Well everyone, we're coming to the end of yet another year (if you can believe it!). 2023 is almost over, and that can only mean one thing: it's time to decide on the Push Square Game of the Year. Behind the scenes here on the site, we're busy collecting staff member votes and writing our own personal GOTY articles — but for the official list, we need your help.
Giving the Push Square community a voice always has been and always will be a priority for us, and so the votes that you cast here today will have a direct impact on our overall Game of the Year awards. Via the poll at the bottom of this article, we're asking you to vote for your top five PS5 and PS4 games of 2023.
You have 50 titles to choose from — a shortlist decided by the editorial team based on our own review scores — and your choices are weighted. This means that your first choice game counts for more than your second, and so on. Please note that you must vote for at least three games in order to take part.
This poll will close on Friday the 8th December at 12am GMT. The community's top ten games will earn additional points in Push Square's overall Game of the Year ranking system. What's more, the results of this poll will be published in a standalone feature article where the community's Game of the Year will be announced. Needless to say, there's a lot on the line here!
So, without further ado, vote for your PS5 and PS4 Game of the Year in our poll, and then tell us all about your picks in the comments section below.
Good luck, and may the best game win!
Voting is now closed. Thank you for taking part!

Hey everyone, just a few quick notes:
Thanks for voting, and hope you look forward to the results!
No Forspoken? C’mon guys, while I’m the absolute minority in liking the game, at least let me give it a point. Lol.
For me:
1. Alan Wake 2
2. Final Fantasy 16
3. Resident Evil 4
4. Cocoon
5. Mortal Kombat 1
I’d have put Forspoken above MK1. Before people tackle me, yes, I’ve started Baldur’s Gate 3, but I really don’t know how I feel about it yet. I had really bad technical issues with it previously and am trying to play it again currently and, about 8 hours in, I’m not sure if I like it or not. Blasphemy, I know.
And if I include all platforms:
1. Alan Wake 2
2. Final Fantasy 16
3. Mario Wonder
4. Tears of the Kingdom
5. Resident Evil 4
…or Pikmin 4… jeez is it hard to pick between those two.
What a phenomenal year, everyone! This might have been the best year yet in gaming. I enjoyed so many games this year. I can safely say I actually loved every game I’d put in my top 10. Not just like, but loved. What a year, and Alan Wake 2 topping it off… 13 years and worth the wait in every way imaginable. It could be a game that would knock something off a personal top 5 games of all time list for me. Absolutely incredible.
wow! What a year, I put Jedi Survivor at number 5 and I loved that game. BG3, Hogwarts, RE4. Dead Space & Talos 2 for me. Haven’t even played FF16, Alan Wake 2 or Lies of P
1.)Final Fantasy XVI
2.)Spider-Man 2
3.)The Talos Principle 2
4.)Cocoon
5.)Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
Ridiculously tough year to rank! Wish I was able to play through more games to give a more informed vote but it is what it is.
For me it was :
1-Baldur's Gate 3 (even with the technical issues)
2-Hogwart's Legacy
3-Spider-Man 2
4-Street Fighter 6 (would have been higher without the ridiculous MTX)
5-Octopath Traveler 2
1) Alan Wake 2
2) Deadspace
3) Resident Evil 4
4) Spider-Man 2
@somnambulance I see Forspoken in my top 5 as well for this year. Sad i can't give it a point
@ShogunRok "We didn't include Gollum and King Kong because it would be unfair on every other game"
I think it would have been fun making a best of the worse category, there's definitely enough games for it this year 🙂
@Tamlyn Everyone can say what they will about the dialog and emptiness of the open world all they like, but the combat and traversal in the game is exquisite, its sublime, its absolutely unique and fresh. It deserves better than the reception it got.
1. Lies of P
2. Alan Wake 2
3. Final Fantasy 16
4. Baldur's Gate 3 (Still have a ways to go but I can see where it still wouldn't be my top)
5. Remnant 2
Honorable Mentions: Wanted Dead, Dead Space Remake, Resident Evil Remake.
Doubt it would have won many votes, but CoD MW3 not being on the list is a little weird. That said, here we go:
1. Lies of P
2. Jedi: Survivor
3. Hogwarts Legacy
4. FF XVI
5. Diablo IV
Haven't played a lot of the others, but my top 3 I thought were all fantastic!
