of their recent games feel like a children's show with their blatantly stated morals and themes that lack any kind of subtlety or nuance in their delivery. Hell, even old episodes of Thomas the Tank Engine had way more of a rough edge to them than these recent Insomniac games.
🕷 spiderman 2 is a excellent game.word up son
I went through the game again today and it’s my favourite spider man game I just have so much fun with it I also have fun with the other games but this one just feels incredibly special to me
@naruball Most of the negativity is coming from either Playstation haters who hate to see Sony make successful games or Marvel Haters who would rather Insonmiac make something else.
But as you say the facts are there that this game is a Metacritic "must play" with a 90 rating and a user score of 8.8, there's no hiding the fact the majority enjoyed this game and rate it highly.
Still haven’t played it, likely will not. Enjoyed the first game, and thought MM was the better of the two. No desire for more Spiderman at this point. Wake me when Wolverine is ready though!!!
It was fun swinging and kicking around, but I would never replay it. For me, the story was kind of uninteresting. Around the halfway point of the game, I often found myself watching a movie rather than play it. I swear, Miles Morales was more fun to play with its christmas setting.
@RBMango totally agree. That was my original point. Why was everybody so nice all the time ? Always saying the perfect thing. No edginess or dark vibes to it at all
Technically probably the best PS5 game alongside R&C; excellent story lines and amazing set pieces.
The main venom arc towards the end of the game could have been a bit longer, and the symbiote army enemies werent the best, but overall a very very good game.
@LifeGirl So i guess Barry Allen isn't The Flash to you? Johnny Storm isn't The Human Torch? Carol Danvers isn't Captain Marvel? Harry isn't Green Goblin? Hal Jordan isn't Green Lantern? Tim Drake isn't Robin?
The idea of Spider-Man being anyone and being more then just Peter Parker is a reason Stan Lee gave him a mask.
Loved it, thought was a fantastic game but a little short, bitterly disappointed no DLC plans like the first.
It was good and it was nice to get more Spider-Man. But if the next game is just more of this... not sure how I will feel about that.
It was an amazing game, looked and played incredible. I had a great time with it.
@ear_wig ok.... You don't know what you're missing. But that's your problem.
A very good game. Had a blast with it the whole way through...except those pesky MJ missions!
Seriously Insomniac please for the love of all that is holy don't have those again! Please!
I think it’s a very game solid with some obvious flaws. It feels rushed at the end, the story needed a bit more time to breathe, and they didn’t nail the landing, hence the story didn’t quite hit unlike the first 2 games.
But what is there is still very good if a little safe, could have done with more variation as the third Spidey game in quick succession.
somnambulance wrote:
Personally I’d give that to Dragon Age: Inquisition which even somehow won it at the TGA’s. As we’re talking GOTY it’s still a good game, and hell I put a stupid number of hours into it, but that was part of it’s problem. It was bloated as hell overstuffed with so much awful open world nonsense. I’d take SM2 lean offerings over that any day, at least it respected my time. But that’s my hot take. 😂
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with SM2 from start to finish. Enjoyed the story, enjoyed all the characters personalities, enjoyed all the fights, enjoyed all the swinging from place to place, enjoyed all the weapon gadgets and new wingsuit, enjoyed all the side Quests, and thoroughly enjoyed the Mary Jane missions and her fight with Peter. Thoroughly enjoyed the SM2 sequel just as much as I did with SM1 and MM and that's all that matters to me
In comparison to the first a 6/10, on its own a 7/10.
I repeatedly said "please stop talking" after enduring the dialogue.
Also why did they send morgan manjaw into the venom nest?
Whatever.
I went with it’s just okay to me. Playing the first two games and coming into this one I definitely have some fatigue because all three of the Sony games basically play the same. I also agree that everybody is too nice. It’s really weird and at times really cringe. I think I’d enjoy it more if it was rated M with a bit more darker tones to it. As it is though I think I’m burned out on Spider-Man for awhile, so I’m happy Insomniac is focusing on Wolverine. Hopefully that one is rated M and has actual more mature writing
The opinion of anyone who uses “cringe” as an adjective should be discounted out of hand. Also, the traversal alone makes this a phenomenal game. Moving from place to place hasn’t been as enjoyable in a game since, well, ever. I’m completely baffled by why anyone would think that Miles is supplanting Peter, other than those who struggle with narrative comprehension. It was, and is, a fantastic game. Could of used a bit more Felicia Hardy, though.
