Welcome, honoured Push Square readers, to what is probably the most exciting poll of 2024. Yes, it's that time again: it's time to vote for our Game of the Year.
We greatly value audience participation here at Push Square, and this Game of the Year poll really does matter. We've assembled a shortlist of 50 PS5 games (does that still count as a shortlist?), based on our own review scores and editorial opinions.
We're asking each and every one of you to vote for up to five of your favourite PS5 games released in 2024. In order to prevent our voting system from becoming lopsided, you must vote for at least three games.
Your votes are weighted. This means that your first choice earns more points than your second choice. Your second choice earns more points than your third — and so on. Consider your choices carefully!
The votes that you cast here today will have a direct impact on our overall Game of the Year awards. The community's top five games will earn additional points in Push Square's official Game of the Year rankings, which are decided by members of staff through a separate, private voting process.
What's more, the top ten games will be showcased in a community-focused Game of the Year article over the holidays — so make your votes count!
Voting closes at midnight (GMT) on Monday the 16th December. In other words, our poll is open over the whole weekend.
Now then, let's get down to business. Vote for your favourite games of 2024 in our poll, and then be sure to explain yourself in the comments section below.

Hey everyone, just a few quick notes:
If anyone's got any questions about our whole Game of the Year process, let me know and I can try to answer them.
Thanks to everyone who votes! Can't wait to share the results over the holidays.
Definitely Astro bot is number 1. Helldivers 2 is number 2.
1st Astro Bot
2nd Everything else
Should be fun to see how this goes. I enjoyed Astro, Hundred Heroes and Animal Well this year.
There are a few big hitters (Silent Hill, Dragon Age) that I haven't got around to yet though
I’m not sure of the exact order but the top 5 would probably include Unicorn Overlord, Astrobot, Balatro, Black Ops 6 and Infinite Wealth.
Honourable mentions and still a huge amount of love for Helldivers 2, Rebirth and Tekken 8.
#1 Stellar Blade
#2-5. Everything else.
Astro Bot for me as GOTY.
5. Helldivers 2
4. Final Fantasy: Rebirth
3. Black Myth
2. Dragon's Dogma 2
1. Astro Butt
Getting my list down to 5 was tough!
1.) Astro Bot
2.) Metaphor: ReFantazio
3.) Silent Hill 2
4.) Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
5.) Neva
1. Rebirth
2. LAD Infinite Wealth
3. Astrobot (although I still haven't finished it)
4. Metaphor
5. Black Myth Wukong
Honorable mention to Persona 3 Reload and Thank Goodness You're Here
Question—can I deduct points from FF7Rebirth’s eventual tally? After how the director put his own selfish desires ahead of what’s best for the gamer and completely butchered the trophy list (and subsequently apologized for, but lazily never patched), it deserves acclaim less than whatever it will receive.
Vampire Survivors??? I know they actually released on mobile few years earlier, but...
Infinity Nikki! Even if it’s a bit. Difficult to play in its current state. Stellar Blade was. Okay, but nothing special for me unfortunately despite how much I wanted to enjoy it.
1.Rebirth
2.Veilguard
3.Metaphor
4.Silent Hill 2
5.Already forgotten what I picked.
My top 5
Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth
Sonic X Shadow Generations
Astro Bot
Tekken 8
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
I feel like I’m the only person on this site putting Hi-Fi Rush as their GOTY lol.
No Space Marine 2 in list... Don't even have 5 games to put anyway. Hi Fi Rush didn't play but respect.
Very few big ever appeal to me each year it's always smaller games or AAs no one puts in lists anyways.
Seeing as Ratchet and Space Marine 2 are my only PS5 games played on another 's console (not buying my own for the price or lack of interest) as the console/games are unappealing to me, was an un-interesting year/generation so far. The rest I want I can pass on from prior years releases of current gen only as either too hard to play (Ride 5 as 4 and MotoGp games by Milestone have been too hard) or not compelling enough. Immortals of Aveum, Forspoken and others they are ok but still pretty eh.
Even then Space Marine 2 I thought could have been better it was too safe of a 10 year old game design (so felt bland in the PS3/360 and 8th/9th gen way, still each weapon was fun to see what next while the dragged out enemies, SM1 is fine but 2 repeating itself felt so stupid and safe) campaign and fair operations ideas but eh pacing.
That aside I found only Gori Cuddly Carnage exciting this year and bought it after the demo. I haven't started it yet.
Steam World Heist 2 I'll wait on.