Bg3 for the win, ff16 wasn't great but still second choice Copy and paste enemy skins and aummon abilities were just copies from the first summons abilities with variations on elements , loved the eikon boss battles , thought the end boss was weak narratively ]plus party system wasn't great - overall preferred ff15. Spiderman 2 was also weak at story and pretty much exact same gameplay as spiderman 1 and miles morales . The symbiote combat was a nice addition but not enough to save the lackluster story. So had to pick trails games of course . Also enjoyed assassins creed mirage but bottom 5 as felt ubisoft didn't put a lot of effort in overall. Really look forward to 2024 though Townes of j-rpgs out in the 1st qrtr
1)Hogwarts
2)FF16
3)Jedi Survivor
4)Tchia
5)Humanity
Absolutely stellar year. Yet to play BG3, SM2, AW2, LoP … all of which could have cracked top 5 but just can’t fit them all in. Its good to throw some love toward some of the indies anyways.
Teardown's not on the list, so I won't vote I guess.
Wooooo Wild Hearts is actually on the list, let's freaking gooooo. I was fully expecting this game to get snubbed entirely but I'm glad there's someone other than myself that remembers it lol. My top 5 games are:
1. Wild Hearts
2. Resident Evil 4
3. Jedi Survivor
4. Spider-man 2
5. Armored Core 6
I'm currently playing through BG3 at the moment but its too soon to say if it'll knock any of those games off. I am enjoying my time with it so far though
1. Wo Long
2. Wild Hearts
3. Blasphemous 2
4. RE 4
5. Lies of P (I would give it five, but played on PC via Game pass)
BG3 (comfortably so), Spidey, Octopath Traveler 2 in my top-3.
1. BG3
2. Lies of P
3. Blasphemous 2
4. Armored Core
5. Sea Stars
(If multi-plat, I’d insert TOTK at #3, and then have Blasphemous 2 #4 and Armored Core #5)
Lies of P was my clear winner… until I started Baldurs last week and fell in love!
1. Octopath Traveler 2
2. FF16
3. Spider-Man 2
And that's all games I played on PS5 this year. Not much. Also technically I did play Octopath Traveler 2 on Switch but it in the end it's the same game
I put "Lies of P" (great game) on my list in lieu of "Robocop" - a game which is firmly in my Top 5 for the year but which isn't on the site's short list.
For me personally, I’ve bounced around a lot. It’s been a toss up between Octopath Traveler 2, Alan Wake 2, BG3, and many more. However; my pick has to be Lies of P.
I won’t go into a huge rant as to why, but I’ll give a simple answer (again, it’s a personal opinion): I never replay games unless it’s years down the line, and even then I still may not. That’s usually due to burnout, or feeling like I did everything I wanted to with the game, regardless of a platinum trophy or not. With LoP, I immediately started a new game. I’m now at the very final (optional) boss in NG, and I plan on doing a NG+ to get the platinum. I’m not even remotely burned out which is shocking. For that fact alone, LoP is my official GOTY.
It’s awesome seeing so many people put Lies of P in their GOTY discussion. I’m glad people are loving it just as much as I do.
1.baldur's gate 3.2.marvel spiderman 2.3.octopath traveler 2.4.alan wake 2.5.dead space space remake.honorable mentions.final fantasy 16.lies of p.remnant 2.star wars jedi survivor.etc.word up son
I literally haven't played a single one of those besides Humanity. But that game was really cool so shout out to Humanity 🐕
@somnambulance It feels like every second action game is copy the souls formular, probably not true, but seeing a game with a very unique battle system is for me the best a developer can do. And I'm still think as well, that the combat system is very very good. The endboss and tanta bosses were so incredible fun to play. I pushed dmg outbut and dificulty for the endboss to max and had for 3 hours so much fun, trying to beat the endboss
@ShogunRok Why was Walking Dead Destinies excluded? Y'all screwed up
I can only vote for games I’ve actually played, so my Top Five are without a doubt:
1. Final Fantasy XVI
2. Resident Evil 4
3. Street Fighter 6
4. Octopath Traveler II
5. Cocoon
Don’t worry Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake II, Spider-Man 2 and Dead Space, I’ll get to you guys next year. That’s a promise!
I love Motorstorm ‘23, Resistance ‘23 and SOCOM ‘23!! Oh wait, it was a dream….
Street Fighter 6 is my number 1 of course. Just a brilliant fighting game through and through. After that though I had a pretty tough time nailing down the rest of the list. I ended up settling on...