I voted "it's solid" because I enjoyed the game quite a bit until Venom showed up. I hated everything they did with him. But the stuff leading up to that was stellar.
I have not played it, I had to force my way through Miles Morales it just felt off to me, and I hear Spider Man 2 is much the same. I think these comic book games are just not for me, I may pick it up if it ever goes into deep discount.

@Amnesiac
The opinion of anyone who uses "could of" instead of "could have" should be discounted too.
@UltimateOtaku91 If you enjoyed, you enjoyed it and that is fine. There is no need to go after people that thought it was garbage.
I am definitely not someone that could be classed as a "PlayStation hater". I have been at every single launch of their consoles since importing the first one from Japan ahead of the UK launch, hell I even worked at Sony for a few years and got my name in quite a few first party titles including Resistance.
Standards and creativity have been slipping massively for the last couple of generations, but if you don't have 30 years of reference then you won't notice it.
We noticed.
As a huge Spidey fan, I don't like all the story beats. It's not the story I would tell but that's OK. I really hate this version of Peter Parker though, nothing like the version I know and love.
The game is still good to very good though.
Loved every minute of it, the web suit was an excellent addition and still the best game to implement fast travel for my money!
It was just good fun, glitch free polished game, well worth the money.
@Nintendo4Sonic Pretty sure I know exactly what I’m missing, based on a lot of these comments, and the fact that I played the first two games. Perhaps I’ll get to it eventually, when it is MUCH cheaper. But I’m glad you enjoyed the game 👍🏼
@Amnesiac ....baffling. So if it was 10 hrs of Spidey just swinging and traversing around, that would've made a phenomenal game ?
And "could have" not "could of"
I thought they did Miles dirty. Peter had a much more compelling story, but Miles seemed to be treading old ground with another identity-crisis storyline, which we already had in his standalone game. But the gameplay was a lot better than the first one and I liked Peter's story. Solid overall.
It was a good game in isolation; but let down by poor character development/plot, pointless antagonists (then entire Kraven story-line), just a bigger map; but you do little in the new burbs; really inconsistent writing (some of it was AI-standard), some iffy character models that looked like a downgrade. I hated some of the stuff with MJ at the end... just seemed contrived - and the whole Peter and Harry thing wasn't believable. Miles was sort of wasted... and then you have 'that end'. And don't get me started on Venom - there were times of real magic gameplay, but I really didn't like the final boss-fight. The combat overall was good - but I think it's also getting a little stale too (maybe it's the fact that it's all NY). They could have done more with the Miles + Peter dual fighting thing (oh, a coop mode would have been sweet and was a slam-dunk). It is however one of the best 'movement' showcases on any platform - and the environments do look fantastic... if only there was more varied things to do in the environment (not less)
In the end, I just got a bit bored (even when NY has been transformed... people were still going about their business... and that's how I felt). I loved the first game's story, and was satisfied with the MM standalone. SM2 just left me feeling disappointed. In truth, I have forgotten a lot of it already.
Edit - overall, I'd give it an 8/10 for gameplay, but a 6/10 for story/characters.
@UltimateOtaku91 who are you to label people as Sony or Marvel haters... could it possibly be that a lot of people just thought the story/writing and many of the missions weren't that interesting... labelling people just because they don't agree with you, or that you can't conceive that they shouldn't agree with you is just a very poor take IMO.
@Lup Oops! I should of checked my grammar. It would of made for a clearer post.
@UltimateOtaku91 exactly! I just think that, in addition to some haters, most people don't hate it, but there more they read that it's a mediocre/terrible game, the more they start to believe it and they recall everything they didn't like about it as opposed to the entire (very positive) experience they had playing it. Now, obviously they either don't realize it or don't want to admit it, but there are entire studies in psychology on it.
@LifeGirl sure, buddy.