Akimbot I was interested but looks too inspired by old games in a boring way and too empty game design bland many Indies do to be cough modern, so to me that's bad game design. So pass. Also current gen only, even more pass.
Otherwise what, I bought Another Code remake (bad combined experience not menu & eh over VN/Point n click OG format), Famicom Detective Club Emio (not played yet), & Hot Lap Racing (generic racer, sigh racing games suck 8/9th gen) on Switch.
If Ride 5/WRC 23 suck then I'm done. Retro only.
POP Lost Crown is ok...... Don't think much of it. Does the job.
I beat Splatoon 2 early on Switch this year. A bunch of other older Switch and older gen console.games.
My year was old games on PS4 for cheap physical, odd digital & 95% retro physical games bought, 20 or so actually finished, I didn't care at all for 2024 in slightest. Pretty unappealing year for me.
I played PS4 or Xbox One old games probably 1/4 of the year, sure my wrap up says what games in the year, but they are partial hours & unfinished games, besides even more 20+ PS2/Wii/360/PS3 focus of a year, what a year I didn't have to care about anything coming out mostly.
1. FFVII Rebirth
2. Astro Bot
3. Stellar Blade
4. Prince of Persia The Lost Crown
5. Hi-Fi Rush
Give Tekken 8 one point because of its
battle pass🤮 in a full priced game and on top of that they try to sell you a battle stage all by itself 🙄🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑👀
1.astrobot
2.dragon age
3.final fantasy rebirth
4.silent hill 2
5. Have I only played 4 new games this yea…. Oh indika.
Also It’s a crime against gaming Ys x is missing from the list
@Deoxyr1bose In my top 10 for sure. Incredible game!
It was a tough choice but ultimately had to cut off SMTV to fit in infinity nikki and zzz. FF7 Rebirth has been completely disrespected this award season so I'm putting it in 1st place
2. Astro Bot, 3. Stellar Blade, 4. ZZZ, 5. Infinity Nikki
Was Neptunia: Game Maker Revolution this year? Damn, I really should have thought more before voting…
My personal GOTY is definitely Stellar Blade, but let me pour one for PoP Lost Crown. Very solid metroidvania and first ubi good game in a decade, but went mostly unnoticed.
1. Astro Bot
2. Stellar Blade
3. Final Fantasy 7 ReBirth
4. Metaphor Re Fantazio
5. Unicorn Overlord
I would have had YS X Nordics at number 5 but it wasn't included. Trails Through Daybreak would have also been there but I'm still not finished with it so I won't include games I haven't yet completed.
Really no wrong answers here. What a great year!
1. Metaphor Refantazio
2. Stellar Blade
3. Astro Bot
4. Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth
5. FF7 Rebirth
My top 2 are Astro Bot and FF7 Rebirth.
Rebirth was hugely ambitious and does fall a bit short in the technical department. But I felt like I was on an epic journey with a party and that's been a rare thing for me.
Having said that, one of the reasons why I wanted a PlayStation AllStars sequel was because I thought that would be the perfect platform that's a celebration of PlayStation's lineage, in the same way Smash Bros was for Nintendo.
But then came Astro Bot, and somehow Team Asobi managed to scratch that nostalgia itch without losing what makes Astro special. Over that launch weekend I didn't want to stop playing but at the same time I didn't want to finish it too quickly. Just pure platforming joy.
I gotta give some love to metaphor and dragon’s dogma 2
I voted Infinite Wealth first even tho it’s a virtual tie with Rebirth because I want to give it a tiny boost that Rebirth will obviously get more of. Top 10 for IW please 😭😭😭 Metaphor was a very close third tho
My top 5 on PS:
1. Rebirth
2. Balatro
3. Astro Bot
4. Prince of Persia
5. Nine Sols
Man, this was a year where I had a hard time finding games that clicked with me, but, man, you’d never know it, given how incredible the top games were this year. Shout out to Banishers too. Even if the gameplay was flawed, the story and performances were the best in gaming this year and the game was sadly overlooked. Also, shout out to Life is Strange: Double Exposure for just being a great experience, even if the reviews dogpiled it. And one more shout out to the Platform 8 for being an exceptional single hour gaming experience. I’ll remember it more than most 40+ hour games I’ve played. 🍻 Cheers to the greats!
1) Astro bot
2) Dragon Age Veilguard
3) Stellar Blade
There are a couple of others I might pick up in January sales where the Pro patches fixed them up.