2. Trails into Reverie-Trails never fails.
3. Honkai Star Rail- Huge surprise here! I thought the gacha stuff would turn me off but I ended up really liking it a bunch.
4. Armored Core 6- Some of the best moments of the year. "I won't miss."
5. Star Wars Jedi Survivor- Just a nice, well paced, Star Wars adventure.
1. Diablo 4
2. Final Fantasy 16
3. Spider-man 2
I have bought Diablo 4 on both PS5 and Series X, got around 580 hours on the Series X and 35 hours on the PS5, Diablo is my favorite gaming franchise so this was my easiest pick.
FF16 was something i did not think i would care for nearly as much as i did and it’s a game that i would play right away on a PS5 Pro. 4K/60 on this game would take it to even higher high’s.
Spider-man 2 is also something i didn’t think i would like as much as i did. I am not the biggest Marvel or D.C super hero fan. I would rather enjoy them causally in a comic book or a movie, but these games are just made so well and play like a movie that it’s hard to ignore them forever. Can’t wait to see what 2024 holds as i am sure there will be some big surprises on all 3 platforms. 2023 was amazing and Street fighter 6 and Resident evil 4 would be my last two runner up’s as they were both excellent as well.
I only voted for games that I have actually played to completion (as should we all!), and went with:
1. Baldur's Gate 3
2. Alan Wake 2
3. Hogwarts Legacy
4. Dead Island 2
5. Dead Space
I haven't yet played Spiderman 2, so obviously didn't vote for it, though it is quite possible that it would have made it into my list had I done so.
I have played 8 of the games from the list, all of which I have very much enjoyed. So my top 8 would be:
6. Resident Evil 4
7. Jedi Survivor
8. Diablo 4
The games that I own but simply didn't have time to get round to this year would be (in order):
1. Spiderman 2
2. Lies of P
3. The Talos Principle 2
4. Remnant 2
5. Assassins Creed Mirage
6. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
7. Armoured Core 6
My New Years resolution for 2024 is not to buy a game until I am actually in a position to play it because each of the games that I bought but didn't play will undoubtedly be cheaper before I do get to play them (if not already so). It is a truly bad behaviour that does my wallet absolutely no favours. A pointless act of financial vandalism to my bank account. I must do better... 😜
@Hypoman i would absolutely go insane for a new MotorStorm game, that was easily one of my favorite racers on the PS3 and outside of Forza Horizon, it’s one of my favorite car games ever. It would look and feel insane on PS5.
Resistance was yet another one of my favorite on PS3. I played the first one a lot of PS3. However i hated the PS3 controller in general but even more so for shooters. So i didn’t enjoy my time with it as much as i could have and would love to play it on the Dual sense Edge.
I wonder if Sony see’s us asking for these titles and Sly Cooper. I mean i get it they aren’t going to sell Spider-Man or Last of Us numbers but these are the games PS fan’s have come to love and for them to be forever gone is just sad. Sony is slowly turning into just big budget movie type games and while those are fun these other games i am asking for feels more like gaming to me, then quick time event’s in spider-man.
Sea of Stars, Alan Wake, Street Fighter, Baldur's Gate, Humanity
It's been a good year.
1. Hogwarts Legacy
2. Resi 4 Remake
3. Spiderman 2
4. Like A Dragon Ishin
5. Dead Island 2
Honorable mentions BG3 and FF16 but I ranked based on enjoyment rather than pure quality
Hi there fellow gamers.
My personal list of PS5 is:
If I can add other platform titles, then:
And there is plenty more great games that I can add that I´ve played and others that I haven´t.
What a tremendous year 2023 was, is for videogames.
The backlog keeps incressing doesn´t it? The life of a gamer.
Cheers and happy gaming everyone
Good to see that I'm not the only one that rated Dead island 2, @Logonogo... 😊
I think I'm alone in this being one of the worst of the past ten years. But then again it's probably just my taste.
Lots of VR2 games missing that would have been around top, but I did the best I could.
This is a stark reminder of how big my backlog is! Tears of the Kingdom and BG3 really have consumed all of the hours I have available to play this year that I haven’t played any of the other games on the list yet.
Octopath Traveller 2(!) followed by Baldur's Gate 3. Other than those, not really a great year in my book. Alan Wake 2 seems great but not my kind of game. Diablo 4 was a real let down for me, as were some other games I had high hopes for. As for Diablo, I've spent thousands of hours playing Diablo 3 and I'd still choose that over Diablo 4.