@KingPev then how did a "bland and dull with lame characters" game get a 90 on metacritic (an 88 userscore) and was voted by most pushsquare users Game of the year?
@Fishnpeas absolutely. Every single review is just an advertisement. Seems like Sony paid more for Astrobot than anything else. They must have had a lot of faith in it.
If only companies would advertise more and get great scores for their games, too. They simply haven't cracked the code, it seems.
And let's not forget the userscores on metacritic and pushsquare users voting for it. Just imagine how many accounts Sony had to create to make it happen.
@naruball ..I've no idea. I guess most people liked it more than I did ? Ya know, opinions and all that
I voted for decent. It was enjoyable enough but i didnt think the story was anywhere near as good as the first. I also didnt really take to the main protagonist as much as i did from the OG game. Put it this way. Im glad i played it but i dont feel a need to return to it..... ever.
10/10 combat
10/10 traversal - (important in an open world game)
2/10 story - Just a hot mess, too many characters, poor treatment of existing villains, Venom would've been better as only a tease with the game concentrating on Kraven Vs Spidey and then Spidey Vs Kraven in final act, with Harry & symbiotes influence only becoming a factor late in the game to set-up a spin-off
Overall 6-7/10 - Great in some aspects, good in others, but disappointing as judged by lack of will to return to it, unlike the first two which I played multiple times & likely will again
@KingPev when it's a bunch of people, it's opinions. This goes beyond that and it's a consensus. But, yes it goes without saying that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Even if that opinion has been influenced by others without realizing it.
@naruball or this is a poll about how we feel about the game a year later.
Everyone was more hyped about it last year.
@naruball yeah I get that. But my opinion comes from me playing the game and those opinions forming as im playing it. It was ok, fun in parts but like in my original comment it was a crushing disappointment for me purely because of the writing and game design. But I totally get why others like it
@buggysdad so we agree. When people actually played it, didn't feel this way.
@KingPev yup, fair enough.
We went in spoiler-free for the most part. Game was an absolute blast with some major surprises. When we realized you could be Venom - huge! - Miles and the Mr. Negative arc, Kraven fighting Venom, etc.
We had just read King in Black, so it was like that minus Knull.
There were some side-quests I could do without. Mary Jane taking down elite combat people was laughable. The Mary Jane/Scream battle was probably the worst out-of-character dialogue I have ever heard. It was painful to get through that stuff.
That said, game was great with a really clever story. I think those faults above are risks just like they took with the rest of the game to put an Insomniac spin on it. Most of those risks paid off in my book.
If I could change one thing now: GIVE US DLC 🤪
One last point: I have a special needs brother that was able to play this game due to the accessibility controls in this game. He basically plays at about 25% of the normal game speed. I’ve never seen a game do this. Great job!
@naruball no, people’s minds change when the hype wears off. Happens with a lot of things. Doesn’t mean they are hypocritical.
I can’t think of a better PS5 game to get GOTY, but Zelda TOTK was better than this in my book. Still really enjoyed it though.
@buggysdad hm... Wouldn't that be the case for other games, tough? Like BG3, for example?
Removed - disrespecting others
@Amnesiac traversal alone does not make a phenomenal game, it makes a good proof of concept or tech demo.
If what surrounds it is "cringe" then it is not worth playing.
Personally I have no idea what qualifies as cringe, but the dialogue caused my testicles to retract into my body.
why was miles gf vandalizing private property in this game with her graffiti? isnt that illegal peter should have turned her in to the police!
@Fishnpeas Indeed, nothing says "I'm a grown up" than an ad hominem. Thanks for the laugh.
@Fishnpeas ...ouch that made my eyes water just reading that 🤣🤣
@DennisReynolds kudos to your comic book knowledge 👏
Really fun, but I liked the Miles game far more than either of the main ones.
@naruball What you do in your spare time is up to you, but please bear in mind that the current birthrate is well below what is needed for any country to survive so it might be in everyones interest if people start breeding again.
I haven't played it, very expensive for a game that has been on the market for a year, like all Sony exclusives.
And I have other two previous Spiderman games.
@KingPev okay, but hearing Peter say "How bout you pop some more pills and say what you're really feeling" had me absolutely dying lmao
