It was ok. Expectations were lower and a few decent trailers with gameplay.
Very good! It had a better surprises than the PlayStation showcase that’s for sure haha
Sonic, Spider-Man 2 release date and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth were nice, the rest was not for me
I enjoyed it, I thought it was pretty good.
Sony was bad, this was worse
Ehh…pretty underwhelmed TBH.
I thought it was good. Wish they showed a bit more Spider-Man gameplay
Weird how we got some reveals that seemed more fitting at the ps showcase a mere few weeks back but it was a good showing.
I mean could we really not get a spider-man release date back then lol
It had a full FF7R reveal... Already 10x better than Sony's showcase. And the Sand Land game looked interesting
I was actually pleasantly surprised. Expectations were low, but still, there were few cool unexpected games, some Sony heavy hitters.. full disclosure, I expected an Xbox preview show, and got Sony encore.
The Toriyama game and, of course, Rebirth made it for me. There were lots of games that could be cool but I don't think enough big hitters to make it excellent. I would have lost it if they had more on DQXII, though.
It was good, MK1 looks fantastic and I wasn't expecting Sega to be the best in show for me but the new Sonic game and Like a Dragon Gaiden are both looking very promising
It was better than last year's, that's for sure.
Being serious though, it was pretty alright. Sonic and Final Fantasy were very cool and there were some pretty funny moments laced throughout from Nicolas Cage's appearance to the bait of Doordash. It still suffered from a bunch of the usual Keighley-made presentation problems like an overabundance of a particular genre/theme (shooters+space) and a whole lot of stationary talking, but overall? Not bad Geoff, not bad 👍
I thought it was alright. It was definitely better than what Sony put out a few weeks ago. Some good reveals, and good to see FF7 Rebirth, although not sure why they didn't show that at Playstation'
s show.
Roll on Sunday, and Xbox. Looking forward to seeing what they've got lined up. With no Persona tonight I suspect the rumors of Microsoft having marketing rights are true again.
I think Geoff nailed it. So many games that I want shown tonight!
Better than the PS showcase but looking forward to Sunday more as I am hoping to see P3R there!
It swung wildly from really good to spectacularly bad. It was impressively all over the place. I only watched it hoping to see Cyberpunk, and while Final Fantasy VII Rebirth looked exciting and nostalgic and wonderful, I'm not falling for that again.
I was shocked not to see death stranding 2
Wasn't real good, but it wasn't real bad.
Very poor. Little to no VR, and a load of games we already knew about and in many cases have seen before.
Worst gaming show I've ever seen. PlayStation showcase was miles better in every way.
It was barely okay. Mainly a bunch of samey Fortnite type MP clones. Nothing new announced was good. Only thing I could care about was Alan Wake 2 and Banishers.
I wasn't expecting much but it was ok ish.
Xbox has a chance to make the best show of the year. Idk how can you do worse.
Very good compared to past iterations.
I enjoyed most of the announcements and not having a lot of ads.
His shows are honestly getting worse somehow.
I don't know how Geoff did it, but he actually made the PlayStation Showcase look decent.
About on par with Sony. Considering it was. Twice the length there was a lot of filler
@MayaMousavi Same. I've enjoyed both shows.
It was mostly a solid show tonight.
There were no new games revealed that I'll be grabbing, but a release date for Spidey, more Aveum gameplay and then that first look at Rebirth were all more than enough for me.
I'm pretty happy after that.
Plus another look at Banishers. I want to see more of that one.
It was better than the PlayStation Showcase
FFVII REBIRTH LET'S FREAKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I thought that was really bad.
FF 16 and VII Part 2 not for me so I’m left with nothing but MK 1 to be excited about for the next 6+ months. Oh well, glad I seem to be one of the few giving it the lowest rating.
Kind of weird there was an article tagged for Summer Game Fest before the event and then only this one after the event. Are there no articles of what actually went on that are properly tagged? Are they just not up yet and I'm just being an impatient padawan?