1. Resident Evil 4
2. Alan Wake 2
3. The Talos Principle 2
4. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
5. Chants of Sennaar
With a special shout out to Sea of Stars and that insanely catchy battle tune!
My personal picks
1) Alan wake 2
2) Final Fantasy XVI
3) Dead Space Remake
4) Spiderman 2 ( haven’t played yet but going to play soon 😂)
I couldn't put Alan Wake 2 as have to wait until Christmas for it but I feel I would be in top 3 if I had
My 5 are....
1. Resi 4
2. Spider-Man 2
3. Hogwarts
4. Jedi survivor
5. Dead Space
If it was an option immortals of aveum would have been 5.
Forspoken is an honourable mention for me too
1: BG3 (best game I've played in years and one of the best games ever, and that's coming from one that doesn't often like crpgs type games)
2: LIES OF P (wanted to replay for the plat because it's that good)
3: LORDS OF THE FALLEN (solid souls like with an expansive world and decent build options. Don't believe it deserves half the criticism it got)
4: Resident Evil 4 (surprised I liked this)
Haven't played armored core, remnant 2 or Alan Wake thus far but I want to.
Most disappointing PS releases of the year: Forspoken, FF16, Spiderman 2 (bad year for true PS5 exclusives imo)
I know my choices aren’t what most others are, but based on what I actually played:
1 - Dead Space
2 - Remnant 2
3 - Spider-Man 2
My personal goty is persona 5 tactica, I know its not the best made game or anything but I just felt I had the most fun playing it this year.
My second best game is TOTK and third is Fire Emblem engage but obviously those aren't on PlayStation.
This does put me in a awkward spot though, the games I really cared about this year aren't valid and I don't really wanna give my top spot to games that I just found alright, as much as I liked Humanity it doesn't feel right giving it my goty.
Completely understand why there's a cap but I'm not sure if I'll be voting this year.
@darthvirgin I'm literally having a blast with that game! Makes sense though. It's not a new game. Got a later release on PS.
Nice to see Aliens Dark Descent on the list. Absolutely loved it and has had really good support to improve it further.
1-Baldur's Gate 3
2-Spider Man 2
3-Star Wars: Jedi survivor
4-Dead Island 2
5-One Piece Odyssey
No Robocop? Also whilst GT7 in VR wasn't technically new, it is easily the best game I played on PSVR2
OK then
1. Like A Dragon Gaiden, a fantastic and emotional return for Kiryu
2. Resident Evil 4
3. Alan Wake 2
4. Street Fighter 6
1-baulder;s gate
2-alan wake 2
3-spiderman 2
4-lies of p
5- resident evil 4
to me ff16 was boring honestly and made feel sick because of awful motion blur on my oled gx
1. Baldur's Gate 3
2. Hogwarts Legacy
3. Diablo 4
1. Pikmin 4
2. Street Fighter VI
3. Spider-Man 2
4. Final Fantasy XVI
5. Tears of the Kingdom
I haven't played a lot of the big hitter new games this year yet, so my top 3 would be -
Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Like A Dragon Gaiden, Octopath Traveler 2, Spider-man 2, Remnant 2, Dredge, Dead Island 2, Trepang2, Robocop, Dead Space, Street Fighter 6, Assassin's Creed Mirage, Immortals Of Aveum
DLC Phantom Liberty and Burning Shores
Other platforms Zelda TOTK, Metroid Prime, Rain Code, Starfield
Baldur's Gate 3 I want the physical
Missing Robocop. Should be on there for how fun it is alone.
1. RE4 Remake
2. Alan Wake 2
3. Amnesia: The Bunker
4. Dead Space Remake
5. Jedi Survivor
Runner ups: Hogwarts Legacy, Cocoon, Remnant 2
Played so many more amazing games on other systems this year, too. And then a bunch more games I want to play but still haven't even been able to get to yet.
Best year in gaming of all time!
1. Final Fantasy XVI
2. Marvel's Spider Man 2
3. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
4. Like A Dragon Gaiden: the Man who Lost His Name ¥
5. One Piece: Odyssey
¥ - Could & May end up higher, just started it.
Every other (available on) PS4/5 title I've played this year either didn't make your list (Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse) or didn't release this year (Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, Valkyrie Elysium, Kandagawa Jet Girls, Blue Reflection).