Can we really put SMTV in the competition? It’s a 3 years old game who was already nominated for awards at that time. Still voted for it in 2nd place!
Astro Bot
Dragon Age
Silent Hill 2
I only voted for what I've completed/played extensively from that list:
5 Helldivers 2 (most online fun with friends since daily Warzone during the pandemic lockdowns)
4 Astro Bot (really a 5 too, took me back to the glory days of platforming).
3 Still Wakes the Deep (The Thing fans rejoice!)
I have enjoyed many other cracking games this year on PC, Quest 3 and Xbox plus an utterly insane backlog means I'm hoping for a relatively quiet 2025 release schedule but I doubt that'll happen!
@Americansamurai1
Switched for me!
1. Helldivers 2
2. Astro Bot
3. Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2
4. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth
5. Tekken 8
Those are the big games I played this year on PlayStation in order of my personal enjoyment. Helldivers 2 dethroned Destiny 2 to become my third most played game ever behind World of Warcraft and Heroes of the Storm.
Astro Bot my personal goty but Stellar Blade is a close second, I can't believe it wasn't nominated for anything 😐
1. Astro Bot
2. Kunitsu Gami
3. FF VII Rebirth
4. Unicorn Overlord
5. Helldivers 2
1. Astro Bot
2. FF7 Rebirth
3. Stellar Blade
4. Metaphor Refantazio
5. Unicorn Overlord
1. Nine Sols
2. Stellar Blade
3. Helldivers 2
4. Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth
5. Astro Bot
Honorable mentions would be Another Crab's Treasure, Silent Hill 2 and Black Myth Wukong.
I have yet to play FF7 Rebirth since I'm waiting for the PC release.
Silent Hill 2 is the only game I played on my PS5 this year. And that's not even an exclusive, it's a timed exclusive. But whatever. I mean, this year was some slim pickins for the PS5. My Series X got most of the attention.
Lol PushSquare's GOTY is always a PS exclusive, so it's Astro Bot of course.
@ShogunRok is the game until then meant to be until dawn?
I voted,
Persona 3 Reload
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth
Still Wakes the Deep
And in 5th should have been Nobody Wants to Die. But it's not listed, so I left it blank.
Most of the list, I haven't played such as Astrobot, Stellar Blade, Metaphor, Wukong, Silent Hill 2, and others.
I haven’t played Helldivers 2 since the summer but had to give it GoTY because of how many hours I put into it and how much fun it was to play with friends/strangers.
Balatro number 2
1 stellar blade
2 astro bot
3 final fantasy rebirth
4 persona 3 reload
5 Tekken 8
On PS5 it was only Astro Bot. Nothing else caught my attention this year. My GOTY this year was Indiana Jones, hands down.
@Ajfennell77 Nah, Until Then is a visual novel that got really good reviews (including our own!).
Playing Animal well right now.. and it's reconfiguring my top 5.
@PorkChopExpress glad to see more appreciation for Still Wakes the Deep which had obvious The Thing influences among several others. And you're clearly a John Carpenter fan!
1. Stellar Blade
2. Astro Bot
3. Metaphor
4. Silent Hill 2
5. FFVII Rebirth
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2
Easy. 😸
Only played 4 on this list, so that’s what I voted for. Didn’t see Grounded or that would’ve been my 5th
@PorkChopExpress Nobody Wants to Die that good huh? Considered purchasing but with PS Plus, I always second guess myself anymore thinking it’ll be on the service eventually.
@TheArt tbf, it says “PS5 Game of the Year” and Astro made the best use of the tech.
I'm glad everyone agrees it's Silent Hill 2 and Dragons Dogma 2 in joint first 👍 that's good.
My GOTY 2024 is BARBIE : PROJECT FRIENDSHIP
Thanks to Outright Games for providing this girlie games for kids on PS5. 😊
Dragon's Dogma 2 for me.
@LazyLombax It probably won't make anyone else's top 5, and if I'd played more games, it likely wouldn't have made mine. Having said that, it plays very similarly to Still Wakes the Deep, but in a Blade Runner type setting, and I really got sucked into the atmosphere. You're basically a gumshoe trying to figure out a murder, and it makes the main character face up to his past. I've read the ending (of which there's multiple) didn't land with a lot of people, but I thought it was great.
I've played games for longer, but a game hasn't made me so smile so much as astrobot, not in a long time , so it takes my number one spot.
Game of the year goes to...
Concord!
Where is Concord? This should be SONY's goty, which will definitely leave a great mark in game history.