Good show. Not really much for me personally though.
It was a good event, definitely better than the Playstation Showcase though it does really bring up the question why Sony chose to split their reveals between the showcase and Summer Game Fest instead of just having a strong showcase. Highlights were FFVII Rebirth, Sonic Superstars, Spider-Man 2 getting a release date and in general that games were getting a good amount of gameplay.
It was fine, dragged on a bit but it had its moments and some good stuff shown and revealed.
Its the Xbox showcase i'm excited for though as i have a feeling MS have some big stuff ready for it from both them and 3rd party devs.
I thought it was a poor, a few decent looking games got revealed but the best thing about it was having a release date for Spider-Man 2. When that is the best thing then you know it was a bad show.
I was intrigued about the “grand finale” but when I found out it was FFVII, I just rolled my eyes as it’s not my kind of game at all but know many gamers love the franchise so I’m at least happy for them.
So now we’ve had Sony’s Showcase and this show, both were poor imo, Xbox’s showcase surely can’t be any worse but I’m expecting it to put on this year’s best showcase and completely blow other shows out the water.
Is it okay to admit that I liked the Porsche Xbox? It looked like a Rubik's cube that had been in the wash and the colours had run. Also I liked the game with the guy living under the sea
It was baffling tbh
@MayaMousavi Aveum is shaping up to be the dark horse of the summer if it lives up to the trailers.
But yeah, FF VII melted me. My favourite part was seeing the chocobo ranch 🤷😌
Pretty mid tbh... nothing terribly exciting and no Dragon's Dogma 2, but at least we'll get more DD2 at the Capcom event 😊
I'll give it the Okay. Not a great showing, but better than what Sony had to offer. FF7 Rebirth was the big one for me regardless that we all knew it was coming. My son will probably enjoy that new Sonic game. The MK1 footage was good, but I'll still hold on buying that till a Komplete version.
Very good. Gotta say I prefer the live presentation over the hollow trailer fest from PS Showcase.
Best thing was Space Marine II news. For the Emperor! (Rebirth looked neat)
Except a few samish looking medival fantasy games it was a pretty good show.
Loved the awkward hand shake between Geoff and Nic Cage and Nic walking away slightly irritated. Oh well, it pays the bills.
Surprised Sony didn't announce anything new. Maybe their plan to to focus so much of live service MP games that they only release one AAA SP a year from now on? Predictions: 23- Spiderman 2, 24 - GOT2, 25 - new game from Santa Monica, 26 - Horizon 3, 27 - Spiderman 3 etc. Wouldn't surprise me at all. The other games each year could just be live service multiplayer stuff
Let's be real, we all wanted to see that Twisted Metal clip and Geoff delivered.
I thought it was fairly decent overall. Nice variety of different games.
Gaiden, Rebirth and the Lies of P demo made it okay. For the most part, I had the showcase on mute.
Made the Playstation showcase look like a master piece
If they had cut the fat out and condensed it to around 45 minutes with FF7, MK1, Sonic, Sandland, Prince of Persia, Alan Wake 2, and a few others most people would be rating this at very good or excellent.
Jeff should call it the Midsummer Game Fest! You know... 'cause it was "mid". Okay, I'll see myself out.
Highlights for me:
Nick Cage. Even though I couldn't care less about the game he was promoting he is always electrifying.
Anything from Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
Spiderman release date...I guess...
I enjoyed it. Too much medieval fantasy for me though.
Prince of Persia looked terrible. No charm, no personality, nothing at all.
I voted Okay. It had MK1 and FF7 Rebirth gameplay and that was huge. They took care of the essentials to have a hit show.
But, it had the same problem as the playstation showcase. Everyone and their mum is making team based live service and it's oh so boring. Nothing but corporate greed driving these samey projects and they will land on their teeth.
Surprised no Death Stranding 2. Apart from that, there were some great games to be seen there.