@Fiendish-Beaver it was a blast! nothing groundbreaking but just pure zombie bashing fun
Only two of my top five are available on the list, so I filled the remaining slots out with indie games that I think would have been played by the fewest users. So hello goodbye volcano high at number 3!
I feel unqualified to vote in this poll because of how many AMAZING games I have yet to have the time to play this year. 2023 was BANANAS!🍌
What I have played (on PS5):
1. Lies of P
2. Wo Long
3. Armored Core VI 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
4. Jedi Survivor
5. Dead Space
And then add:
#. Pikmin 4
#. Super Mario Wonder
@HonestHick
Oh YEAH! I would love to use my DualSense for a new Motorstorm, Resistance!! 👌👌
I played only few from this year releases and out of them my GOTY is RE4 remake. 2nd is Dead Space remake. 3rd place would go for FF16 despite that I played only demo but definitely want to play this game later...
Tbh, really surprised how many people here rate Lies of P so high - need to give it a try next year I hope
1) Octopath Traveler II
2) Final Fantasy XVI
3) Like A Dragon Gaiden The Man Who Erased His Name
4) Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Cant vote as ive only played spider man 2 to finish, then played a few of others but not to comlplete. Only just started bg3 so cant vote for that is ive only done few hrs. Think this is probably a first for me not playing as much these days.
@Th3solution Nice to see someone else have some love for Tchia. I thought it was excellent
Alan wake 2 easily
Spider-Man 2 just edges out Final Fantasy XVI for my game of the year. I love them both.
I just ranked the few games I've played this year
1. BG3
2. Aliens: Dark Descent
3. FF16
Haven't played any of these, but they are mine top "looking forward". I would love to put there Diablo 4, but it is so bad I rather returned to D3 and D2R.
1. Hogwarts Legacy
2. Horizon Forbidden West + DLC
3. Cyberpunk 2077 + DLC
4. Diablo 4
Hogwarts was one of the best game surprises in years, charming and intense, beautiful and epic. Such a great fully-realized RPG. Burning Shores and Phantom Liberty brought me back into my fav games and caused me to double my playtime with each (and still going). Top tier DLC's for sure. Diablo 4...very fun, gorgeous graphics and stunning music and sound, been jumping back into it lately.
Honorable Mentions: I played Baulder's Gate 3 for about 25 hours, I need to get back onto it, I felt like I was not too good at it and the turned-based battles seemed slow. But such a well done game. Forspoken and Gotham Knights, forget what you've heard, these are fun games. Lego 2K Drive, not sure but did not grab me, been meaning to get back into it. Wayfinder, lots of fun, and art style is amazing, will return at some point. Ramping up in Coral Island, lots of promise with this cozy game. And as always, lots of Disney Dreamlight Valley, can't wait for the new update/DLC this week!
Hands down, Octopath Traveller II is the best game of 2023
By far my hours logged on a PS5 game even this year are from MLB 22 (released last year). Guess that would not qualify lol:
I'm kind of pulling for FF16 winning the PushSquare game of the year, weirdly. But I still gave BG3 the full 5 points.
Be interesting to see which of the PS5 exclusives gets the highest score this year. Come on Clive, put Peter to shame 😅😅😅
Even tho I had more fun with bg3, Im biased lol
1. FFXVI
2. Honkai Star Rail
3. Baldurs Gate 3
4. Octopath Traveler 2
I chose Trails to Azure for 5. but I haven't actually played it
Sadly still haven’t played BG3 because I want to assign it the time it deserves, so Alan Wake 2 just pips RE4 for me this year.
What an absolutely incredible year though, and topped off with a GTA 6 trailer!
I'm a Trails fan!
Aliens: Dark Descent for #1. No option for WRC23 but I'll still rank it #2.
@Kyushutrail Yeah, it was really good, especially considering it was the developer’s first major project. The music was fantastic.
I am honestly impressed with how many are choosing FF16. I thought it went under the radar pretty quickly imo but yeah it is easily my GOTY with Re4, Spiderman 2, Dead Space, and Remnant 2 below it.
My choice for GOTY :
The games I’ve actually played the most this year are :
For me, no game came remotely close to the fun I had with Tears of the Kingdom.
Robocop: Rogue city.
It is not on the list so I consider this poll invalid.