For me it's...
1. Wukong
2. Warhammer Space Marine 2
3. Stellar Blade
4. Dragon's Dogma 2
5. Sparking Zero
Note - I haven't played Astro Bot myself yet, but I'm planning on it eventually.
@The_Wailing_Doom Really glad to see helldivers 2 have such great success and not it looks like the player base has jumped back in, which I had a feeling would happen once the new faction was added.
@PorkChopExpress Right on, thanks for the insight! I always enjoy a good murder mystery and the setting is very appealing to me. I’ll defiantly consider it on sale rather than waiting for PS+.
@SuntannedDuck2 Space Marine 2 is on the list. Scroll down to W
1. Astro Bot
2. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
3. Vampire Survivors
@djlard Hi-Fi Rush came out the year before on other formats and made the cut, so strange it was excluded, definitely much better than a lot on the list.
@ShogunRok that’s how it should have been. Only full games. Not dlc as part of main game of the year
@Balaam_ Back in my day if you wanted a trophy you'd have to play a sport ya whippersnapper 👴🦽🏆
@LazyLombax Don't get me wrong, it's light on gameplay. The scenes you end up in is where you do your investigation, kind of like hard cuts in a TV show. You're studying items and fast-forwarding and rewinding scenes as you work around to understand exactly what took place and finding all the elements at play. There isn't really any exploration at all. Then there's moments where you'll figure out connections between everything you learn in your apartment. A little bit like the Mind Place in Alan Wake 2, if you've played that. It definitely doesn't outstay its welcome which was pleasing to me, about 6-8 hours I'd say. I paid 17 I think, and I was really happy with it. It should be cheaper now when it goes on sale.
1. Warhammer 40k space marine 2
2. Astro Bot
3. Star Wars Outlaws
4. Black Myth Wukong
5. Helldivers 2
not been too impressed with most of the new games I played this year:
1. Astro Bot (perfect)
2. Prince of Persia (excellent so far. Ubi are dumb for not promoting it better)
3. Stellar Blade (last year this game wouldn't even be a top 10 but it has decent combat and I enjoyed playing dress-up with EVE)
4. The Last of Us part 2 remastered (Still an amazing game but the three above are actually new)
5. FF7 Rebirth. (A major disappointment but the only other current release I played this year. Might as well throw it in there. Seriously, it is mediocre)
I gave:
5 points to FF7 Rebirth — a divisive game, but like TLOU2, it will be appreciated for what it wanted to do in the future.
4 points to Balatro — probably the best indie game since Undertale
3 points to Astro Bot — not as creative and expressive as Super Mario Odyssey, but an absolute joy to play
2 points to Metaphor: Refantazio — As a huge Persona fan, I don't know how I feel about this one. Part of me thinks it's the best Persona game that is not Persona 4. But the fact that I never think about this game anymore after beating is a major strike against it.
1 point to Zenless Zone Zero — I love Mihoyo games. This is way less addictive than Genshin or HSR. But I had a great 100 hours with it.
Warhammer rogue trader. It was released december 7th last year and thus was missing from the 2023 lists. It is missing now as well.
But with the games present astro bot is head and shoulders above the rest.
Trails trough daybreak was good as well as were space marine 2, Kunitsu gami and hundred heroes got a vote as well. Hundred heroes is actually the biggest let down in gaming since Elden ring (i do not and will never get the hype for Elden ring) but i have to shout it out due to the creator of suikoden passing away.
As a Portal player, The Outer Worlds, AC Syndicate, The Ascent, STALKER:CoP, and Cyberpunk. I'm just never going to catch what is current w Sony anymore, but that's fine. It's enough keeping up with my Switch.
1. FF7 Rebirth
2. Astro Bot
3. Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth
From the selection:
1. Dragons Dogma 2
2. Stellar Blade
3. Space Marine 2
4. Still wakes the deep
5. Nine Sols
For me Astro Bot
But Star Wars Outlaws Could be a Good game 🥲
Silent hill 2 for me. Haven’t play any others game.
Personally my GOTY is Rebirth. Although the platinum is probably the hardest I’ve ever gone at and the amount of content is ridiculous it’s still an incredible remake and really did deserve a nomination at the very least. And the PRO version just turned it up to 11 graphically. If you want to lose yourself in a game for a whole year it’s this one. 10/10
@Dan-The-Van oh my days that would of been absolutely hilarious 😆
I know im the oddball here, but for me its Space Marine2. Astrobot close second tho!