It’s becoming more and more awkward watching Geoff sell those MMOFTPRPG mobile games that have paid a ton of money for the privilege of some stage and screen time.
It was okay. Nothing spectacular but I do have to give it Geoff, simply because he put on an ‘authentic’ show, actually bringing people on stage, real showings and genuinely the only person to do a proper on the stage showcase after a long time. He brought everyone together again and it felt traditional rather than forced out. It wasn’t made out to be a out of this world showcase anyway so I knew what to expect.
It's becoming more and more apparent that I'm not the target audience for these shows. I think I'll just stick to playing the games that get announced with zero fanfare or hype.
And he had the audacity to throw shade at E3 .... LMAO
There are most likely going to several other showings through the year most games are probably not ready until the next year honestly speaking. I understand games are taking a longer time to develop so i’m okay with knowing there’s still something for everyone.
Did Sony’s abject showcase (is that even the correct word?) make it an easy job for this gig? I mean it wasn’t wonderful but it was better than that!
For me very good. Yes there was a lot of mobile stuff but Final Gantasy 7 alone was more exciting than most of the recent PS showcase if i'm completely honest. And its baffling that Sony let Geoff have the release date for Spiderman, but whatevs.
Sonic looked fantastic and i was intrigued by the Prince of Persia game. Alan Wake looked good too from what i saw (although the feed did give out on YouTube).
And i'll always take Like a Dragon which looks like a lot of fun as always
This was a pretty nice set of games. Shouldn't these be summer games though?
Persona 3 remake and Persona 5 Tactics just leaked on Atlus' Instagram btw. Launching on Gamepass it seems with no mention of other platforms yet, so i guess we get the fun waiting game on an official announcement like with P4 Golden again
Too long for a stream. It might be good if it was 70 minutes or something.
FFVII Rebirth gameplay for the win . Definitely more exciting for me than that PS Showcase…
Wished we’d seen some Death Stranding 2 though!
Mixed bag. It started well but fizzled out somewhat. There were less games I was interested in than the PS Showcase… and yet due to much lower expectations, enjoyed this one more. Was also slightly better formatted with more gameplay. But a couple of bigger hits at the end would have elevated it.
Still 8 games I am interested in, and another 10 to keep an eye on is always a win
Honestly don’t see how this show was any better than Sony’s. Nothing shown was on the level of Dragon’s Dogma 2 unless you’re a huge FF fan.
I see both shows as equal in terms of quality games. The Sony show just had way more hype around it so it gave a worse impression.
I literally fell asleep watching it.
Usual game fest stuff : Some really good stuff with plenty of filler.
I enjoyed the Sony show, and I enjoyed this. For me theres at least 20 games I want to play between the shows, and that keeps me enthused and excited.
I was dissapointed DS2 didnt make an appearance, but that was my expectation, not the shows fault.
Much as I admire Mr Cage's acting, he really should have picked a better partner - at least one that could do a scan capture to look like him. That title was jankiest looking in the show!
Pleased to see Rebirth, my heart soared a little to see those characters again.
Not bad Geoff, thanks!
This event has been overhyped for years. Yes sometimes they have some exclusive material or release dates, but the other 90% of the show is always boring and way too much about sponsors.
I enjoyed the show and great to see the audience there. Maybe next time have some snippets from audience members with their stories.
I thought it was good. The annnouncements were largely ok, but the format of the show was welcome and authentic in comparison to Sony’s showcase. Day of the Devs was pretty solid and Devolver’s showcase was typically baffling but very much Devolver as well.
Very good show, far better than Sony's was.
They even presented the date for Spider-Man 2, something Sony couldn't even bother to include in it's very own showcase... I mean wth? Don't tell me they weren't ready to announce the date, 'cause it was just 2 weeks ago... They either didn't have anything else exclusive to bring to SGF, which presents a very serious problem for us PS console owners... or they're trying very hard to get people to dislike the PS Showcase by shooting it's knee caps off...