Baldur's Gate 3 for me then Alan Wake 2 and then Remnant 2, including other systems i would put TotK just below BG3 at 2nd.
@Oz_Momotaro I wasn’t being sarcastic. I really did like Forspoken. It was genuinely one of my favorite games this year. Sure, the dialog’s a bit cringy, but so is the dialog for a lot of beloved video game titles. As someone that likes a good “gameplay first” type of game, Forspoken was wonderful. I’d have put it in my list for sure. After being on this site a while, I know I’m not the only one that likes the game, but I’ve been one of the most vocal supporters of the game (and Luminous, in general) on here. I think it might’ve made it to a top 20 list if it got that deep. It was one of the most high profile Sony games and an exclusive.
I’m truly curious what our little community here will vote to the top.
@ear_wig Agreed! But 2024 is about to be even crazier lmao FFVII Rebirth, Persona 3 Reload, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Dragon's Dogma 2 is how the first three months are starting. 😬
Nice to see Hogwarts Legacy on so many peoples list. Its an awesome game and its on my list too.
as much as i understand the endless possibilities for BG3, I could not have any fun playing it, it felt too hard on the PS5 and not worth spending my shallow play time
I've not played enough 2023 games yet to have a fair say. So far:
1. Spider-man 2
2. Honkai Star Rail
3. Cocoon
4. Blasphemous 2
5. Jusant
But by far the best PS game I played this year was The Last of Us Part 2. lol. I'm always so far behind!
I don't see Atomic Heart and Jagged Alliance 3.
1. Final Fantasy XVI
2. Dead Space
3. Ac6
4. Wo long
5. Dead Island 2
It’s Baldur’s Gate 3, and by some distance. It totally blows away Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls, and many other story RPGs. My time with the game and its characters is one I will never forget.
@somnambulance Me too mate. It became cool to rag on it, but it has some really good things going for it, and I think it was a poor decision to leave it off the list...
Leaving out remasters/remakes (otherwise, Resident Evil 4 and Like a Dragon Ishin would definitely be in my top 5):
1. Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name
2. Street Fighter 6
3. Assassin's Creed Mirage
4. Final Fantasy XVI
5. Spider-Man 2
@Titntin I think this is an instance where it was cool to trash on the game before it even released and the game didn’t even get a chance. Is it a hidden GotY contender? No. However, it’s one of the most fun games this year and deserves space on a Best of 2023 list for its positives.
In order of points given:
Spidey 2 because freaking Spidey.
FF16 because Game of Thrones with Chocobos.
Like a Dragon: Ishin! because even though I hoped, I never thought it’d get a western release.
Like a Dragon Gaiden because I’m a Yakuza/LAD devotee.
Octopath Traveler 2 because Octopath Traveller.
Despite spending far too many hours playing games this year I dont seem to have played anything on the list. I'll have to skip the vote and just be happy my backlog actually shrunk (slightly) this year
Final Fantasy 16
Hogwarts Legacy
Mortal kombat
Street fighter 6
My top 5 favorite games of 2023...
1. Remnant 2
2. Street Fighter 6
3. Blasphemous 2
4. Wo Long
5. Final Fantasy 16
I don't pay full price for games so I have yet to play nay of these so I voted based on my knowledge of the games listed
@mariomaster96 I didn't vote for Octopath Traveler 2 because I played it on Switch and will probably vote for it on the sister site, but definitely a top 5 for me. I actually slept on the game for a while and just started it up after playing Alan Wake 3. I was a little late to the party because I couldn't get past the first couple of hours in the original.
PS5 top 5:
1. Hogwarts Legacy
2. Star Wars Jedi Survivor
3. Dead Island 2
4. FF16
5. Like A Dragon Gaiden
All platforms:
1. Hogwarts Legacy
2. Starfield
3. Star Wars Jedi Survivor
4. Dead Island 2
5. Master Detective Archives: Rain Code
My PS5 GOTY 2023 choice:
1. Bluey
2. Paleo Pines
3. Paw Patrol World
I only play kids games.
Not enough options/games to choose from. Why not wait a week to include Avatar game?
1. Lies of P
2. Final Fantasy 16
3. Spider-Man 2
4. Alan Wake 2
5. Resident Evil 4 Remake
Forespoken would be #5 on the list for me.
1. Baldur's Gate 3
2. Spider-Man 2
3. Final Fantasy 16
4. Alan Wake 2
5. The Crew: Motorfest
@ShogunRok why Atomic Heart wasn't included? It's good and popular game.