There were some fantastic remakes this year, but I really wanted to give a shout out to some indies I loved, so I’ve voted for Animal Well, Pacific Drive and Crow Country. Rebirth and SH2 were also awesome
Obviously the bigger more popular games will get the plaudits, but I wanted to draw attention to a few games that all made you THINK and use your brain.
Animal Well, Botany Manor and while we won't get it on PlayStation till 2025 Indiana Jones. Most games insult our intelligence, lead us by the hand like we are children, yet all of these let us engage our brain.
Animal well through meticulous game design, Botany Manor through great puzzles (with a lovely story) and Indiana Jones has a clue system that needs to be copied. You have a camera and each subsequent photo you take of a puzzle gives you a small hint towards the puzzle, not the whole solution initially. All 3 are brilliantly designed and deserve praise.
So glad Astro Bot made it! Means we get to see more of it in the future!
Astro was the worthy winner.
1. Metro Awakening
2. Astro Bot
3. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
4. Silent Hill 2
5. Stellar Blade
Honorable mentions would be Black Myth Wukong, Arizona Sunshine Remake, Infinity Nikki, Harold Halibut and EA Sports FC 25.
Anyway, why does The Last of Us 2 Remastered appear and not Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered?.
I want to play Nine Sols as that looks right up my alley, but for me the game of the year was Animal Well. I don’t remember the last time a game so totally blew me away with its creativity and level design.
1. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
2. Stellar Blade
3. Infinity Nikki
4. Dragon Age The Veilguard
5. Tekken 8
Dave The Diver robbed
On the list the most unique, wonderful game is Kunitsu-Garni. It really would be a shame if that game would not exist. At the same time it is not the game I enjoyed the most playing. The only VR game on that list is metro awakening. So, I have to vote for that next. But I would rank the wonderfule Maré and Behemoth higher. Astro bot would rank higher for me if it offered a VR mode, and the same is true for rebirth. I never played the original FF7, so for me FF7 is a new game and I really love all the characters. So, rebirth very much a top game for me.
1. Silent Hill 2 remake
2. Astrobot
3. Stellar Blade
4. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
5. Space Marine 2
Stellar Blade
Astro Bot
Trails through Daybreak
Unicorn Overlord
Granblue Fantasy Relink
Haven't yet played Persona 3 Reload, and currently at the very beginning of Metaphor ReFantazio so couldn't include them
1. astro bot
2. final fantasy rebirth
3. animal well
4. silent hill 2
5. dragons dogma 2
a pity indiana jones and the great circle has not been released for ps5, would probably been my nr 1.
watched the walktrough on youtube, amazing game
@LikelySatan
you like the portal?
i bought one for my son for christmas , looking forward to the portal experience
First Descendant
Warhammer
Stellar Blade
Let's Build a Zoo (PS5 Version)
Wu-Kong
I voted but I reserve the right to change my mind at anytime between #1+2
1 FF7 Rebirth
2 Astro Bot
3 Prince of Persia
4 Sonic/Shadow Generations
5 Last of Us 2 Remastered
That is all Kupo
@PALversusNTSC I love it. My preference has always been handheld, I play it in bed, and any performance problems are probably mitigated by me playing mostly PS4 games that run at 60. I've played it twice on the road. Once it was just not possible due to the lag (I was in the Rocky Mountains), the other time the resolution was taking too much of a hit. In bed, it's great. Since I have a household with three adults and five kids (with two others that drop in to steal food occasionally), I use it almost exclusively in my bed. I'm currently playing Cyberpunk 2077, and I've stopped several times to pick my jaw off the floor. I unironically call it the Dadstation. If I wasn't playing it, I would be on a different handheld anyway, so it hasn't really given me too much more time to play. But having access to most of my PS5 library (you can't stream any games besides PS5, so no PS3 games, for example) has definitely seen me playing a lot more than my Switch. It was worth it to me.
@SuntannedDuck2 my guy, Space Marine 2 was way down und "Warhammer 40k" 😕
I legit haven't played any game from 2024 this year 😂
Still Wakes the Deep is the only game I finished.
Silent Hill 2 is good but on hold for now until the Pro stuff gets sorted.
The most time I spent on a game was Dragons Dogma 2, but the more I played it, the more I disliked it, and I’ve quit. With that nasty taste, I won’t vote for it!
Haven't played any game from this year they're just too expensive now I always wait a year or so for the price to drop and by that time all the patches and updates are usually out as well