Better than Sony's, I think, but only just marginally. My expectations were practically beneath the floorboards so I suppose that might be why I was a little more receptive to this showing.
Just caught up this morning. Was good for me. A bit more in this one that interested me than the PS showcase I think
Although overall I still don't like the direction gaming is going in. Luckily there are still hundreds, if not thousands, of games from the past 4 or 5 decades that I still need to find time to dive into so it's not a big problem
Came away with plenty of games I'm looking forward to, so no complaints from me. I thought the length/pacing was about right, sprinkling some of the smaller announcements in between the heavier hitters.
Was a pretty terrible show, albeit far better than Sony's. Yet lets not pretend like those mobile games and gaas titles which made up half or More of the show, were good.
There was so Little to show that it had to be padded out with that garbage, Nicolas cage, TV show ads and friggin Samsung ads. Half those games won't even be reviewed, because anything that comes from some of those devs isn't even taken seriously because of the predatory mechanics even though they've been putting out games for decades. It's clear the industry hasn't gotten the memo on gaas, and it will likely be this entire generation before it's clear. Most of these games fail because gamers don't want them and most devs don't want to make them.
Arkane Austin no longer exists as it had prior to redfall, having lost 70%, of its staff being forced to make that garbage ...
How many Sony Studio dev teams are feeling that same pressure, and how many will quietly jump ship before the message is received.
It's insane to step back and see just how many live service focused Co op/extraction/ Sci fi or fantasy battle nonsense are in development. The sheer number alone guarantee most will fail do to the coming saturation to a market in which many released are failing already.
Such a waste.
The show and presentation were actually good, I think it's defintely the best Geoff has done as a presentation. But the games were iffy. I few good reveals, and a whole lot of "Big F2P shooter NeW SeAsoN!"
I still like the format, even with Geoff being Geoff, more than the "Directs" by miles. But it still feels like the Holy Roman Empire as compared to the real Roman Empire when compared to E3. It may be big, and powerful in relative terms, but it's still a poor imitation in the shadow of the faded real event. E3 events were put on by the mfrs to showcase their offerings in the best possible light (or in the case of Ubisoft, questionable cringe.) This event makes it hard to separate what content is included because an mfr wanted to display it and what's there as a paid ad. Plus movie trailers, and actual commercials.
It's a "better than nothing" enjoyable half-step, much better than Directs since it actually ads context that's lacking entirely in Directs, but it's still not approaching filling the void left by E3.
@get2sammyb Can we have a separate poll for the title picture, because that definitely gets an "excellent" 9/10, it's missing the DoorDash connection.
Rebirth being there automatically makes it better than Sony's showing. And, you know, we actually saw gameplay!
But the show as a whole didn't set me on fire.
Still a pale shadow compared to Ninty/Sony's better E3 presentations and Directs.
@Ralizah The other day I re-watched parts of Sony 2014 and 2015 to confirm the year of FF7R reveal in a conversation here. Watching those old shows at those heights..... it reminded me that it wasn't just rose tinted glasses, those shows were pure dynamite. I was more hyped for PS4 games that released or I've already played 7 years ago after watching it than the recent directs and presentations have hyped me for anything coming in the future.
I thought that the Sony showcase was pretty good and was miles better than whatever this was. Literally 0 games from the entire show I'm hyped for. Of course there were games that looked pretty good that I'll probably buy like Spiderman 2 and FF7 Remake part 2, but about 70% of the show was just new trailers for games that already got announced recently (or in some cases literally just showing the same announcement trailers).
Unless you're a massive Spiderman or Final Fantsay fan then I don't really see what was exciting in this showcase in the slightest.
Genuinely might be the worst gaming showcase I've ever watched (I only started watching showcases in 2020 so there may be some dreadful ones from years ago I've never watched)
I don’t think the “big surprises/reveals” that were boasted about beforehand by him were actually that big. Like nothing was Hades 2 level of shock and excitement from last year’s game awards.
They put some release dates on things I want which is nice.