I haven't got around to them all yet still have Armored Core, BG3 and FF16 in my backlog. Great to see Dredge get some love but shame Robocop missed out as that is definitely in my top 5.
unpopular opinion: for me it is Diablo 4
it is one of the few games i actually bought this year (otherwise im loving the selection on Ps+). I finished it in June with one character and then didnt touch it until this month. I started playing with 3 characters and having a blast
I only got my PS5 a year ago and hadn't owned a Playstation since the OG back in the 90's. So the last 12 months has been me catching up on some Playstation classics:
Spiderman 1 + Miles Morales,
Uncharted Series,
God of War 2018,
Ratchet & Clank 2016.
It's been a good year.
Any new release exclusives I played this year were on Xbox and Switch. I plan to get to Baldurs Gate 3 early next year though. Could be a great game for playing on my Portal on the couch.

Nice to see so much Lies of P love, I was thinking "I must be crazy" because its my top game too, but nice to see is resonated with plenty of people.
Happy to see some Aliens: Dark Descent love too, I'm super curious about it will definitely have to pick it up with all the love I see here.
I remember this as the year of boring disappointments, with Sea of Stars being the only one I really loved. Why people love FF16 is just beyond me.
1. Trails into reverie.
2. Octopath traveller 2
3. Trail to Azure
4. Sea of stars
5. Baldurs gate 3
@LordAinsley yeah, as a not souls fan this one really clicked for me. The combat options are amazing, the soundtrack is beautiful, and of course I love supporting Korean devs
@Th3solution I put Humanity at number one, with Tchia just behind it. If I'm honest, these two are the most fun I've had in a year when I dropped off gaming a little bit.
@Gremio108 Good to see some love for those smaller games too. I do think having a few small quirky games can be a breath of fresh air in a year of AAA banger after banger after banger. I’ve had to mix in these less daunting titles to keep from getting burnout on the epic games. There’s only so many marathon 100 hour, ‘save the universe by sword and gun’, open world, adrenaline pumping, monster filled, chartbusting murderfests that a person can take.
Mirage
AC6
Nothing else on that list even interested me in wasting money on
I'm so far behind I'll tell you what my favorite games of 2023 in 2024 or beginning 2025. 😅
@somnambulance You can vote in the poll, you dont have to do it in a reply.
Wow, I have yet to play a 2023 game on PS5. I fired it up once (after I finished God of War Ragnarok back in like March) to play the Final Fantasy XVI demo!
Can I still vote even though I played the games on Xbox?! I mean, I guess it still counts, right?
I went with
1. My GOTY is Final Fantasy XVI. It exceeded my expectations massively.
2. Hogwarts Legacy truly everything i wanted in a Hogwarts Game. And has created strong foundations to be explored in a sequel.
3. Baldurs Gate 3. Probably the best game mechanically of them all and a deserved winner. But doesnt break my top 2.
4. Jedi Survivor. Small bugs aside, bettered everything from its predecessor.
5. Resident Evil 4 - perfectly remastered a perfect game.
@lindos I could, in fact, do both, so that I can contribute to the poll and express my opinion, just like many others on this forum did. Thanks for the advice.
What a year! it's got to be Baldur's Gate 3, Lies of P or Teardown. First party stuff was very samey and I got bored in an FF for the first time ever.
1) Final Fantasy XVI
2) Like a Dragon Gaidan: Erased Name
3) Sea of Stars
1) hogwarts legacy
2) diablo 4
3) lies of p
4) lords of the fallen
5) baldurs Gate 3
I have not played baldurs Gate 3 but there was nothing else there I played this year as much as the others I voted for. I'll probably get baldurs gate in the future because it looks amazing.
1. Dead space
2. Resi 4
3. Spiderman 2
4. Alan wake
Already forgotten my 5tb 😅
Dead Space for me. Been precious little else of interest. Very poor year as far as I'm concerned. 🤷🏻♂️
Outside of PlayStation, probably 6 Days in Fallujah early access on Steam. Very tough, but lots of promise.
@ShogunRok Thanks for making 3 the minimum. Just thought I'd show some appreciation on that.
My favorite games that I played in 2023 were released in 2022 or 2021, so they aren't eligible on this list.
I imagine next year, I will fall in love with some 2023 game releases, and it will be too late to vote for them.
